Not in the mood

Am not looking forward to CNY this year, particularly when it comes to shopping for new clothes. Everything I tries on, make me look like a teapot-short & stout.

Have decided not to get any new clothes. Nevertheless appointments prior to CNY have all been fixed.

17 Jan - Pedicure & Manicure

18 Jan - Gynae visit

19 Jan - Facial

Hope I will feel the festive mood by then.

Dec Holidays 2011

The holidays which all teachers look forward to after one entire year of hard work. Not only is this the time for us to have a good break, it is also the time for us to catch up with our friends and family since we are too busy to do so during the term time. Below are the documentations of the important things which have happened during the holidays.

19 Nov, Saturday
Met up with TXs and XY at Serangoon Nex's Ding Tai Fung for lunch. Most of us had P1 orientation duty that morning and we decided to meet up after that. Xiao Bai was sick and hence she didn't join us for this session. I am glad the TXs and XY are still keeping in contact. This friendship is special as we spent the last 2 years of our NIE days together, braving through all the difficult times together.

23 Nov, Wednesday
Had my detailed scan at Mount Alvernia. Hubby Eric was with me. It was a great and happy feeling knowing the little one's sex (it's a girl!) and she is developing well.

1 Dec, Thursday
Hubby forgotten about his Standard Chartered Race Pack collection and since I am free that day, I decided to go down to MBS to collect his race pack. Whatsapp Xiaoxin to see if she was free that day (since we can only meet when we arranged for our meetup impromptu). We met up and Jerry and herself decided to give me a treat for bringing them together indirectly. So sweet of them.

8-10 Dec, Thursday-Saturday
We had our babymoon at Resort World Sentosa Hard Rock Hotel. Details are over here: http://making-mama-wu.blogspot.com/2011/12/baby-moon-at-sentosa-hard-rock-hotel-8.html
We had a great time there!

11 Dec, Sunday
Met up with Jenny, my Amore workout buddy. It has been a good, long 5 months since I last saw her. We had lunch at Jack's Place and she bought me a pair of pretty earrings to add to my collection.

12 Dec, Monday
Went for my Pedicure and Manicure in preparation for the weddings I have to attend in the following week. I have no idea what colour to try this time. Remembering Xiaoxin's wedding theme, I decided to go with RED!

17-18 Dec, Saturday-Sunday
Was supposed to go for this Business Presentation and Writing Course from 10am-1pm on both days, but due to the stupid train service disruption on 17th, we were stuck at AMK with no taxi available and no bridging service too, we had no choice but to head back to Marsiling since we would definitely not make it in time for the course. On 18th, we decided to get my FIL to drive us there since the train service will be starting only at 10am (in the end it only started operating at 11am) and when the course ended, I am glad the train is back in service and we managed to reach Marsiling in 1 piece.

19 Dec, Monday
Attended Xiaoxin's wedding at Holiday Inn Orchard.

21 Dec, Wednesday
Met up with my sister, Felice for lunch at Dian Xiao Er and had coffee session at Starbucks. Glad that we can always find time to catch up with one another. A dear sister of mine.
Hubby picked me up from Causeway Point in the evening to go for my gynae check-up. According to Dr Lee, baby Keisha is growing well. She was in a crawling position when we saw her that day! :)

22 Dec, Thursday
Met up with the colleagues (actually more than colleagues, they are buddies at work) Shanyi, Jasmine and Xiwen at the very much raved about eating place Antoinette for their dessert. Shanyi and I met up much earlier resulting in reaching the place 1 hour earlier than our meeting time. We decided to have our lunch first.
My seafood Alio Olio - yummy! Except the mussels are overcooked.

The signature "Antoinette". We think it tastes good. I bought 1 for hubby but he thought the taste was ok only.

Strawberry Shortcake - Tastes like Four Leave's standard. LOL
All in all, the food is pretty good. But the price is also on the high side, each of us had to fork out about $50. Will only go there again if there is any special occasion.

23 Dec, Friday
Attended Evelyn's wedding at Novotel Clarke Quay. Met up with Noelle and catch up quite a bit on each other's life. Couldn't stay till the end of the wedding as next day is bro's big day. Was happy to see Evelyn finally married to the guy whom she have dated for 11 years!!! Not an easy feat for the people of today. :)

24 Dec, Saturday
With barely 6 hours of sleep, hubby and I were at my mum's place by 7.30am. After the tea ceremony, we came back home to take a rest before heading to Four Seasons Hotel for their solemnisation and wedding dinner. They are also a couple whom have dated for 10 years! Glad to see them moving onto the next phase of their life.

25 Dec, Sunday
Went to hubby's student place for a Christmas lunch and followed by our very own Christmas gathering. Michelle Guo was so sweet that she gave us each a personalised towel.

The celebration ended at 11pm with a mahjong session (what's new?).

27 Dec, Tuesday
Start of school. Sob. Department Meeting at 9am followed by lunch.

29 Dec, Thursday
Staff Meeting at 8.30am. Yawn. Gotta get back to the usual sleeping habit to turn in at 9pm, if not it will be disastrous when school reopens.

That's all for the time being. Will keep updating this post if there are more things to come till 31 Dec 2011.

Monday, December 19

If there is one thing to be proud of my blog......

it would have to be that it has the honour of being the match-maker for Summer and Jerry!

As the both of you walk into the next phase of your life together, I wish you both happiness!!!

Thursday, December 1

This December......

Finally the holidays have arrived, the only thing that I can complain about is the time is passing way too fast......

December is a month with lots of happenings!!!

We are going for a baby-moon at Sentosa, a business writing workshop to upgrade ourselves, then there are 3 weddings to attend! Xiaoxin's, Evelyn's and my brother's! Not forgetting the meetups with buddies and colleagues!!! Life's great!!!

Something out of the norm

Since I started teaching, sleeping at 9pm is a must if I want to wake up feeling much alive at 5.15am. Even if there are mahjong sessions occasionally,we would be asleep latest by 2am on weekends.

Yesterday night we had a short mahjong session and we ended around 2+am,hubby & I were lying on the bed, feeling hungry. Hubby decided to cook porridge, but after a while, he asked if I would like to go out for dim sum. Being a big fan of har-gau, I couldn't resist the temptation.

Off we went to Geylang's Wan Dou Sek. Not fantastically nice but an outing with hubby on a chilling Friday night, able to fill our tummies and to hit the sack the moment we got home, is a simple bliss in life. ;)

As the title of the blog suggests......

Yes! It's time to take a breather!!

The HCL paper ended at 11.20am today! Phew! The final load off my mind. The paper seems manageable and the question for composition is something they have done before. So well, I hope all goes well for them.

Now, is the time to cross the fingers and wait till 24th Nov, the day when PSLE result is released.

My first PE 2011

I was so sad that I was activated for the PE 2011, but that was before I went for the first briefing.

My SPO and ARO were such nice people, they listened to our suggestions and make changes here and there to make our jobs easier. The rest of the officers were fun-loving and jovial.

I thought that today will be a grueling day, since I need to report at 6am and will not finish until about 8+pm. But because of the lovely people, the 14 hours passed quickly with all the jokes and chit-chatting. Our ARO and SPO were so nice that they packed lunch and dinner for us (they even took our orders, mind you!)

No matter how tough the job is, the people are always the ones that make the difference.

One week since CatCat Mummy is gone......

It has been a week. CatCat is not back yet. I doubt she will be back. :(

Now I am worried Baby will run away so we decided to get Baby a cage.

It's a 3-tier cat cage but I think Baby is still pretty small in size and can't really walk on the metal openings. Baby dare not to go up the ladder either. This morning I decided to let Baby come out for a walk but the moment it's out, it went to its usual spot to poo and pee. I had to bring it back to the cage. Sigh.

Hope everything goes well. :)

Friday, August 12

A new home for baby kitten

Went Pasir Ris with hub as we want to get a cage for baby, but the 3-tier high cage is about my height, and it's too big to fit into the car.

Have to seek help from hub's friend who drives a van. Hope he will be free tmr, and baby will have a new home. :)

Taking care of the kitten

I am now playing the role of catcat mummy and has to feed, play, pacify and clear the poo poo of the kitten.

It can be quite tiring at times.

Not home yet

We are all waiting for catcat mummy to be home. If she is in someone's house, I'm not so worried cos at least she is being cared for and fed. But now I don't even know if she is in some kind of danger.

Luckily baby is adjusting well, she has started eating and is not so hostile towards us anymore. She is still pretty wary towards Eric but she is coping fine with me.

Pray hard that catcat mummy will be back soon. I miss her, so does her baby. :(

A big thank you to the motivators

It started about a month ago when I was given a list of pupils by the music teachers. Together with 10 pupils whom I have chosen/volunteered, we started the practice/training. The number grew and I have about 24 motivators in the end.

There were some unhappy issues throughout the entire month, but I would rather not talk about them.

One thing that I believe strongly in, is one needs to go through some form of hardwork before one sees the results. When I was training these motivators, some ppl commented that I was too harsh, too strict with them, and the motivators felt pressurised.

I admit I am strict & fierce, but that's because I want them to do well during the ND celebration! Don't give me the crap saying "it's more important that the motivators enjoy themselves on that day. They are not performancers."

My question is : how do you expect motivators who are not well-prepared, to have the guts and confidence to do the actions to lead/motivate the rest of the school to sing & get into the celebration mood?

At the end of the celebration, a lot of teachers gave me the pat on my back as well as my pupil motivators, telling us we have done a great job: The actions were great and they were doing them in unison, and most importantly, they managed to get the rest of the school motivated.

But all these won't be possible if I had believed those words and simply ask the motivators to enjoy themselves.

My principle is: I don't and I will not do a f**ked-up/half past six job, especially when it concerns the self-esteem of my pupils.

CatCat and Baby are missing

This is so sad.
Early this morning, Catcat disappeared after her morning feed.
When I came back from my workout, baby is still around. I feared that baby might be hungry since the mum is not around to feed her, i gave her some canned fish and the baby was gone after that !

Oh dear! What's happening?

End of my CT experience

5 weeks are gone, just like that. My trainee has been a good and responsible one and he has really helped me with lots of stuff. Because he took over my P2 class, he took marking loads off from me and with that I really had the time to prepare lessons for my P6 and to prepare for the National Day celebration details as well.

Now I really see the difference in how much we can do for the kids when marking load is being lighten.

A week of workout

Monday: 2 hrs of workout @Amore from 6.30-7.30pm
Tuesday: 40mins run
Wednesday: Dance practice with motivators from 2-5pm
Thursday: 2 hrs of workout @Amore from 3.30-5.30pm
Friday: Dance practice with motivators from 3.30-5pm
Saturday: Workout at house gym-vacuuming, mopping, laundry, cleaning toilets
Sunday: 2 hrs of workout @Amore from 11.30am-1.30pm

Let's see what happen next week!

My first time as a CT (Cooperating Teacher)

Little did I expect I would be one as I didn't receive any news until the day before school reopens. Luckily it is only for the trainee teachers for their TA (Teaching Assistantship) and it will only be for 5 weeks.

I was a little apprehensive initially as I am not sure if I am good enough to be a CT, but well, we all have to take a little challenge at some point of time. Hope everything goes well. :)

Long weekend No.3

This long weekend is a vicious cycle kinda weekend.

Thursday:
MT paper 1. Went for 1 aerobics class in the evening after standardization.

Friday:
School ends officially at 12. Wanted to leave school at 12.30pm sharp but HB last minute got to mark English paper and we had to stay until 1pm. Went back home to rest for a while before meeting up with colleagues at Carousel for high tea buffet. My chummy colleague came over and play Xbox Kinect until 10.30pm.

Saturday:
Felt a tinge of guilt for pigging out on the dessert the day before, happened that HB is going for his tennis session, plus there is going to be a buffet dinner that night at Sakura Charcoal Grilled and Shabu Shabu located at Marina Country Club in celebration of Mother's Day, decided I should just go for a couple of workout classes last minute.

Sunday:
Woke up and go for my usual 2 workout classes. No more pigging out finally.

Monday:
Went for morning class before I went home to see Mama. Had belated Mother's Day dinner with HB's family.

Monday, May 2

Long weekend No.2

This is the 2nd long weekend. Not as happening as the 1st, but well, always good to have a break.

The Saturday begins with HB went for tuition and being alone at home, I danced to my heart's content with Xbox Kinect. HB came home and told me he arranged for a mahjong session. But luck no good for me..haiz.

Sunday began with my usual workout routine at the Amore and HB invited his friends to our house for a session of Xbox kinect.

Today's weather is gloomy from the morning. It seems that The Sun is taking a break on the labour day off in lieu. Went for a session of workout in the morning and I went to my mum's place.

My next long weekend begins on this Friday as our school is one of the polling centre, all pupils will be dismissed at 12noon. Woo~Hoo~

Hopefully, I won't get called to work on polling day since I am only on reserve. Hopefully.

Saturday, April 23

Long weekend No.1

It definitely feels good to have an extended holidays...hohoho...

The long holiday began with 2 workout classes at Amore on Thursday Evening, followed by MJ till 4am. Not good luck though. Haiz......

Woke up at 9.30am to get ready for the TXs & XY gathering. It is always fun catching up with friends and as usual we will pour our sorrows to one another which will follow by the action to count my blessing? haha... Baiyun's baby added joy to our gathering...he is so cute...hope I can have good news soon. We continue with the MJ tournament and ended at around 11.30pm. The house was quite dirty so I told HB that I will do some cleaning before I turn in, HB offered to help to vacuum and mop the floor. I am so fortunate. :)

Saturday morning began at 7.30am, brekkie with HB and he left for tuition and I go for my Amore workout. All the toning and aerobics classes weren't as bad as the stretchfit class I went to. I nearly died in the class for my body is so stiff! LOL...... am currently waiting to see if anymore reply to my mj tournament sequel 3 tonight, but I seriously doubt so la...haha...

Tomorrow we are going to a colleague's house at Sentosa Cove! *Excited*

Thursday, April 21

A good 10 hours of sleep

Left school yesterday at 2.30pm as my colleague swopped the day for oral with me. Since HB is involved in the oral, I went Amore for 1 toning class. HB smsed me after my class to inform me that his tuition has been cancelled. He 'tabao' dinner for me and I had an early dinner at 5.30pm.

At 7.15pm, I told HB I am a little tired and want to rest for a while. The next thing I know is I woke up at 5.15am this morning.

SHIOK!!!

Korean BBQ Buffet for dinner

We went for Korean BBQ Buffet dinner yesterday.

The restaurant name is simply Korean BBQ! How nice and easy to remember. The boss is a Korean, maybe this explains why the food is so good.

The location is 16 Cheong Chin Nam Road. If your reaction is "Huh? Where is that?", then you will definitely go "Orrrhhh...." if I say it's opposite of Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. The price is $25.90+ per pax.

All of us felt that the price was reasonable for the quality of food we get.

The side dishes. Taste good, especially the Kim Chi.

Beef Bimbibab. I had wanted to snap a picture of the pretty layout but the waiter poured in the rice before I can do so. Sigh. But anyway, it tastes good with the Kimchi Soup we ordered (no picture of that).

This is just a fraction of what we had ordered. There were a few more plates of these (of different varieties) subsequently.

Some soup which I forgot the name...but it tastes like our yong tau foo.

There were still cold noodles and bean baste soup which we didn't take the picture. This restaurant is definitely worth a try.

The March Holiday

Hmm...Let me recall what happened for the past 1 week.

12 March:
- Went Batam with school colleagues.

13 March:
- Clean the house.
- Workout at Amore.

14 March:
- Went for a full-day course at SCCL. Met some NIE friends. Able to catch up with friends is one reason why I enjoy going for courses. Haha...
- Workout at Amore but not the usual class, so not shiok at all.

15 March:
- Workout at Amore in the morning.
- Dinner at Yunnan Gardens Restaurant.

16 March:
- Tuition in the morning.
- Facial in the noon.
- Met up with Cindy, Emily and Meifeng at Northpoint for dinner. Friends for 12 years *Gasp*

17 March:
- Went back to school for a reading camp.
- Brought my pupil to a competition workshop and with time to spare, I head to PS for a good workout before I pick her up and head home together.

18 March:
- Went cycling at ECP with Hubby and got sunburnt. :( (the amazing feat is we cycled for about 36km.)
- Mahjong at night.

19 March:
- Clean up the house.
- PB is out! and well, my P didn't lie to me. She gave me the grade that she told me. LOL.
- Met Mama (it's so hard to meet my mum cos she has a busier schedule than me...lol)
- Went for Korean BBQ buffet at Cheong Chin Nam Road......nice.
- Mahjong till 3am...*yawn*

20 March:
- Dear Dear went hiking at Bukit Timah, but he went downstairs to buy breakfast for me first. :)
- Workout at Amore.
- Slack.

21 March:
- We are going for a treasure hunt competition organised by MOE. *Excited*

The best part is, I have not done a single thing that I am supposed to do.....
- Setting of SA1 paper : not done.
- Preparation of ppt slides for school sharing : not done.
Haha...

My big 3-0

24th Feb 2011, 7.45pm: Hubby came back home with a cake from Awfully Chocolate. He said, "we will bring the cake to school tomorrow and celebrate with the rest of the staff."

25th Feb 2011, 6.00am: Hubby sang birthday song to me as he enter the room while I was at my dressing table getting ready for school.

25th Feb 2011, 6.20am: We arrived at Chong Pang Market for breakfast. He bought a sunflower for me. I told him there is no need, but he insists. :)

Thanks hubby :)

Back to school......with happy memories

It's hard to start the engine after a four day break with loads of fun and makan.

It's a nice feeling to see all if not, most family members once again. We all have aged / matured / in one way or another, the unfamiliar yet recognizable feeling.

The TXs and XY get to meet up too yesterday at KL's place.

With 4 out of 5 members got married (and 1 getting married in 2012), the conversation we had is about married life and children, other than venting our fustration at work. But well, this is how we can keep things going, you won't survive long enough if you bottled your feelings.

We look forward to the March Holidays, though we will have to be busy with remedials, we are going to Baiyun's place for dumplings! :)

CNY Eve 2011

The school concert was a success! Received positive comments from the teachers that my choir did well. I am so proud of them! :)

The best part was when the alumni came back to visit the teachers. Most of them rushed from school so that they will be in time to meet the teachers.

Went for lunch at McDee AMK with them. It was unplanned. Taking MRT with close to 20 pupils, with some kept shouting Ms Ang! or 洪老师!, everyone in the vicinity knew for sure I am a teacher but it's definitely a good feeling seeing all of them again. It's like a reunion lunch with them.

As we were walking to Yishun Mrt Stn, one auntie even asked, "are these your pupils? You have an interesting group there!"

Really miss them.

Welcome the year of rabbit

It's the first time I am putting up CNY decorations and I am feeling soooo excited. Well, I do help my mum previously, but it is a totally different feeling altogether when you are doing it FOR OUR OWN HOME!!!
A makeover for the fish tank.

Sunday, January 9

Snacking

Heard from Ms Noelle about this lychee flavoured pocky at first. Saw it at one of the confectionery shop near my place and decided to give it a try.

They actually had one in Blueberry flavour but I think I will get a tongue leashing from Hubby if I were to get that too. Next time perhaps.

Saturday, January 8

Happy things

Met up with mama this afternoon for lunch and to buy bakkwa.

We walked around Chinatown and bought some decorative stuff for the house to welcome the year of the rabbit.
the couplets with meaningful words.

God of Fortune: Huat arh!
There was a real big statue of God of Fortune at the place we bought these decorations and there are 4 digits pasted on the statue. Told mama that we should buy 4D, she agreed and even said that if we really strike it big, we will come back and buy more decorations.
This set of number really came out in today's 4D!!!! But only in consolation prize and not in the same permutation as the number somemore. Sigh.

Mama supposed to come to my place to look at the photos of my wedding day, but she needs to go singing so next week perhaps. :)

Reached home at around 5pm to wait for dear dear to come home from tuition. Received a sms from my sec sch friend whose niece happened to be studying in the school I am teaching in. She was punished by another teacher the other day for not completing her homework.

She was made to stay back and finish up the work. When she came back to the stuff room to hand in her work, I spoke to her and told her to be good.

She smsed her auntie (ie my classmate) subsequently and asked this friend of mine if she can asked me on her behalf to recommend some assessment books for her.

The family jumped with joy for all along, she has been pretty rebellious and has not once taken the initiative of wanting to learn.

I am happy not because I changed the girl. I am happy because I feel that I have touched someone's life.

I was sharing with my colleague on the first day of school. A lot of people would be dragging their feet to work after a long weekend because it is back to the monotonous work again. But as teachers, the 1st day is always exciting and worth looking forward to. Meeting new classes or even if you are taking back the same class as the previous year, all of them seemed to have grow quite a bit.

I want to thank my friend for sharing her niece's sms with me. Little things like these brightened up my day. :)

Tuesday, January 4

!st day of school

All started well and ended well today, better than I had expected at least.

IP meeting tomorrow.
Meeting Ms Toh for dinner and having her over to my place on Thursday.
Non-IP meeting on Friday followed by a treat by our CL HOD to celebrate the start of work.

Life's good!

How many long weekends do we have in 2011?

http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_517282.html

Well, 5 long weekends from Public holidays + 2 long weekends (Teacher's Day and Children's Day).

That's 7 long weekends we have for 2011. :)

*Starting to do planning*

Welcome 2011

Ya, I know, it's a bit late to post only today. But yesterday hubby's friends came over so there is no time to post.

Resolutions for this year:
- As a teacher, I aim to be more of an encouraging but firm teacher, rather than just to be known as very stern (or rather, fierce).
- As a daughter, I aim to spend more time with my mother and be a better daughter so that she doesn't have to worry so much about me.
- As a wife, [read the other blog].
- Overall, as a person, I aim to be more sensitive with my words and really think through and use the appropriate words before I speak up, so that I would not hurt people unintentionally.

Wishes for this year:
- Career path to be smooth, no big hiccups.
- Family members to be healthy and happy.
- More money to roll in (any methods, from pay increment to tio toto/4D/Big Sweep/etc).
