Surfside Beach Vacation

We were SO busy playing at the beach on our vacation that we didn't have time to update the blog!

Our vacation started on July 4th driving down to Surfside Beach.  Surfside is near Freeport, about 40 miles west of Galveston.  It is a small town on the Gulf with lots of pastel colored beach houses up and down the coast.
This year we vacationed with one of my best friends (and a fellow teacher), Kelly and her daughter Olivia.  Her husband Clement was unable to get away from work, we sure missed him!

We rented the same house as last year, it's a cute 2 story home that can sleep up to 10 people if you want.  It has 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a full kitchen, living and dining areas.

We stopped at Wal-Mart and picked up our groceries for the week.  We had already planned out our meals for the week so a quick run through and we were done!
We arrived at the house about 12:00pm and unpacked the cars.  We were in our swimsuits and on the beach by 1:00pm!

The water was perfect and the temperature just right!  We spent the next 2 days just playing in the water, building sand castles, boogie boarding, and relaxing on the beach.
On Thursday we drove over the toll bridge into Galveston, about a 30 minute drive, to go to Moody Gardens and eat seafood!  Here are some pics I snapped on my phone as we drove across the bridge.

Galveston sure has changed since the last time I was there!  I did see things that I remember from all the trips I went on with my grandparents!  It was fun to think back to those times.
Moody Gardens has grown and changed as well!

We only visited the Aquarium because having two 4 year olds we knew they wouldn't want to do too much walking!  Logan and Olivia really enjoyed the Aquarium, it is so well layed out and they have SO many animals to see!  Logan's favorite was doing the Shark Hunt.  He had a "passport" and had to find all the different kinds of sharks they had and get a stamp for each one!  Here he is stamping his "passport"!

We ended our visit to Galveston with lunch at Landry's, where else!  I LOVE seafood, but when I go to the coast HAVE to have plain, peel and eat boiled shrimp!  Yummo!

Friday and Saturday it was back to the beach!  I love that our vacation was so "uneventful" and we just did what we wanted, when we wanted!  There was no schedule, and we could go back to the house at any time because all that separated the house from the beach was this short bridge.....

Here are a few pics of our fun at the beach......

Sunday we packed up and headed home.  We had an AMAZING time on our vacation and I am so glad I got to spend time with my bestie Kelly and that our kiddos played so well together.  We were not ready to leave but we enjoyed every minute of our time there!

On the way home we stopped at The Aquarium Downtown, in Houston.  It is a restaurant that has an aquarium in the center and the tables surround it.  You get to eat and watch the fish swim by!  Logan loved it.  They also had some carnival type rides so we did the carousel, Shark Train, and Ferris Wheel!

My mom gave Logan spending money for the trip.  He is so careful about his choices.....this is what he chose to buy.....a 6ft long stuffed snake and a bag of sea creatures!!  What a goof ball!!!

A great end to an amazing vacation......looking forward to our family vacation next year.......

Here we go again...........

So, I kind of fell off the Blogging bandwagon, I apologize.  I'm back and am scheduling time to update at least once a week.  It's summer break so I know I will have time for the next month and a half.  After that, well........

My next few posts will be all about Logan and what he has been up to.  He turned 4 in May, I can't believe it!  He is Mr. Independent and VERY strong willed!!  He definitely keeps us on our toes!!

Well, I have to go for now.  I have been teaching Summer School......tomorrow is the last day...so I have to get up early one more time.

I will get started on those Logan posts tomorrow!!
