This year for our summer learning project Susie wanted to learn about composers and Braden wanted to learn about cultures so we just combined the two. We made a powerpoint with information on the countries and a Spotify playlist with songs by the composers we wanted to learn.
We painted Michelangelo replicas and listened to Vivaldi for Italy and got some gelato at Harmons.
Livy was visiting when we learned about Peru. We made chicken with aji armarillo sauce.
For Japan we got sushi (which all the kids hated except Henry) and for India we made naan bread.
For Russia we invited my friend Kaylee to come over and tell us about Russia. She served her mission there. She brought Russian money and books and souvenirs she brought home. We made blini (Russian pancakes).
Paul showed us his mission pictures for Germany and we made delicious homemade pretzels 😍.
Here are some other things we've been up to this summer!
Swim lessons!
Snow cones!
Pickleball!
Susie went to her first year of girls camp. She loved it so much. I had a few little surprises packed in her suitcase. It was a long 5 days at home without her! I'm so glad she has good friends and had a great experience.
We love celebrating Syracuse Heritage days every summer. The parade and the firework show is the best. We usually get together with the Johnsons for a BBQ and swimming. Their backyard is great for viewing fireworks.
Henry moved out of his crib into a big boy bed. He's on a bottom bunk in the boys' room. We got rid of the crib that all 5 kids have slept in! It was kind of sad. 😢
I got to see a broadway production of Les Miserables that came to Salt Lake. Tiffany and Morgan came with me. It was amazing.
Susie and her friend Milly held a few "kids camps." The one at our house was science themed. They charge $5 a kid and have snacks and activities and crafts. They are so cute.
Susie also had a piano recital. She did a phenomenal job, I was so proud of her!
Braden and Timmy won a coloring contest at Smiths!
We went to the Clark planetarium with Chantè and her boys.
We had a fun celebration for our anniversary in July. Paul and I woke up early and went hiking and to breakfast. Then we took the kids to get to slushes and to the splash park.
Braden was the first to make the 3,000 page reading goal. He was king for the day! No chores, soda, unlimited video games (yikes). When Susie and I had our queen for the day celebration we went to Crown Burgers (because queens wear crowns 😂) and shopping!
Hiking with the kids!
We went to Bear Lake a few days before school started for one last hurrah. We rented a large trampoline and had a blast.
For the last day of summer we tallied our pages. Susie was the winner of the summer reading race with 4,345 pages! We had back to school haircuts, presents, and a pizza and movie picnic. Susie was pretty nervous for her first day. I can't believe she is in Junior High. We had a great summer and I was sad to see them go back. It went by too fast!
