Lilly Olson and the Chamber of Concepts.

I wish I could magically cause my daughter to be able to understand concepts. There are quite a few concepts she would do well, or rather, I would do well, for her to learn.

Like Productivity. I would love for her to be able to understand that most of the time, people walk to go somewhere or get something done. Therefore, when Daddy comes to a complete stop it is not cause for hollering for the police or screaming for the National Guard. The National Guard doesn't handle that kind of stuff anyway, ask Grandpa.

Mostly, I wish she could learn cause and effect. Like, If you spit the binky out, it will thereby not be in your mouth. Simple right? Or maybe a slightly more complex example:

If your eye hurts, and the reason it hurts is be-cause you just grabbed it; then grabbing it again is not goig to make anyone happy. Least of all you. There is no need for further experimentation. The scientific community will not look down on you for failing to obtain further proofs for this theorem. Trust me on this.

Past Due, updates from Harvard on the Highway

I wanted to post a month and a half ago about last semester and what is coming up this semester and all that. I did not, because there were some concerns over my grades not being what I thought I had earned. My geology professor, who to his credit really knows his stuff, (probably because he was around when it was made) changed grading tactics multiple times through out the semester. By my reckoning I had earned an A, but by his I earned a B+. I emailed him once, and heard nothing. Paige would not let it go at that and hounded him until he admitted there was a grading mistake and he fixed it.

I am now at a 3.83 GPA and am finished with not just English, but Math as well! (I actually liked this last class. More logic and reasoning, less memorization.) Some of you have commented that I get too down on myself when my GPA is under a 3.8. The reason I do this is because I graduated high school with a 2.5. I did not think I was capable of anything better, and so I never went to college after high school. When I finished my first semester with such great grades, it became a personal challenge to keep the GPA up there.

This semester will be rough. I stay home with the Lilly-putian all day, and she does not like me doing things like homework. Or blogging, for that matter. I have two online classes: Intro to Business Management, and Biology. I had a Digital Media Project Management as well. I think it only qualified for the "Digital" because we used computers to access the homework. I already dropped it, as the requirements were almost as overboard as my Biology class, (15 assignments and one test were due at the end of the first 3 weeks of Biology) and the subject matter was feeling more and more over my head. I will have to take it later, but not online next time. It was ridiculous. I am also taking a Digital Audio Essentials class, and an Ethics and Values class. Surprisingly, that last one is mostly my favorite class this semester. I find the others rather boring.

The Lightbulb Whisperer

Miss Lilly has decided that the coolest thing ever in the world are lightbulbs. She loves to stare at the lightbulbs. (She also likes to stare into the dark corners of the nearly complete Pandora, but we try not to focus to much on her dark side.

Lilly has cataloged all kinds of lightbulbs in her little noggin. There are the round ones that are yellow, and the round ones that are clear, and the round ones that are blue. There are the ones that would look like a corkscrew if she knew what a corkscrew was.

There are long lightbulbs too, at least three times as long as Lilly. Once, she was sitting in her "rule the world mobile throne" that sits around daddy's neck and guess what? There was a lightbulb in the fridge when daddy opened it. She got real excited. Wonder of wonders what will the human species think of next?

Confession

I love my daughter, and try to help her to be comfortable, BUT...

I secretly laugh at her when she has a Moro reflex. Babies really are born with the terror of falling - any time she is naked and unrestrained, terror sets in. Her arms flail outward (wide spread) and her eyes bug out like a cartoon character. All combine to create a look of sheer panic or terror. I know I should be distraught at her distress, but I can't help it. It's funny!

What are the criteria for membership in the "Mom Club?' I mean, I have so much more to go to be in danger of being kicked out, but is this the beginning of a slippery slope?
