Board Stiff

James emailed us last weekend to ask if we were in town this weekend and if there was room in the Olson Bed and Breakfast; he was in the mood to snowboard. I am SO glad that he was able to come out for a visit. It was fantastic to see him.

He was kind enough to offer to take me with him. I had only been snowboarding once, two years ago, so the embarrassment factor was pretty high on this one. Still, what I would not do for some brother-sister time? I was wonderfully surprised at how much fun I had. James is patient and a good teacher/companion. I had some muscle memory return and did not make too much of a fool out of myself. Bonus: no broken bones. My only regret: no sunscreen. I am tired and sore, but so glad that I decided to go and not stay home and miss out on all the fun.

Thanks James!

Surprise

Brian spent a lot of time this week weeding and trying to rid our lawn of snow mold.* My turn came around today; first weeding of the year is novel and fun. (Of course, I will be not so happy to do it in August.)

Unfortunately, the weeds that I left in November did not have the decency to die over the winter, so I have lots of friends to find.

Anyway, as I was weeding, I found a wonderful surprise to greet me:

*Apparently the huge pink patches on our lawn are due to snow pack/mold growing on the ground. Raking the lawn is supposed to help it dry out and fix the problem. We're crossing our fingers.

2009 Newbery

This year's nominee is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.
"Hear this tragic tale: a sleeping family, a talented murderer, and an adventurous toddler—orphaned, but not assassinated. Small and alone, by accident and luck he escapes the scene of the crime and climbs a grassy hill to safety. At the top of the hill the boy finds a fence, and on the other side, a dark, quiet place."

We're big fans (especially of Good Omens). I am happy that I can recommend this one; some previous winners I can't see handing to any child.

Read it if you get a chance.

1 year, 1 month

More than a whole year of wedded bliss...
Okay, not bliss, but fun! Lots of good and a little bad.

Could not ask for more than this perfect fit for the both of us.

Just thought I would give you the chance to count along with us...feel free to gloat since most of you will always have us beat in the time department.

Clarification

I would like to clarify what Paige has posted. I post nothing not because of a lack of home improvement projects. I have published nothing because of my English class. for 2 months now I have been having to write, multiple times a week, on subjects that I don't choose. In addition to that, I have to write several papers, thesis bibliography and all, on subjects that have to be so narrowed down and focused that I lose all interest in them. They become no longer fun for me when I can't examine all the interactions of all the interesting little details. I have to focus on one little detail, and that one alone invariably bores me.

I don't post because my English class has caused writing to be ceased to be fun. What good is writing without enthusiasm.

In other related news, I'm in the top of my Math class, and I'm actually starting to enjoy parts of it.

Still Alive

Yep.

Still here. (sigh)

And kicking. (sometimes a feeble twitch)

We are on a home improvement moratorium, so what do we post?

Nothing.

Just thought I'd share.
