Getting Started

So I guess the very first thing you need to do is to create your blog. Choose the site you wish to host your blog. For this post, we will use Blogger.com as our example. On the home page of Blogger.com, you will see a large orange arrow that says create your blog now, Click it!

1. Create a google account (Unless you already have one). Fill out all of the information on this page and select continue.

2. On this page, you will create the name of your blog. Choose a blog title and URL. If you choose a URL that is not available, you might have to get a little create because all of the basics are already taken. Then select continue.

3. Now choose your template. This is the basic design and look for your blog. If you like the templates, then feel free to choose one. If you want to get creative and add your own flair by uplaoding your own template, choose the minima template and select continue.

4. Congratulations! Your blog has been created. You can now add posts, customize it, add pictures, music, links, whatever your heart desires!!!!

Designing Blog Backgrounds

I decided it was time to add another how to post. For those of you who love scrapbooking, then this is totally up your ally. I love scrapbooking, but I love digital scapbooking even more. It's cheaper and takes up far less space, and you can create your own beautiful blog backgrounds.

Photoshop is an amazing program, however it is very expensive, so for those of you who can't afford to dish out the dough, I have 4 words for you: GNU Image Manipulation Program or GIMP. The Gimp program is very much like photoshop, but it is free. To download this little software gem: http://www.gimp.org/. After downloading I recommend going through a few tutorials before you start designing, otherwise you will get extrememly frustrated and abandon the whole digital thing. I don't want this to happen, so here are some URLs to help:

-http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/ : This site has several levels, beginning, intermediate, and expert
-http://www.gimp-tutorials.com/tutorial/GIMP-Tutorial-Creating-You-First-Digital-Scrapbook-Layout-480.html : This is specifically for di gital scrapbooking.

For papers and elements I recommend http://www.shabbyprincess.com/. Select downloads and choose a kit or two to download. Good luck and have fun!

I hope this might help you get started. If you still have questions about how to use GIMP, let me know and I will create specific tutorial posts.

Changing your Blog Background

After you have actually created your blog I think it is important for your blog to make a statement about you. Give it some of your personality! How do you do that? Very easily. And since I don't like to re-invent the wheel, I am going to point you to some blogs that will help.

The first blog is http://www.cutestblogontheblock.blogspot.com/. This blog is very basic. It not only has a snippet on how to change your background; it also has some dang cute blog backgrounds. Okay, so they might not be cute as my own blog backgrounds, but they are very cute.

The next blog is a little more technical. It is http://sjhblogdesign.blogspot.com/. This blog deals a lot with the HTML, but it is great. It has wonderful instruction and is very straight forward.

If these two blogs don't give you evertyhing you need for creating a cute blog background, then leave a comment and let me know!
