We have always thought Brooklyn was so lucky, she has great teeth. They have always been straight and no gaps.
When we moved here we took Brooklyn to the dentist for the first time. They told us that we should be saving up for braces for her. Kids are supposed to have gaps. Their grown up teeth take up much more space than these baby teeth and since her teeth are already touching, her grown up teeth with be super tight and crowded.
So yes she has pretty teeth, but it's going to sure cost us in the future!
Last week Brooklyn had her check up with the dentist and had her first x-rays. They found some small dark spots between her molars and needed to fill one. They were making such a big deal out of it (which it is). I did not know that you keep your molars until about 11. I thought when you started loosing your teeth that's when you lost them all. So they want to fill this one and then we have to be super good at flossing!
I will admit that I cried a couple times between that appt and Monday when she actually had the cavity filled. I felt like the worst mother. I'm supposed to protect my babies, and I knew what was going to happen. The dentist told me this was not my fault! She said it's just unfortunate that she has just a tight mouth. But if we wanted to dip the floss in mouth wash we probably wont need to fill any others because they are so tiny!
I talked to Brooklyn about the procedure on Sunday. She got nervous and the first thing she asked was what tools they will use?! I told about the water and the sucker thing, cause she already knows about those. But I would laugh and tell her that, "I don't know I'm not a dentist. I'm just your mom!" For some reason she thought it was so funny and would laugh.
Monday I was way more nervous than Brooklyn. When they laid her in the chair they put a thing over her nose to give her some gas to help her relax and just watch the tv. Brooklyn told them she doesn't lay down, she sits and watches tv. And asked for them to put the chair up :) They had told me that kids do better without the parents in the room. She wanted me to stay so once the dentist came in I told Brooklyn I was going to find the bathroom and then never came back. I sat on a bench right out the door and got to watch the whole time. She was so giggly and sweet. At the end she asked the assistant, "Can you do me a favor?" They thought it was the cutest thing. She told her of course. "Can you get my mom?" I walked in and told her sorry I got lost and she was doing great. She smiled and then told me to leave, she even shooed me out with her hand. Guess she just wanted to know I was still there.
Brooklyn was an excellent patient. I was so proud of her!
After they were done they were talking to me and Brooklyn very concerned about her face. They showed her a couple times that her face looked exactly the same and it just felt weird because they put her tooth to sleep. In the car she got really emotional. She didn't want anyone to see her. She didn't want daddy to see her face. We went to get soup and she cried because everyone in the restaurant was going to stare at her :(
She had a birthday party to go to but refused to stay, so we went to drop the present off and the mom came and talked to Brooklyn and she agreed to stay. I'm so glad she did. She had lots of fun and by the time it was over the numbness was gone.
She was picking out a prize and I tried to get a picture. She said don't show daddy my face.
A friend watched Avery so I could concentrate on Brooklyn. When I went to pick her up, they said she fell asleep on their couch shortly after leaving her. Crazy girl.
