Creative Moment

What do you do when you want to do something creative, but you have no ideas of your own and no budget to buy something...?

Search around until you find someone else's creative idea. I don't remember where I saw it, but I had fun making these wall decorations for Lilly's new room. I just used 2 sheets of scrapbook paper (various sizes), made fans, glued them together and taped them on the wall.

Looks pretty good, even if I do say so myself.

(Thanks Chris and Samantha for being inspirations)

Homework

Until today, I have done nothing exciting enough to show off this semester. Most of my classes have been fairly easy (College Algebra the noted exception.). Take the required Photoshop course I am taking right now. Please.

One of this weeks assignments was to create an advertisement for "the local hiking club you belong to" that encourages people to throw away trash (PREACHY!) Because all my assignments this semester have back story. Seriously. Photoshop, Excel, Access, Word... They all start with a paragraph that begins with some variation of "You work for a company...". Apparently we are only capable of learning applied principles. Something that STILL does not apply to math classes.

I digress. This assignment had to feature "a landscape, a sign, one large inanimate object (To be partially buried) and two or more smaller objects. Plus text that advertises the above mentioned club. Well if you are like me, burying a large inanimate object leads to only one conclusion.

Here is (are) my landscape source(s):

Here is my "sign":

My two "smaller" objects:

And Finally, my "Large inanimate object":

**Disclaimer: I would like to note, that as a digital media student, I have a legal right to use any source for any assignment, as long as the assignment is not for profit**

Here is the final result: (Click for Larger)

Here it is without the extra gunk:

In Loving Memory of Charlton Heston, who said I could have his guns now that he has passed on.

(come on people, If I have to explain these jokes they stop being funny.)

"Finished"

Well, with the exception of the asphalt in the street, which due to us not being the City we have to wait until it is 60 degrees outside consistently to finish, we are now done.

Here are the results. Next week we hopefully begin work on getting the lawn back.

Finishing

So it is now warm enough that visions of new concrete danced in our heads. Yes, this week we finished the sewer line project by digging up and capping the old line. As the old line ran under the driveway, this essentially required pulling out the old driveway. Now the old driveway was sagging horribly in the middle (right above the break) and one whole segment had lifted six inches leaving a tire killing precipice just before entering the garage.

Long to short, I was more than happy to part with the old driveway.

This is the old line, capped. We were able to locate the break, and much to our surprise, found that it had been "sealed" with a rubber sleeve and pipe clamps. What does that mean? That means the break occurred DURING THE ORIGINAL CONSTRUCTION. Sealing it with a rubber sleave means you are too lazy to do it right even though a rubber sleeve is by no means legal or secure. The tend to leak over the course of years. This in turn could lead to settling if say, there was a large mass of something heavy like concrete above it. Go figure.

This is Rob. He owns R & D Construction. He also has a good sense of humor and loves to laugh and joke about the ridiculous things you find on remodel work like this. If you need any Excavation work done, R & D is totally the way to go. And I do so swear of my own free will and volition.
If you already have people there replacing your driveway, the gutter, and the section of city sidewalk that they had to demo to redo your sewer, then it should come as no surprise that it is rather affordable to have that sinking front path replaced at the same time. So we did. Tomorrow I will post some after pictures of the 6.55 yards of concrete that were expertly placed today. (Honestly, If I posted EVERYTHING right now, you would just quit reading, wouldn't you.)
