Nugget Point

At more than 46° South, the only significant human settlements south of here are Punta Arenas, Chile and the Falkland Islands.

Located at the northern end of the Catlins coast, this lighthouse at Nugget Point was build in 1869 and stands 250 ft above the water.

Milford Sound

Milford Sound, located in Fiordland National Park, has lush rain forests that cling precariously to sheer rock faces that rise to over 1 mile high. Quite easily, this is the most beautiful place in New Zealand.

Here's a photo from wikipedia on a nice clear day.

We set off in Milford Sound on a boat cruise as 24 hours of rain were clearing out. It created literally thousands of spontaneous waterfalls that we were fortunate to witness, as the waterfalls dry out in less than a day.

Campervan Craziness

We spent 11 days, 10 nights, and 1500 miles in our manual transmission, turbo diesel, Maui Spirit 6 Campervan.

Sydney spent many hours in her car seat

Yummy dinner cooked on our 4-burner propane stove

Improvising for Sydney's bedtime bath

Views of Purple Hill

Too bad the Campervan didn't come with laundry facilities

Franz Josef Glacier

The Franz Josef Glacier descends from the Southern Alps to only 600 feet above sea level.

The ice flow rate is 10 times faster than glaciers in the European Alps, which makes it dangerous to get any closer than this to the glacier's terminal face.
