A trip to nostalgia now and then is good for the mind. - Dan Bartolovic.
We went to my 20 year high school reunion this weekend. It was a very short trip up and back to North Dakota. Basically we were just there Friday night and Saturday.
I was impressed with how easily I was able to recall names and stories about my old classmates. There were a few people that I just recognized by their name tags because they were looking, well, so middle-aged. Half of the group (hopefully Christina and I fell in the group) looked much more like our high school selves than others. The Friday night gathering at the local tavern was a little more fun I thought than the actual reunion event. Mostly cause it was such a surprise to see so many folks the first day.
We skipped the tour of the high school (we've seen it recently) and thankfully, the choir reunion sing-a-long got canceled because of lack of participation. In hind-sight, I wish we would have stepped outside and sang the benediction or the school fight song together or something.
I missed several friends and lots of people asked about Wy who wasn't able to go. I just told everyone that Wy was too busy to make it this time around because he's preparing for his August race sailing from Australia to Hawaii.
One other quick note about G.F. My mom has done a great and courageous thing with the house - paying to have the giant spruce tree removed from the front yard. It's so refreshing to see the street from the house and the sunlight in the house. This winter, it's going to make a big difference in the late afternoons when the sun streams in the front windows. Next up, the shingles are getting replaced this week.
Moving on. We had a small, but nice party for Christina this weekend. She's on a gluten-free diet right now, so menus are a little challenged, but its forcing us to get out of our comfort zone too.
We're enjoying some of the Olympics around here; especially trying to find time to watch the gymnastics. It's too bad that they are on tape delay and shown on TV after the boys are typically in bed. I know they both like watching gymnastics. I imagine the big basketball, track and field and volleyball matches will all be shown late at night too.
Levi and Ezra have been doing tee ball in August too. Ezra only has one or two games left and Levi has three or four.
Christina takes the kids out somewhere almost every day. I'll post a few of her pictures now.
Take care and remember to make someone's day better today by providing a moment of love, respect or appreciation for the contributions they make to improve our human experience.
