Peach Green Tea

It's official (nearly): I'm a college graduate. Sunday afternoon, I walk on a stage and take a diploma in what could be my final act as a student. Surreal? I'm not sure. It hasn't really set in yet, but I figure it might. It might not either.

Side note: If you want to give me a job, or know someone who would, here's an example of my capabilities. It's my newest project for one of my classes. Enjoy.

Great Expectations

I'm learning how to silk screen. It's time to start making my own t-shirts, which will eventually become cheaper than me buying new ones. Also, I can make some for little Eli.

Cotton Teeth

A transcription of a transcription of the most eventful train experience I've had in a long time:

*Note that all comments were originally text messages from me*

- "This could take forever."

- "...This lady is yelling so hard at her husband. So hard."

- " He just wanted to stop walking, and she kept yelling at him 'Come on Carlos! Let's get to where we're going!' Then she kept talking about him just drinking his bottle and shutting up. So confused."

- "Then there are just the two loudest girls ever. One just yelled out loud about how she hates Chinatown and Chinese people."

- "Now she's talking about going to NYC, but she has to get a job in Wrigley first to pay for the $48 plane ticket. Said she'd say 'Look at my titties. Miller, or Bud?'"

- "I am just dumbfounded by what is going on around me."

- "I'm so uncomfortable. He laugh sounds like Fran Drescher."

- "Telling her friend about how she slept with a couple of dudes on St. Patty's Day."

- "Now reiterating her hatred of the Chinese."

- "Finally at Damen."

Confused? So was I.

Human Racing

One music recommendation tonight, and a link. That's all I've got in me.

If you haven't ever, listen to St. Vincent.  Good stuff.

I finally finished the Harley project. It is called, well, "Harley."

If you don't have a Vimeo account, get one. There's a lot of great stuff on there, and you can help me out by "liking" my video. You can do it on YouTube as well. Just search for the username "brianlamarhorne."

Okay, I lied. Lots of links tonight. I'm done promoting myself. Enjoy the video. Enjoy your day. Enjoy your week.

Back with more tomorrow.

Untitled Title

Working on cutting together a project I created for myself. It's nice to take a break from schoolwork and do something that you actually want to do for once. No being forced into anything this time.

Myriad Pro

I've begun shooting a new short film. There is no aim for the project, other than for me to kill some time, and try to make something entertaining. It will be cute, I can say that.

5AM Wake Up

Today's mustache: Clay Zavada

Zavada was voted by the American Mustache Institute as the recipient of the 2009 Robert Goulet Mustached American of the Year Award. Congratulations, you Rollie Fingers lookalike, you.

Spring break is here. Time to get cracking on some new website design ideas. I'd like to have a new site up by the end of the week. Don't know if it will happen, but stay tuned, and keep checking brianhorne.net to see if there's a new, unified, simplified look.

Thoughts And Theories From The Road

Copied and pasted from a note I wrote on Facebook, while in the passenger's seat of my car:

As Bryanne and I make our slow creep back to Chicago via car, we have begun to make various observations about the roadgoing public's driving habits. These observations may (or may not) surprise you. Here are a few (and forgive my spelling, this is from the passenger's seat via an iPhone):

1) People brake unnecessarily. Why do they brake? Based on our findings, it is generally due to bridges, overhead signs, or an empty lane in front of them. If there's no good reason to slow down, you can bet other drivers will.

2) People are afraid to merge, plain and simple. They are just terrified of moving out of their lane (which is coming to an end) until the last second possible. Consequently, the timid drivers around them are scared witless, and begin to slow down.

3) The left lane is the new right lane. This wouldn't normally be an issue, but due to the aforementioned theory that people cannot merge, both lanes in any given four lane hlghway (I say four lane, meaning two and two) are jammed up, forcing real drivers to slow.

4) People slow down when a police officer has someone pulled over already...on the opposite side of the road. Yes, I promise that unless you are shooting a gun as you drive by, the cop will not come after you. People of Alabama, you are the worst about this.

5) Smoking while driving requires that you ride the brake while accelerating. This has happened multiple times in front of me today.

6) We are better drivers than anyone else on the road.

For the record, this is all coming from the passenger's seat. Don't text while driving. I can make that number seven. Just don't.

Feel free to add more, and remember, you just aren't as good at this thing as we are. You are a reason this list was made, though you can learn from your mistakes. Safe driving!

The Neighbor Is Singing

I apologize, you new-post hungry followers, for my absence in the blog world the past couple of days. School really picked up, and I found myself absolutely swamped with work. It's the least wonderful time of the year.

Today's mustache: Patrick Scannell

What should you listen to as you get things done today? Beach House. More specifically, their new album, Teen Dream. It will make you wish it were summer time, and if you stand in front of the heater while it's going, maybe you'll be fooled into thinking it is. But, as The Who said, you "...won't get fooled again..." after that, so enjoy it while it lasts. Looks like global warming is here to stay.

Can't Pull The Wool Over; My Eyes Ain't Blizzurred

Today's mustache: Ambrose Everett Burnside

Need I say more?

Team USA defeated Canada in preliminary round hockey tonight, 5-3, at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics (I'm hoping I can come back to this sometime and reminisce.) Great game by all involved, and I've never seen a harder working group of guys. Now, on to the business at hand.

No new picture right now, but if I finish my motion graphics project, I'll have something later. An update to this post will happen.

For now, pleasant evening, everyone (no one.)

Bad Credit App

Listening to Tinchy Stryder right now. Everything the man touches is gold...at least in my opinion. I will admit you have to definitely be into that style of music to like it, but if you are, it's hard to get much better. I'll leave it at that.

Today's featured mustache: Tom Selleck

What is this? I don't know. (Click the link for a higher-res image, if you so desire.)

Have a good Sunday, everyone. Back with a new post tonight.

Check Back Later

I'll start this one with today's mustache: Logan Copley

Right up there with Stossel, Boggs, and Reynolds. Nice work, Logan!

Headed to school right now. Stick around for a big update tonight.

Dog In The Way

I'm eating dinner. It's 11:34 at night. Tuesday-Thursday is like this every week. This Friday will be too. How nice.

Today's mustache: Wade Boggs

Ever watch Modern Family? (You can thank me later.) You may need this too. Or this.

Have a pleasant evening!

Things That Get In The Way Of Schoolwork

Just to type that title with caps on every word was difficult for me. I know it isn't proper grammar; consequently, so did my fingertips.

Today's mustache: Burt Reynolds

And in the spirit of fun,  I have to post this too. Jeremy Clarkson saying "I'm Burt Reynolds! I'm the Bandit!"

Anyway, it's time to bang out another motion graphics project. This time, I'm just animating a logo, so it's nothing more than a 3-5 second animation. Who knows how it will turn out.

Time to get cracking.

By the way, it's cold here! Someone bring summer, now!

Hall and Oates

I'm listening to Hall and Oates songs right now. There is no mustache in the world I'd prefer have sing me to sleep. John Oates, I salute you.

On another mustache note, Valentine's Day was yesterday. (No, Bryanne does not have a mustache.) But she did get me an autographed picture of John Stossel! That is the start to my wall of famous mustaches. I am going to start a gallery.

In the spirit of the 'stache, I'm going to post up a good picture of a mustache every day. Hopefully this will keep me consistently blogging, and not writing trash blogs either.

Today's honoree is the man himself: John Stossel

In other news, school is finally fully in gear, and I just finished my first Motion Graphics II project, in which I had to take a "historical" poster and transform it into an animation. I took it a step further, and basically created a commercial, solely using the elements I found in the poster (and maybe a little extra typography, but staying true to the poster, of course). I have to say, as simple as it is, I'm fairly proud of it. It's one of the more professional looking things I've done. It took some time, but I'll either post up a link further down in this, or load the video up, if possible. I'm not sure how that'll shake out, but we'll see. I'm attempting it now:

Well, I couldn't get the video to upload, so I'll link you to here. My Vimeo site.

Let me know what you think...all one reader of this blog. Thanks, Rebecca.

That's it for tonight. The blog train has left the station! Onward to tomorrow.

Site Overhaul

I'd say it's about time my website got a nice little overhaul...but I want to redo everything either in Flash or HTML5 (I'm thinking of you, iPhone, iPod Touch, and now [Max]iPad users). I'm hoping I can come up with enough time to create a clever intro, site design, etc to do it up all properly, mostly because I want it to look professional, while at the same time being functional and having a nice sense of style and fun. Also, it probably means that I have to turn over hosting to a third-party, which means shelling out a little more money per month for them to keep my files on a server. I'm not necessarily opposed to this, as I'll have to soon enough anyway, but I'd like to get a good, solid gameplan in order before I go out and do any of this. Maybe I'll hit the drawing board this weekend.

I'm departing for Alabama tomorrow night after I get out of class.

Speaking of class, this semester is going to be brutal. I'll go ahead and say that. These eighteen credit hours I'm taking are going to kill me. Literally, they will make my head fall off.

Glad to see I'm three for three (or four) on posting here in the last few days.

Random Bits

I'm currently sitting in my bedroom watching Top Gear. It's quite loud, though it isn't the show I'll blame for that...it's my neighbors. I know Rebecca can attest to that. Absolutely ridiculous.

In other news, I have, and have had for about two-and-a-half months now, a new girlfriend. Her name is Bryanne. She is awesome. That's all I have to say about that.

My final semester of undergraduate study starts tomorrow, though I only have class Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week. Eighteen credit hours away.

Here we go...
