Leits the Lamp 2011-2012 Fantasy Hockey League Draft Order

So since there's likely not going to be an NBA season this year, and therefore no fantasy NBA season, I put together a Fantasy Hockey League through ESPN and got a pretty nice turnout. And I decided that it would be easier to post the video of our random draft order determination here, rather than putting it directly on the league site. So my apologies to those of you not in the league, but this post is for those 9 members.

So there you have it. The league order has been posted below and has also been updated on the league's website.

The draft is scheduled for Oct 2 at 7:30 pm MST. Hope to see all of our league members there.

Draft Order
1. PAHL Snipers
2. California Snipers
3. Team Williams
4. Meister McThundersticks
5. The Big Slovakian
6. The Tank
7. Frozen Knuckles
8. Gone Skatin'
9. Team Fiscus
10. Beantown Champs 2011

Fall/Winter 2010 Champions!
That's right, the Ice Holes did it. We were able to pull out a hard fought league championship. In my last post we were heading into playoff showndown #1 with the Tuques. It was a killer game, but we were able to come away with the 2-1 win moving us into the championship round. The Tuques were dropped into the consolation bracket where they were fortunate to get by the Instigators in OT. They tied that game with 48 sec left and then won via the shootout.

That set up playoff game #2 vs the Tuques which was not as favorable for us. They came out like a desperate team and flat out worked us in the game. Yet we still went into the 3rd period tied at 2 and after allowing a bad goal against, we were again able to tie the score at 3 with around 8 minutes to go. It looked like momentum was starting to swing our way, and that we would be heading to overtime, when the Tuques got a fluke goal with 48 sec left (sound familiar/ 2:06 in the video link below) in the game. So that set up game #7 against the tuques this season. A one game, winner take all finale.

This game started much like the previous game. We left the Tuques jump out to an early 1-0 lead, but tied the game right at the end of the first period. They jumped out 2-1 midway through the second, but again we were able to even the score at 2 before the intermission.

And then we played our best period of hockey all season long. Something happened and we just took over all aspects of the game. The Tuques lost their cool and began collecting penalties like they were rare coins or stamps. And my line was able to exploit their defense. We scored 3 goals on one shift to puch the lead to 5-2 before the Tuques got one back on a power play. But on the next shift, our defenseman who had been serving the penlaty, was able to go down and put one in the net making the score 6-3 which would prove to be the final score.

It was really fun to get back into a game with the intensity that this game had (even though, as Rachelle likes to point out, it was only a men's league game). Members of the Tuques took it so seriously, they created a video trailer before the game which they posted on their team facebook page (yes, they really did make one). You can see the video here (http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/video/video.php?v=10150141301725285&oid=133697366852). On a side note, when you click on the link, that is me with the puck in the thumbnail for the video, and for some reason they put clips of me scoring against them in their team highlight video (see 0:44 sec).

After the game, the league director brought out the league trophy for us to goof around with and take photos with (hence the above picture) and he also brought us championship shirts into the locker room.

All in all, it was great to get back into a league again. I can't wait for the fall season to come back around so I can get back into it. (I'm taking the summer off to save money for the fall unless you would like to make a charitable donation to me).

PAHL

So since we moved back to good ole AF, I have been able to get back into a men's hockey league for the first time since I busted open my eye playing in the Ogden league back in 2005.
For those who don't remember that little beauty, here's a reminder.

I got in in touch with and placed onto the Ice Holes team in the Peaks Adult Hockey League division 3. It's been fun to get back out there and playing actualy games again and not just pick up once a week.

The season started out very well with us winning our first 4 games by a combined score of 36-10. We then ran into our stiffest competition in the league, the Tuques, and lost our first matchup 5-1. After that, we got back on track and again won 4 games (including a nice retrobution win against the Tuques 3-1 two games later) before tying the Ninja Turtles 2-2. We then posted another two solid wins by a combined 14-5 score and looked like we were back on track, but we had our worst game of the year and lost to the Instigators 3-1 in a very penalty filled affair.

After the Instigators debacle, we got it together and won our final two games 5-1 (over the Tuques) and 8-4 (over the Decepticons). This let us finish the season 12-2-1 and sit in the top overall seed going into the playoffs.

After a first round bye, we matched up again with the Ninja Turtles. In three games against the Turtles we had won 1-0, 3-2, and tied 2-2. They had played us the toughest of any team throughout the league. But we were able to get it together and shut them out 3-0 in a game which saw Aves watch his dad play for the first time ever. There's nothing that will make a father happier than scoring a goal and looking up in the stands to see his boy clapping and shouting.

The Tuques, who finished second in the league 2 points behind us, also got a first round bye and won their matchup against the Instigators fairly easily.

This sets up what should be an epic game with them that will happen on Mar 8th. Should we win that game, the Tuques will have to go play the team that won their way through the loser's backet and the winner of their game will play us again for the title. Should we lose to the Tuques, we would have to follow the same path back to the title.

Either way, it's been a really good time getting back into the league (that's not run by a crooked jerk like the Ogden league).

I'll keep you posted on the outcome of the season.

This was taken by my buddy Cameron Card during our third and final game of the season against the Tuques. This game bascially determined which of us would finish #1 and which #2 on the season. Cam plays for the Tuques but was out serving the second game of a two game suspenison. As you can see, we were in complete control of the game and the Tuques had become a little frustrated at this point.

Again, taken by Cam, this is me skating off the ice after scoring against the Tuques.

And just incase anyone is interested, here are the results from our games this season:

Regular Season
14-5 over Decepticons
10-2 over Storm
3-2 over Instigators
9-1 over Decepticons
1-5 to Tuques
1-0 over Ninja Turtles
3-1 over Tuques
12-3 over Storm
3-2 over Ninja Turtles
2-2 with Ninja Turtles
9-2 Storm
5-3 Instigators
1-3 to Instigators
5-1 over Tuques
8-4 over Decepticons

Playoffs
3-0 over Ninja Turtles

Chris' Blog

Chris originally started this blog in 2006 writing about sports. We then changed the blog and I began adding posts about our family. With a lot of thought, I have decided I'd feel more comfortable having my own private blog where only friends and family could have access. Chris wants to keep this blog open, so I have begun my own blog-deleted my old posts and am giving full reins on this blog back to Chris. I've gotten a lot of emails asking about the change, so I thought I'd type a quick explanation.

Hogle Zoo with Jason and Emma
So today Jason called me and invited Avery and I to go to the Zoo with he and Emma.  It was a really nice day and it was something to get us out of the house, so we figured it'd be fun.  It was really funny to see Emma watching all of the animals (and getting scared by the "noisy elephant") and watching Avery watch all of the kids.  We figured that if we got there around 10, it would still be a little cooler and there wouldn't be much of a crowd.  But when we got there we realized there were a couple of Elementary school's having field trips today (including West Haven Elementary which is really close to Rachelle's school).  Here are some of the pictures from today.

Utes Parade and Rally
These are pictures of Rachelle, Avery, and I going to the Parade and Rally for the 2008-2009 Sugar Bowl Champion Utah Utes.

This is Avery meeting his Aunt Diane for the first time. She's in her Sugar Bowl gear.
