back to school 'party'

HELLO TOWNERS!

For the second time this year, its back to school!

We have a couple of new faces around the block - some of which are foreign exchange students, others who are freshie seniors or year 2 intakers, and of course the returning seniors who just completed their SEP (student exchange programme) overseas.

To say a big welcome to one and all, we're gonna hold a small back-to-school 'party'.

Date: 15 Jan '09 (Thursday)
Time: 9pm
Venue: Block C Rooftop
Attire: C-asual

In light of the short notice (its TOMORROW!), and this being the IHG period, its not going to be anything fancy or elaborate. In fact, we predict a quickie. This will be good for those of us who're still acclimatizing and tuning our minds back to school-mode (whatever that means).

Just a round of introductions, a few housekeeping matters (including a brief touch on the annual Block C production - our very own Night of 77 Stars), some simple snacks and maybe throw in one or two games. Short and sweet - doubly effective if you're brimming to scream with excitement at the sight of all those dear familiar faces in one place, and even getting to know a few new ones at the same time.

C you there!

IHG 08/09

Hello C-Towners!

Those of you who went down to MPSH 6 to support the first sport played in this year's IHG would have borne witness to a series of exciting and intense (scratch that, I meant extremely intense) matches played by the Sheares Sepak Takraw team.

It was a nail-biting fight from start to finish, and the team did brilliantly to convincingly win both Eusoff and Temasek Halls (in that order). In case you think it was an easy battle, think again.

To win a game against an opponent team, you need to win 2 out of 3 matches. Sounds simple? I haven't finished. Each match comprises 3 sets - and you have to win 2 out of 3 sets to take the match (1st & 2nd set- first team to reach 21 points; 3rd set- first team to reach 15 points). So against each team, that's a minimum of 6, and a maximum of 9 games consecutively. Of course the players get to substitute, but that's secondary.

It was a really eye-opening experience, even as a spectator on the sidelines. Amazing skills were executed - some stunts that made the crowd go wildwildwild (some by our very own Goh Chern Kuan in his last IHG). At 9am  on a Sunday morning, Sheares had the most number of supporters, and Shearites were the only ones who cheered our team consistently - regardless of whether the players won or lost the point/set/match. Most of the other halls only cheered when their team scored, and were unsupportively silent when their team conceded a point. Most Shearites even stayed the entire duration to 4pm. That's 7 hours of dedicated cheering, showcasing an excellent display of the Sheares spirit.

Look forward to seeing more C-Towners at the upcoming IHG games, to support our fellow Towners and Team Sheares! For now, cheerios.
