Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, I've always loved stitching Quaker pieces, but none more than this piece...

1798 Quaker Sampler by Goode Huswife
40ct Barn Owl by Linens by Design
Using the called NPI Silk Floss
1/30 - 3/18/2019

I do enjoy the Goode Huswife pieces I've stitched and pieces I have yet to stitch...this is probably my favorite of them all.  It hangs in our living room and I see it all the time.

A Little Stitching

Gentle Friends, stitching away on AGW, and here's a snaperoo..

.. I popped it out of the Q-snap and it looks a bit bent... but I did finish up that potted plant ... there were a lot of starts and stops with this as I do not like to trsvel floss too much on the back, but it's done, and on to the little motifs and the big-black-house!

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, today is a Christmas piece that I stitched about 10 years ago...

... from Blackbird Designs, "Blessing be Thine"...  of course, I did it my way and I converted it from GAST and WDW overdyed cotton floss to Belle Soie overdyed silks...  stitched on 36ct Meadowlark from BoF - WDW Havana to BS Chocolate, GAST Cranberry to BS Red Fox, GAST Dried Thyme to BS Collard Greens, GAST Oatmeal to BS Oatmeal Scone.  I loved doing this and had planned to stitch it again... and may still get another one stitched up and made into a pillow.

A Little Movie Watching

Gentle Friends... here's a movie list I made up long ago...and I still stand by my choices...

15 Movies to watch again and again!!  In no particular order......

1. - Summertime - 1955 - It is because of this wonderful movie that the first place I went to in Europe was Italy and especially Venice!!

2. - The Emperor's New Grove - 2000 - I love Disney Movies and am the first in line when a new release comes out (Pinocchio is coming out really soon!) This one has it all!!
3. Marie Antoinette - 1938 - Gorgeous if unrealistic version of the Queen's life with Norma Shearer in top form - I also love the 2006 version with Kirsten Dunst.
4. Giant - 1956 - There are so many great Elizabeth Taylor films I love but I picked this one.
5. Now Voyager - 1942 - There are lots of super Bette Davis films I really love and her career was so long - she is in top form in this one.
6. Trip to Bountiful - 1985 - A lovely small film at the end of Geraldine Page's glorious career.
7. Mildred Pierce - 1945 - There are lots of great Joan Crawford films but this sums up her great career.
8. Stalag 17 - 1953 - I love WWII films and this is both a great William Holden performance set in WWII.

9. Meet Me in St Louis - 1944 - A great nostalgia film and a super Judy performance
10. Goodbye Mr. Chips - 1939 - A super movie - and I needed to include a Greer Garson title- this being her first Hollywood film and super performance.
11. White Christmas - 1954 - One of two Christmas films I can watch over and over
12. Scrooge - 1970 - The second Christmas film I could watch over and over - Not the best interpretation of the Dickens classic, but in my opinion a great musical.
13. Dames - 1934 - One of the many super Busby Berkley confections I love.
14. Witness for the Prosecution - 1957 - A great suspense mystery film.

15. The Women - 1939 - A stupendous ensemble film from that golden year of 1939.

There you go - my top 15 - Everyone has favorite films - what would yours be???
Think about it as it is very hard to narrow down a list!

Although I made the list up over a decade ago these are still films I watch when they pop up on TCM or I feel the need and grab the old DVD or Blu-Ray...an old film is like a good friend, always there!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends and the heavens opened up and there was rain... quite a bit here in the Bay area... as we left Mass yesterday morning it started up and on the drive over the hill into Noe Valley, the 5 minutes it takes to get home it whipped up to damn near torrential!!  Then it was off and on all day Sunday.  On the stitching front I'm still plugging away at AGW... here's a snap of how it is shaping up ...

...sorry about the Q-Snap and wrinkles but you can see that it is a bit on the slow-going side...
I do love the color palette!!

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, I picked another piece off the wall to showcase today.  " Le Jardin des Arbes" - A Garden of Trees...  here's a snap...

This piece I stitched about 12 years ago.  It comes from a French Magazine called "Mains & Merveilles Broderie Creative."  Even at the time I first saw this on another Blog post the issue was OOP. It took me a while to figure out from whence it came and then was lucky enough to borrow another stitchers copy so that I could stitch this sucker!!  Originally the sampler used only DMC but I converted all those to GAST floss and then stitched it on a piece of 36ct? PTP Heritage linen.  The saying in the middle translates loosely to "Each tree Welcomes its way to Spring."  It's a piece that I really loved stitching and see it all the time and still love seeing it hanging on the wall.  It is a shame that there wasn't a Fall piece to go with it but thems the breaks I guess!

A Little More Fall Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, I've started the second Hallowe'en piece... not too much to show but here's a snaperoo...

A Ghoultide Welcome - Plum Street Samplers
40ct LL Pecan Butter
Called For NPI Silk

This is a great piece for the season and since I had already started "A Yuletide Welcome" (about a decade ago...)  this will be a super companion piece...  now I need to find the YW piece, see where I left off, and pull that sucker back into shape.

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, I was putting some of the finished pieces into the"box" of finishes, basically a box full of rolled-up unframed cross-stitch, and saw this great piece...

"And They Sinned" - by Examplar Dames Design Co.
5/1/2011 - 1/14/2013
Stitched on 36ct Vintage Sand
Using mostly the recommended GAST Floss

Thinking back, this was a piece I stitched mostly over 2012 - although I started it in 2011 - I did next to no real stitching on it for months and months... so this was really a piece of 2013.  Sorry about the snap but to get it all in the same shot the daylight makes it look oddly dark at the bottom, it isn't... but you get the idea.  I really did enjoy this piece immensely.

A Little Finish for Fall

Gentle Friends, I finished up Salem Remembered this evening, and here's a snaperoo...

Salem Remembered - The Primitive Stitcher
8/13 - 9/03/2022
36ct Barn owl - Birds of a Feather
Silk Floss - some called for and some I chose

I loved finally checking this great piece off my list of things  I wanted to stitch.  There's another Salem/Witch piece I'm thinking about that has landed on my list now... but that's for later...I started my second piece for Hallowe'en and if what I get stitched looks interesting enough I might post a snap on Monday.

Flashback Friday

Gentle Friends, I was dusting up the things in the stairwell where the wall of stitchin' lurks and noticed this sweet little piece from long ago...

"Hetty Child" The Sampler Company
10/18 - 11/14/09
32ct Fog - My conversion from DMC to Belle Soie

I remember seeing this on another blog and was really drawn to the great border and the squirrels.  I framed this in an old frame I had gotten from an estate sale and still like how it turned out.
