Being Homeless

Jade and John have been such wonderful hosts! Jake and I moved out of our Provo house on the 16th, Jake left for his new job on the 17th (we'll get to that later), and I've been sleeping at the Lewis house since! I think John said at least three different times, "Stay as long as you need. Family first." What a calming thing to hear... Finally, we found a house in Provo and we'll be all moved in by Friday or Saturday!!!! But thanks John & Jade for a comfy bed and for making my life a little less hectic!

For those of you just tuning in-- go down to the post Oregon Anniversary. It's all backwards from there!
SALT FLATS

So Jake and I have never driven through West Utah. I guess neither of us have ever felt the urge to lose our money in Wendover. Anyway, this place is KRAZY with a capital K! If you've never seen Utah's salt flats in person, you just can't understand the vast weirdness. It's nothing but salt, salt, salt for miles and miles and miles. I'm glad our car didn't decide to break down there. I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it. These pictures can't capture the feelings of being in the middle of a strange nothing.

NORTHERN NEVADA

And then we drove home. Through Nevada. Wow. NOT!

THE REDWOODS

Well I tried to take a good picture of Jake but he was on the phone doing business. Look at this tree!

I caught Jake smelling the tree.

Manly man.

This leafy plant was purple!

CAMPING

We used a tent one night out of the four. The other nights were spent under the stars-- but on an air mattress. I don't think we'll ever go back to sleeping on the ground. Maybe we're getting old.

Night #3 we actually paid for a campsite. I just loved how the light was coming through the trees on this picture. The next morning was the first and only time we showered on the trip.
True love....
OH YEAH, AND THE FOG

Nope, I didn't mess with the colors or anything for this photo. Pretty amazing.

There was an old, picturesque lighthouse in the background but.... you couldn't see it through a lens that day.
THE BEACH

Jake scaring the birds.

Kelp.

I don't know who these people are but it looked like a hallmark moment. I imagine it was a father and son. Cute.

There were some huge rocks just jetting out of the oceanside. It was one more radical thing we witnessed.
SCENERY
Most of these pictures were taken from the passenger seat of a car which is a shame. There is definitely a lot of beautiful scenery to be seen in Oregon, you just have to find a break in the trees! Unlike driving the coast of Hawaii, you don't get to see the ocean the entire time. I even started feeling a little chlostrophobic from all the trees. Is that weird?

Yep, that's a beach waaaay out there inbetween the trees.

Check out all of those logs! And they've got more to spare. I don't know why people get crazy and live in a tree so nobody cuts it down. They'll NEVER run out of trees in OR.

Yep, we're sooo in love.

This right here almost made me feel like I was in Hawaii again.... oh, do I talk about that too much?

I know, this is a crummy photograph on my behalf. This was a gorgeous fresh water lake. It was so blue I had to take a picture.... from the car! There was too much to see for us to stop at every single breathtaking moment.
WILD BERRIES

Everywhere we went we saw berries. They grow wild all over the place! They pretty much take over the fences and create a green wall between the road and someone's property. Nobody even picks these guys! There are just too many to eat!!!!

We found another place on the side of the road our second night and when we woke up in the morning we were staring up at more blackberries. It was awesome!

I think I ate more berries that day than I have in my entire life! YUM.
