Most of the guys that work for Pinnacle are of course members of the church; most are returned missionaries, so I was a little surprised a few weeks ago when driving a new sales rep home from the airport to find out he was not LDS. He was, however, familiar with the church, having worked for the last two summers in sales offices that were predominantly comprised of LDS guys.
I naturally invited this new rep, James Gahn, to go to church with the single guys. The other guys in the office took him to church, set up the missionary discussions, and tutored him through the process. I was surprised and honored when he asked me to baptize him. He is a great young man, and I'm happy for him and the decision he has made.
I am also greatly impressed with all the guys in the office; they have been a great support to James as he has studied the gospel. At each discussion James had with the elders, there were at least five other guys there. I have been very moved to observe this conversion process touch James' life and to see the power of influence the other men of the office have had by virtue of their willingness to love and accept James and by virtue of their righteous examples. The service was great; all of the assignments for prayers, talks, confirmation, and even playing the piano were filled by the guys in our sales office. The meeting went very well; the spirit was strong. It is indeed a marvelous work and a wonder, and I reflected on what an opportunity we have to do missionary work as Pinnacle grows and hires more and more people who are not LDS.
After the baptismal service, two other young men that recently came to us, who are also not yet LDS, asked for copies of the Book of Mormon. My hope is that they too will accept the invitation to meet with the elders and change their lives for the better.
