Well to go along with tradition, I attempted to make a "grill" cake for Cody this year. My inspiration for the cake was actually Cody's home-built smoker (He likes to call it his BIG "A" Smoker).
As far as the cake goes, I decided to give fondant a try. I've always been nervous to use it mostly because I didn't know how. Oh well, there is a first time for everything and it actually wasn't that bad...just don't look too close in the pictures. My friend (and cake artist), April, supplied me with some power tools for the job. Who would have thought that I would be using an air compressor in the kitchen? It was, to say the least....AWESOME. I loved using the airbrush to paint the fake hamburgers and hot dogs. In fact I loved using the airbrush and paint so much, I am surprised that Cody's cake didn't turn into a tie-dyed mess.
