An Unexpected Development

I can hardly believe it. After six months of refusing a binky, Boston suddenly did a total 180 and decided that he LOVES his binky. It's a beautiful thing! I was going through a container of all of his old binkies trying to find his teething tablets, when he grabbed one and went to town. It's amazing....when he gets fussy all I have to do is pop it in and we're both happy. Life is good!

A little privacy, please...

Wow...what a day! Boston has had a few bouts of nausea lately and the doctor thinks that it's an allergic reaction to something he is eating. I thought I had narrowed it down to bananas or rice cereal. Last Monday I gave him some bananas to test the waters and sure enough, out came his dinner. Voila! I thought we had it figured out. This morning before church I decided to give him a little rice cereal, since we'd finally figured out that bananas were the culprit. Everything went great...we made it through sacrament and were packing up to go when out of nowhere, he lost everything...and then some. Yuck!!! I was covered, Boston was covered, Brett was covered, and it even covered two rows (thank goodness they were empty)! I guess Boston decided that if he was going to do it, he may as well do it well. Oh my!!! We're just grateful it didn't happen during the middle of sacrament. I think the Bishop would have had mercy and ended the meeting early. Brett was a trooper and cleaned it up, while I took Boston home to clean him. Good news, though....for the rest of the day he's been a happy, healthy boy.

Here's a pic of him taking his bath. It was too funny...when I grabbed the camera he hurried and grabbed the yogurt container (a.k.a. one of his water toys) and discreetly covered himself. Come on, Mom...a little privacy, please!!!

Mmmm...peas!

Believe it or not, peas used to be Boston's absolute favorite food to eat. They look terrible all blended up, but he loved them. We've been slacking on veggies while we've tried to introduce new foods to him, but on Friday I decided to give them another try. My camera died right at the end, but you can see the beginning of his reaction. What a hoot!!! He's a trooper...he still smiles in between gagging.

P.S. Yes, he is wearing my shirt. He was eating a biter biscuit before...man, those things are messy! I figured a bib just wouldn't fit the bill.

He LOVES his biter biscuits!!! Thanks, Grandama Val!

Here he is laughing at one of my jokes. I'm pretty hilarious! Well, at least to a 6 month old....not sure what that says about me! Ha ha :)

One handsome boy!!!

How can you look at a face like this and not just want to kiss it?!!

Nature vs. Nurture

I took several of classes in college that discussed the debate of nature vs. nurture. Well, I've run some tests and found that when it comes to football, nature takes the cake. This afternoon I laid Boston down on the carpet, gave him his stuffed giraffe (which he absolutely loves) and decided to see how long he could entertain himself before he got fussy. Meanwhile, Brett was watching football on the TV. As soon as I laid Boston down, he turned his head to the TV and sat there mesmerized for about ten minutes...at which time I decided that was enough TV and gave up my experiment. Amazing! I don't think anything else has held his attention for that long.

He also LOVES the computer. I've tried to let him type, but really he just wants to eat it! :)

Here's a random pic. Brett would smile until the first flash went off and then pull a funny face just in time for the second flash, when the camera took the picture. To get back at him, I'm posting it on our blog! :)

I've been tagged!

I was tagged by Danielle on her blog to tell about my man, so here goes…

What's his name? Brett Aaron Hampton

How long have you been together? 5 Years this month…married almost 4.

How long did you date? We dated for about a year before we were marries, but we’ve known each other for almost 10…wow!!!

How old is he? 26….for awhile he thought he was 25 and was devastated when I reminded him he was 26, but he got over it pretty quickly. :)

Who eats more? Definitely me! Brett sometimes forgets to eat and when he really puts his mind to it he can eat more than me at one meal, but in general, I consume way more food than he does!

Who said 'I love you' first? Brett…he’s the gutsy one.

Who is taller? He is. I was always paranoid about being taller than the guy I was dating, so on our first date I wore my tallest boots and had my mom check to see if he was still taller than me. Luckily, he passed the first test! :)

Who sings better? Neither of us are spectacular, but Brett is definitely better than I am.

Who is smarter? I’ve got the brains for math, but I have to admit that Brett takes the cake on the rest. Just look at his blog, “Cognitive Dissonance”…I don’t even know what that means!

Who does the laundry? Me. Brett has offered, but I’m too anal about my laundry (some pants need to be dried in the dryer, some need to be stretched and hung to dry, some need to be hung but not stretched, etc.) It’s easier for me to do it than to write a manual for him.

Who does the dishes? Definitely me. Once Brett tried, but I came in to see him turning away from the sink and gagging. He wasn’t even doing it to be funny, either. He really cannot stand to touch a dish after it’s been in the sink. I guess we all have our quirks!

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Brett, if you are looking at the bed.

Who pays the bills? Brett

Who mows the lawn? This is embarrassing….my mother-in-law. If anyone knows Val, you know that she is a saint! Brett was frustrated because he was so busy with school last semester and our yard is so huge that it would take him a couple of hours each time he did it. I was super pregnant and not much help, so Val just started showing up to do it for us. One time Brett refused to let her use our lawn mower because he felt bad she was doing all that work, so she brought her own! His sisters helped out, too. We were spoiled!!!

Who cooks dinner? It used to be me, but when I was pregnant it made me sick, so I quit cooking. I’m trying to work my way back into it, but when I fall short, Lynn Wilson is our man! Brett has survived off of burritos, corn dogs and bagels.

Who drives when you are together? Brett drives, but I always offer helpful suggestions and constructive criticism.

Who is more stubborn? We’re both pretty stubborn about different things.

Who kissed who first? Brett kissed me first…once again, he’s the gutsy one.

Who asked who out first? He asked me.

Who proposed? Brett surprised me with the proposal…whoohoo!

Who is more sensitive? Definitely me. Brett refuses to watch chick-flicks with me because inevitably I will end up crying.

Who has more friends? It’s probably sixes, although we generally hang out with his friends more often.

Who has more siblings? Brett has one more than I do.

Who wears the pants in the family? We’re pretty equal.

The Newest Development

Three hours of church can be rough on a 6 month old, so either Brett or I spend most of sacrament meeting standing just outside the chapel doors to keep Boston pacified. He loves the hymns, though, so we try to snag a seat during those moments. Yesterday, I drew the short straw so I spent most of Sacrament meeting in the hall with Boston. We snuck back into our seats for the hymn and Boston made it halfway through the closing prayer before he started to cry out. Desperate, I stuck my knuckle (a.k.a. Boston's favorite chew toy) in his mouth to try to keep him quiet. To my surprise, I felt something hard in there. That's right....Boston has his first tooth! He is so proud of his new toy! He loves to poke it with his finger and it's hilarious to watch him try to move his lips and tongue over it. He thinks it's the coolest! I'm pretty excited, too, imagining the day when cheerios or graham crackers can replace the beloved spot of Mom's knuckle as his favorite thing to chew on! Whoohoo!!!

Now, for some of his most recent photogenic moments...

Here is Boston all decked out in his Nebraska gear. Go Huskers!!!

Here is Boston lying on our brand new carpet in the basement (thank you, Grandpa Don!!!!). He loves it! Every time he lays down he gets so excited and starts giggling and kicking his legs. This picture cracks me up. I laid him down, then went to hurry and change the laundry. I was gone all of ten seconds, but when I got back, Chief had snuck his way down to the basement and Boston rolled over on his tummy to have a staring contest. I really think Boston was winning. He absolutely loves Chief, and the feeling is mutual. Chief is so desperate for attention that he doesn't even mind it when Boston pulls his ear or pokes him in the eye.

The Quarantine

So here is my lame excuse for not posting for so long....we've been quarantined. Starting on New Year's Day, Boston came down with the flu, which turned into a cold, which turned into pink eye...all of this within 24 hours. When we took him to the doc, he was diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection (I think that's a fancy name for a cold), pink eye and an ear infection. The amazing thing is, he didn't even cry. What a trooper!!! The next morning, Dad came down with the flu, then mom followed and ended up with a sinus infection. Oh my!!! What a way to ring in the new year! Brett and I had dibs on the leftovers of Boston's amoxicillin, but luckily I got some of my own so it won't end up starting any wars. :) Brett has been amazing, though, and pretty much taken over taking care of Boston while I've been knocked out for the past few days (It took me a few days to come to terms with the fact that I couldn't get over it without antibiotics). Boston and I are soooooooo grateful for him!

Here's a pic of Boston the first day after we visited the doc. The doctor told me to give him yogurt every time he took the amoxicillin, and Boston doesn't really love yogurt, so I decided to combine it with something he does love...the bathtub. It cracked me up because the poor guy had these big puffy red eyes and looked so sick, but he was so happy...I just couldn't resist taking a picture.

Merry Christmas!!!

I know, I know...it's about time! Here are some pics of us celebrating Christmas. While we met for breakfast at Val and Don's, Boston started with his fist as an appetizer. Yum! He's becoming quite talented...sometimes he can even fit both fists in at the same time!

He just loves his Great Grandma Stirk, and for some reason is always fascinated with her chin. Honestly, I have four different pictures of them and he is grabbing her chin in all of them. She was a good sport!

Boston also had a great time visiting with Grandma and Grandpa Wells. He loved the stocking they gave him, full of Gerber carrots, peas, and squash...yum! Veggies are his favorite. He takes after his mama!

We had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed spending time with our families. We are so grateful for our many blessings, for the birth of our Saviour and for the blessings that the gospel brings into our lives. We hope you all had a very merry Christmas, as well!
