Far be it from me to toot my own horn, but. . .
Well, here goes . . .
Have you ever played with Google Earth? Have you noticed lately that there are all kinds of little buildings that pop up when you zoom into some place? Well, I have. I also noticed that there was a nice attempt at making the Provo temple that was, well, a little
inaccurate. Finally it bothered me enough to do something about it.
Anyone in the world can create a model for Google Earth, Submit it, and then a month later when they get around to checking it out, Someone at Google will decide weather or not it will become the official model for that location at Google Earth. Meaning, anytime anyone anywhere in the world comes to that Location in Google Earth, they will see your model if accepted.
This does pose some concerns for Google. First, The model has to be accurate. Second, it has to be placed accurately. They prefer, though it isn't necessary that it use real photographs for the textures. Additionally, it has to load easily across an internet connection.
I started with my current full detail model of the Provo temple:
Then I simplified it, and Added Photographs.
I just received notice this morning that this model has been accepted by Google! If you have Google Earth, go to BYU, and just north east of it you will see my model. This is the first of 8 (so far) simple Temple models I have uploaded, but 3 of them have not been submitted to Google Earth because they are not current.
For example, here is my Provo Temple Model for Provo at its 1972 Dedication:
Yep. It's the same model with a different colored Spire and no Angel Moroni Statue. I am so Lazy. But, then again, It
is still the same temple, just with a different spire.
Anyway.

See how clever Google is, getting everyone else to do their work for them?
