It's a bit queer that I haven't posted a single entry on Tibet until now. Other than the as usual, I am busy excuses, I was even more brilliant this time. I deleted every single draft post on my phone for the time in Tibet!!!!$^$%^$%%$%$ Super careless right. Haii.
Will try to write a short entry for each day in the next 1 or 2 weeks. haha..
But first, maybe I should let on that I have a new "Love" in my life- Xiaobai. haha.. it's been occupying my mind most of the time these days, till travelling has taken a back seat. It came to the point that whilst I was in Tibet, I kept thinking how nice it would have been if I could drive Xiaobai in the mountains.
I just bought an Mazda Rx-8 two months back. :) It's 6 speed manual, pre-facelifted version.
Why an 8? After the Nepal trip, I was really bored. Bored in the sense, I feel like I am working without an aim and so after a few weeks of consideration, I decided I was going to get a car. I knew I was never going to settle for a normal sedan or family car but I couldn't really afford those upmarket European car either. And so, I decided a Japanese performance car. There was a Suzuki Swift, Honda Integra, Subaru WRX or the Mazda RX8. Suzuki Swift was great for the pocket but it just didn't have enough torque and hp in her. Subaru WRX was a chao ah beng car. For almost the same price, I could get my hands on the RX8 that is packed with 240hp, compared to a Honda Integra with 190hp. Almost no brainer.
And so the search for the car took me 2 to 3 months and the wait for the last owner to dekit another 1.5 months. The ex-owner was a quite a humble guy but I heard from other RX8 owners that Xiaobai has quite a history behind her. It was a show car and was modified to be one of the fastest RX8 in Singapore. Anyhow, it's been de-kitted like 70%. It's been a great drive so far, some electronics problem here and there but no big deal....
It's interesting to note how my life has changed lately. All of the below is something that I am guilty of...
You know you are an RX8 owner when:
- you keep your drinks/food warm by placing them in the cup holder
- after parking your car, you always turn around to gaze at the RX8
- you turn the favourite music down to hear the engine
- you become very picky about your parking lot and won't park near any tom, dick or harry.
- everyday after work, you walk to the carpark and you think to yourself "Damn, isn't it the sexiest car in the carpark?"
- you play with your dipstick a lot
- you look down on people who settled for a ugly Boxster
- you have a car that is 240hp and redlines at 9000rpm, but if you keep it below 5k, it's called "abuse"
- everyday, you do a 360 around your car to make sure it's nice and shiny
- you start giving a friendly wave to other RX8 owners
- you look for the most crooked route to take on the map
- you spend more money on your car than your family
- you are feeling down and you jumped into the car, drive it around for an hour and come back all grinning again.
- you chose to get a new suspension system over doing Lasik
- when you wake up in the morning and can't wait to start your car
- (and lately) you downshift at 4500rpm.
hahaa... Xiaobai has been keeping me very entertained and occupied lately. The joy in owning her is BRILLIANT!
