Night Cycling - Romance on the Road

Some things are meant to be done in the dark... don’t let your thoughts wander off the road (literally).. i was referring to nothing else but sheares link’s annual event – night cycling!
This time, instead of a sea of orange, crooked lopsided lines of moving orange thronged the transport network of Singapore. (okay maybe not the whole Singapore, or i would not be here typing this write up)

The first part of the “Romance on the road” saga involved us moving ‘up and down’ together. After that, we kept going around in circles, and reached a ciimax of exhilaration as we rushed down the highway stretch. Blasts of cool air welcomed our sweaty faces and tired limbs as we sprinted towards geylang in anticipation for something more than chicken. We were greeted by the comforting sight of milky soya bean and crispy you tiao.

It was a juggling act trying to balance the tandem bike and communicate between two individuals. Sometimes we went fast, sometimes we went slow. There were a few heart stopping moments where huge lorries or fast cars whooshed past our fragile metal structure. It was the first cycling or /and the last cycling event some shearites were taking part in so everyone was out to have some form of fun. Along the way, we stopped at Botanical Gardens, where people attempted to monkey up the majestic entrance gates, and we cycled further on past the CBD district to the dazzling esplanade. It was a truly memorable route as we whizzed down ECP and onto geylang, then to kallang and finally ending up in the East after many many hours of toil sweat , sleeplessness infused with joy and laughter.

The ending point at east coast park beckoned to us with a promise of a hot shower, food and sleep as we sprinted into the sunrise in search of a better tomorrow. (haha)
As we headed back to hall or home, Our butts were throbbing to the beats of “numb” by linkin park and our thighs had morphed into stretched rubber bands. Everyone had lost all sense of any muscular sensations as eyes threatened to do curtain calls. Most of us enjoyed ourselves despite the many stops we had along the way, and we look forward to a single-bike night cycling event in the NEAR future !!

Halloween is here...

Being the lazy person that i am, i wanted to take the lift up to
level four to reach the comm hall this morning... even though i was on level three.

To my horror, this is what i found in the lift..

Please leave Peter alone

They always tell us scary stories about hall, as if hall is a pool of scary paranormal happenings. But maybe, just maybe there is some truth in those stories? Sheares Hall best kept secret came in the form of Lim Xiaohan, Peter. He was the Chairperson of the Moving Committee which took care of the affairs of moving from the old hall to the new premises. He is a responsible leader. Was. Lim Xiaohan, Peter, is dead.

On the night that the committee was supposed to clear the old Hall's Block C lounge, Peter volunteered to do the graveyard shift, for he felt he was responsible for clearing his own Block's mess. 2 of his fellow towners offered their help. 3 of them spent most of the time sorting out the junks and salvaging whatever they deemed useful.

On a full moon like that night, strange things happen. But none stranger than what these 3 young men were to uncover. On a walkway into Block C, Peter and his 2 fellow towners experienced something inexplicable. There were stench of blood the moment they entered the block. Those horrible stale smell of oxidised iron filled the air.

At that time, because the new Hall was only recently completed, there was no electricity. Aided by their trusty torchlight, Peter and the 2 friends looked around to find the source of the smell. The night was cold, and it didn't help when the windy breeze gently touches Peter's face, as if caressing him into the hand of death 'cause the 3 young men did not return from their expedition.

Legend has it that the construction workers who worked at the new hall was worshiping Vlad. It was not known at that time that sacrificial rituals were conducted within the walls of the partially constructed new hall. What those poor 3 young men stumbled upon was the blood of one of those sacrificial rituals to satisfy Vlad. IT was also said that the 3 young men was slaughtered in cold blood, and their remains were cemented within the walls of Block C.

The perpetrators were found, caught and tried. They were convicted based on circumstantial evidences and condemned to death by the hangman. The trial was held in closed doors. The bodies of those 3 young men were never found but they'll forever be a part of Sheares Hall. 'Official' missing persons reports were filed, and until now remained unsolved. There was an extravagant cover-up soon after, and until today, the Office Staffs denies any of these is true, but of course, the files in the JCRC Room never lie.

Every now and then, the lift sometimes randomly go to floors which nobody was around. Perhaps something is underneath the lift chute? The lights will flicker at the stairways. Perhaps Vlad is calling for more blood? Sometimes, sounds can be heard within the walls, scratching and thumping. Perhaps something in the walls yearn to come out and play? But please, I beg you, ignore the sounds, or that soft spoken man who wants to play volleyball.

Please leave Peter alone.

JTS, love is in the air

Tonight was JTS, Junior Treat Senior. In a bid to thank the seniors for all that they have done for them, the juniors got together to whip up a loving dinner and appointed each of themselves waiter and waitress for the night. Not to be out done in the loving department, certain/some/couple/two seniors made their "startling" revelation of their blossoming feelings for the juniors. Some chose to make multiple song dedications with heart warming messages while others, the bold ones as it would be more apt to refer them(him) as, chose to express the senior's love for the juniors with..... a wet sticky kiss!

Edwin being friendly with Jiesheng.

Extract from Edwin's speech after the kiss :"Valerie, you owe me $10"

Saturday Night Dinner

My saturday dinners are usually instant noodles in the confines of my room, with most C-Towners either out with their partners, friends or family. Today however, I was lucky. Chris, Alicia, Emily, Yi Heng, and Bo yan accompanied me in my quest for a decent dinner.

First stop, Rolling Wok - Closed.

Second stop, Subway - ridiculously crowded

Our third and final stop was the Dover Market where we ordered Fish Head Curry, Hot Plate Beef, Claypot Toufu, and Prawn Paste Chicken. Sounds yummy? Sure it does. Was it yummy? NO. The claypot toufu was tasteless, the prawn paste left no trace on the chicken, and the fish head curry tasted like its main ingredient was chilli. Oh, not to mention the sacrilegiously rubber-tasting beef.

Were our brave diners going to pay $49 for food that crappy? Of course not.

Problem:

We had to pay $49 for lousy food.

Analysis:

Alternate solutions were discussed, among which includes leaving what we thought the food was worth on the table - varies from $2 to $5 person - running in separate directions, sending boyan to ready the escape vehicle.

After surveying our immediate environment, we realised we were smack in front of the store and surrounded by burly middle aged drinkers who might or might not be Friends of Zhi Char Store.

Design:

We settled on all of us walking away at the same time towards the vehicle, and claiming amnesia if we should get caught. Good Plan.

Implementation:

After carefully eyeing the shop aunty for sometime, Shaun found the perfect escape opportunity when 2 fat aunties approached the shop aunty, temporarily obstructing her view of us. He stood up, and breathed, "let's go, now now NOW!" and our daring heroes casually stood up, plastic chairs scrapping the concrete ground as they made their way towards the carpark, the pack led by Shaun and Boyan.

Things were looking good for our escape artists when while walking immediately beside a hdb flat, our leaders heard an aunty shout out in hokkien "Buey Zhi Char eh!!!" and looked up to see a plump hand and stubby finger pointing at them. The shit has hit the fan, it was now time to run! Shaun and Boyan burst out running and the clueless pack(especially Emily who doesn't undestand Hokkien) followed.

Getting into the getaway vehicle in record time, the packed Lexus hurried out of the parking lot and into the main road with all 6 hearts of our maverick diners pounding furiously in their chests.

Once safely out of harm's way, our heroes did a "woosh" in the car and left feeling proud of their principled natures - Never Pay Good Money For Bad Food.

Some notable quotes:

Chris: "Wah my heart's in my stomach!"
Emily: "Eh what is 'buey zhi char eh?' "

Mr and Ms Sheares ..... 2023/2024?

While the "Good Luck" supper was still on going in the sports hall, a couple sitting in the dark were busy interacting with each other. Oblivious to the stares and obvious interruptions by others trying to distract them, the both of them cuddled in the cool air conditioned hall. The lady sat on the man's lap, his hands wrapped gently but sufficiently secure around her..... it was damn obvious flirting! All these with the lady's mother sitting right behind the man. This, ladies and gentlemen, is call courage. I bring to you all... the culprits!

PS: I hope this also proves that Shaun and me are not gay.

Bun and Beans

Recently, I've lost the taste in my food, the colours in the world, the sound and music in the world. All I eat/drink/think/see/smell/touch is EJB(Enterprise Java Beans). For those who are interested to know more, don't. For those who want to take this module, CS2261, don't. It simply sucks everything alive out of you. I'm pretty sure many of you have such modules to share too. Maybe we should compile a list of stupid modules you should never take so there'll be less people falling asleep in the lounge.

Here's a video that made me laugh so loud and hard, I've decided not to leap out of my 2nd level window when programming.

Watch this space..

Alright.. just thot of spicing things up abit.. so watch this space for some bi weekly, weekly, or fortnightly feature( depends on how fast and how bo liao i am) heh

Title of experiment: the feature of a block c night owl

Objective:

to study the effect of staying up late (studying?)

Hypothesis:

The more you study, the later you sleep. The later you sleep, the greater your ability to sleep ANYWHERE (unconsciously).

Observations:

shown below is the behavior of this C-towner who always claims that his course is crazy n he is taking one of the hardest courses in NUS

click to enlarge>>> look at wat is on his ear!!

A close-up shot:

This guy fell asleep unconsciously for more than 20 minutes when 7 other mouths were talking (quite loudly).

Conclusion:

you tend to sleep anywhere if you study too much

Disclaimer: this lab report is only bullshit

For the short sighted among us

Nobody noticed the difference in the Independence Day poster. So as requested, here's a blown up version for everyone since clicking on the picture to view a larger image of it uses wayyyyy to much energy.

An Extract from the Level8ShortWing Blog

--- Since 'Jap' suggested we share this here ---

So, our @$@%#*^@ level directory keeps falling off. This is the third time since it was first mounted. Need to buy another hook AGAIN to put it back up....

However, on further examination, I stumbled upon a startling clue, that might help explain the nature behind this photoframe's inefficacy in defying gravity. It all lies in the name.
DROPS. WTF! Who in their right mind would go and name a wall hanging photoframe DROPS?! It's liking naming your first son Dumba$$ and expecting him to discover a new special theory of relativity. Why would any piece of embellishment want to put up the slightest fight against a force so strong as gravity if it's lived its entire life being conditioned into believing that it was named with the purpose of carrying out precisely the opposite function. Screw you IKEA. Go back to Sweden and do what you're good at, like invent Nobel Prizes or eat meatballs.

Level rep, if you're reading this, maybe you have some alien technology at hand that could help us brainwash this poor piece of plastic into having a little more self esteem so that it can begin to believe in itself once again. Or else even a stronger hook would do.

DROPS. sheesh. i still can't get over it.

for the record we still love ikea and the wonders it has done for brightening up our rooms. please don't go back to Sweden. I was only joking

for more random musings from the folks upstairs, tune into http://8short.blogspot.com
this isn't meant to divert traffic from the Diary, but just another space to post our level8 rubbish without flooding this site. if anything interesting and relevant does come up, we'll be sure to bring it over.. :)

War of the "Scotties"

As reported recently by Darius, several species of aliens have been sighted around in Sheares Hall. Particularly block c. Recent reported sightings are all closely related with the laundry room. Whats up with these aliens man?

Alien 9. Steals laundry from the laundry room to take home. Not just 1 or 2 pieces of laundry, but your ENTIRE laundry.

Alien 10. Puts the laundry into the washing machine and leave it there. (Without turning it on) Comes back a few hours later to wonder why the laundry is unwashed.

Beware everybody. The A-Virus is spreading. The signs are obvious..

RF Suppers

time of the year where all C Towners take a trip down together to level one to
visit our favourite resident fellow, jessie, and her adorable little daughter!!! :D

look at all the year ones in the back looking so handsome and pretty! hope you guys had a good time..

Guess Who?!

It was just like any other night up in level 8, me and my R51 spending quality time together, defragmenting, cleaning up drives, emptying recycle bins and sifting through old email folders - when i happened to chance upon a veerrrry intterrrresting artifact, which i thought would be just criminal if i kept to myself.

So for your reading pleasure here's what I pulled out from my JCRC folder archives, a stimulating email conversation between a potential incoming freshie and myself, regarding the fate of his/her future in Sheares Hall in the light of a minor blunder on their part.

Little did I know at the time, that this work of art would land up coming to our block and become a living testimony to the content that follows in the emails below.

Read on and keep the guesses coming!

Xxxxx Xxx

Haha, I think its pretty obvious who the culprit in question is, but if you do happen to be in a spot of doubt, the second last line should give it away! Personally, I too was quite surprised when i realised who he/she turned out to be. And better yet, even after i reminded him/her of this conversation and AFTER we've had a nice long talk and a good laugh about it, this genius still didn't realize that it was ME who was the one correesponding with him/her - ie even 2 months into the semester he/she hadn't realised that the Abhishek Radhablahblah he/she had been writing to was ME - EVEN AFTER I TOLD HIM/HER THAT I HAVE HER EMAILS.

So much for not doing 'such a dumb thing again'. :D

Why Block C Girls are the Best

On a starry night, when peace and tranquillity filled the air, the atmosphere was all set for this lone male C-Towner to concentrate and catch up on the many hours of webcasts that he has been missing…

However, such serenity was not to last when a bunch of guys from a neighbouring block soon came by, chanting and offering songs (the moon represents my heart) to girls willing to take the bait. Their cries for girls soon reached the warm and homely Block C, and being friendly female C-Towners, our girls spared them a moment to see what they had to offer. The outsiders seized the chance and crooned their songs of love, and had our girls thoroughly smitten at the end.

Unknown to many of the C-Towner freshie girls, this is a yearly act they put up. How can guys who go around flirting with girls from other blocks compare to our undying devotion to the girls in Block C? As a male resident of Block C, this was a bitter pill to swallow. Have our girls forgotten how much we treasure them? Putting up a stand, this lone male C-Towner tried to dissuade these outsiders from woo-ing the pretty girls from his block. However the plan backfired! Not only did the outsiders see through his lies, his very own block girls misunderstood and took offence!

Trouble soon came knocking on his door. First was a girl from another block, trying to bait him out of the room. But such childish trickery was useless… Next was treachery from his fellow comrades, trying to get him the poor male C-Towner out of his room. Imagine the pain of betrayal he felt! The girls finally got impatient and took matters into their own hands. Mobilizing almost all the girls she had at her disposal, the Biggest Block Head in Block C charged into the poor man’s room with 5 other ferocious girls and brought him to the toilet for a ponding session. The male C-Towner wasn’t about to give up without a fight! Struggling as hard as he could, he called out to his fellow comrades for aid. Yet they preferred to remain on the side of the opposite sex, standing by the sidelines and enjoying the show.

It wasn’t long before the poor male was wet from head to toe, with a tinge of soap. The girls suffered casualties, but it was a sounding victory for them. They left thinking the war was over. But the lone male C-Towner finally managed to knock sense into his fellow comrades, renewing their loyalty to the correct gender. Soon he had his soldiers gathered and ready for war. It was time to show every single female C-Towner how much we loved them.

Striking fast and hard, poor unsuspecting females were grabbed from their rooms and showered with love (a potent concoction of shampoo and shower foam); many others were drenched with pails of water and shaving gel foam. It was a massacre as the girls fought back desperately against the guys countless attempts to soak them with love. Utilizing basic strategies such as strength in numbers and their trump card ‘The Scream’, the girls managed to beat the guys back. Our old friend Jessie also paid a rare visit to check out the commotion and see which side was winning. The girls finally locked themselves up in the level 3 rooms, bidding for time to pass and the clock to strike 10 whereby they gain immunity from the guys. The battle ended when the guys made a final grab to an unsuspecting level 7 girl who was left alone and unprotected. Knowing that struggling was futile, she willingly walked into the cubicle for the guys to deliver the swift kill.

That should have been the end of the story.

While the lone male and his two fellow comrades were bathing in the level 8 toilet, they were petrified to hear maniacal grins from the girls of from the battle before! Coming up to level 8 armed and dangerous, they had the guys pinned in the toilet. Don’t these girls know when to quit! Their fighting spirit throughout the night has been commendable. Even against such mighty adversaries, they never once bowed down to defeat, striking back hard against the guys when they least expected it. Unfortunately they made ONE mistake. By waging war on level 8, they invited the level 8 guys into the fray. Being left out the whole night, these were desperate souls with wells of endless love. It was the opening of the Pandora’s box as the level 8 guys overwhelmed the girls with their love. After beating the band of guerrilla fighters on level 8, they soon brought their personal war of love to the other levels. Even while this lone male C-Towner is dry and safe in his room, the screams of girls being ponded could still be heard.

Once again, the Block C girls showed the guys what they were made of. It wasn’t by chance that they managed to retain the IBG Girls Overall Champion for a second year running. To all the Block C girls, you all are more than just Chiobus, you are the Xena’s, the Amazon’s, the warrior princesses that reside in Block C. No other block’s girls come close. You girls have a special place in our hearts, and we would gladly shower all of you with loads of love. All you have to do is ask =)

From a certain male C-Towner.

C-towners top 10 stunts..

On one silent night, Mothership M710 took a landing... sending in an influx of 'extra-intelligent beings'. While we thought that species E710 was the last we saw of the aliens.. they are comin back with more and more stunts that never fail to suprise us...

here's my take of the top 8 acts...( can't think or dunno others)

8 - Spiderpig, too green too free, making unecessary climbs to his room from the ground floor..and thus making it his hobby...

7 - Alien code A710 and its counterpart, A708 singing to a green triangular shaped object and getting posted on youtube..

6 - A lego haircut

5 - A green coloured spiderpig merlioning down from his window..( smart)

4- Alien st john trying to get our powerful drinkers, fat guitarist and mr receding.. drunk, in the process wasting alcohol and making itself drunk...

3
A handsome german speaking malaysia U23 pool champion complaining of pple getting drunk and spoiling his bday party.

2
A hollywood star lookalike merling out of his window........ but into someone's room... and having to offer a 'may i helpch u ' service..(not so smart...)

1
A??? putting a pancake in microwave, instead of cooking the pancake, cooks the microwave...

These stories are not fictitious. Any resemblance to anyone is intentional. No offence though.

Cheers! and good luck for midterms!!
