Show and Tell Monday

Here again another Monday has rolled around. I was able to finish this set of Southern Bell Pillowcases. So there are two of these sets on my website right now.

Even though I have posted pictures of them in a previous post, I thought I would post again along with some suggestions on how to decorate with them.

Decorating Ideas:

Give one to 2 different grandchildren
Put one each on a set of twin beds
Take apart and use as curtains
Layer your bed with lots of pillows of different Southern Belles
Use as a chair back cover
Make a child's dress out of the pillowcases

Oh No! I was down but not out.

Well my website was down for part of the day today. It is back up and all is well now. To show you I have still been busy -- here is new set of pillowcases I am just finishing up. They are already on my site at http://www.beloved-creations.com/catalog.php?category=3

I have also started collecting these pot holders. I found 1 last week when I was at the yard sale.

Don't you just hate a sumer cold?

As many of you know I have living here helping to take care of my g.ma. She became really ill over the weekend and we almost lost her. My aunt and I stayed up more than 24 hours straight getting fluid by tiny drops into her mouth. Well I guess I got too fatigued and stressed out because I caught a terrible head cold. So now all my other aunts and uncle along with hospice have been with her for the last few days while I recoup.

An old man, probably some ninety plus years, feebly sat on the park bench. He didn't move, just sat with his head down, staring at his hands. When I sat down beside him he didn't acknowledge my presence. The longer I sat, the longer I wondered if he was ok.

Finally, not really wanting to disturb him, but wanting to check on him at the same time, I asked him if he was ok. He raised his head and looked at me and smiled.

Yes, I'm fine, thank you for asking, he said in a clear, strong voice.

I didn't mean to disturb you, sir, but you were just sitting here staring at your hands. I wanted to make sure you were ok.

"Have you ever looked at your hands?," he asked. I mean REALLY looked at your hands?
I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I turned them over, palms up and then palms down. No, I guess I had never really looked at my hands as I tried to figure out the point he was making.

Then he smiled and related this story:
Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have, how they have served you well throughout your years. These hands, though wrinkled, shriveled and weak have been the tools I have used all my life to reach out, to grab and embrace life. They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I crashed upon the floor. They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. As a child my mother taught me to fold them in prayer. They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots. They dried the tears of my children and caressed the Love of my life. They held my rifle and wiped my tears when I went off to war. They have been dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent. They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn son. Decorated with my wedding band they showed the world that I was married and loved someone special. They wrote the letters home and trembled and shook when I buried my parents and spouse and walked my daughter down the aisle. Yet, they were strong and sure when I dug my buddy out of a foxhole and lifted a plow off of my best friends foot. They have held children, consoled neighbors, and shook in fists of anger when I didn't understand. They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body. They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried and raw. And to this day, when not much of anything else of me works real well, these hands hold me up, lay me down, and again continue to fold in prayer. These hands are the mark of where I've been and the ruggedness of my life. But more importantly, it will be these hands that God will reach out and take, when he leads me home. And He won't care about where these hands have been or what they have done. What He will care about is to whom these hands belong and how much He loves these hands. And with these hands He will lift me to His side and there I will use these hands to touch the face of Christ.

No doubt I will never look at my hands the same again. I never saw the old man again after I left the park that day, but I will never forget him and the words he spoke.

When my hands are hurt or sore or when I stroke the face of my children and wife I think of the man in the park. I have a feeling he has been stroked and caressed and held by the hands of God.

I, too, want to touch the face of God and feel his hands upon my face.

Thank you, Father, God, for these hands and this life.

Vintage Verdi Handbag

As promised I will be posting at least one item per day from the yard sale on my blog and adding it to my website.

Today I am adding the Vintage Tapestry Verdi Handbag I found at an antique store near Russell Springs Kentucky. I have stopped in this store before and always found some treasures.

This hand bag is in excellent shape. The tapestry is beautiful but does have an area that has been repaired. Still it is a very beautiful bag!

Show and Tell Monday

Hello out there in the blogging world. Join us at http://makeminepink.com/ to see all the Show and Tell Monday Blogs.

I will be blogging about my new wonderful vintage textiles I found at the yard sale all week. So check back each day to see something new I've added to my web site.

In the mean time, I am working on a new Southern Bell Pillowcase set. She is beautiful and I can't wait till I finish.

Dare to be different

The 127 yard sale I have to say is really different. There was every kind of glass you could imagine, pink glass, white glass, blue glass and every other color under the rainbow. I wasn't in the market this time really for glass. I was looking for textiles. I did find some but not as much as I would have liked.

My Trip to the Longest Yard Sale

I'm on my way out of Hazard Thursday morning
I have no idea what the rocks are, but I am puzzeled by their round shape.
Isn't she cute!
What are these?
Of course I found a pink poodle! She did have some nice purses.Oooooops, not only did I come back with no money but no gas either.

I was so exhausted when I got home I had to go to bed for 2 days. Of course my back gave me fits and just couldn't get any relief at all. Anyway I did have a great time and met a lot of interesting people. Please read the previous post about Ralph. But I also met Minnie, the dog with the pierced ears, a pink poodle puppet, and say lots of interesting items for sale. Here are a few pics from the road. I'll post some of my purchases later.

Rt 127 Yard Sale in Russell Springs Kentucky

Yesterday I braved the yard sale and had so much fun. I ran out of back before I ran out of money though. Meaning my back hurt so bad I had to quit shopping before I ran out of money. Well, then I saw a sign for handmade quilts and bought one so I did come home without any yard sale money left.

I did want to post 2 pictures before I write more about the yard sale though.

This is a piece of farm equipment for sale by a very nice older gentleman I met at the yard sale. He gave me his card that reads -- Ralph's Yard Sale. I also learned he was written up in the Russell Springs newspaper and is very active in keeping the yard sale shoppers safe.

Any way, this piece of farm equipment is very old and if I remember what he told me it housed a gasoline engine and a grist mill. The price on this machine was very affordable for the farm equipment collector so check him out. He was just South of Russell Springs on the left in one of the clusters of yard sales. You can also reach him at 270-866-4392

Show and Tell Monday at Make Mine Pink

Well it is Monday again. Time to show off what we have been working on at http://makeminepink.com/

I finished 1 side of the Shoe and Roses table scarf and 1/2 finished the other side. So I'll post a pic when done.

This week I have been working on a secret. The Make Mine Pink "Getting Down to Business" Retreat is coming up next month and I am one of the sponsors. As a sponsor I get to display my business in a 2x2 foot table top. So I am working on something really interesting to show case my embroidery. You will have to be there to see it though. No peeks till then.

Also this week my cousin came by to show off her new puppy. Her name is Bella and she is a Morky. A Morky is a breed from a Yorky and a Maltese. You can't tell now but Bell as a cute little dress on and she did have bows on her ears. I gave my cousin some mini-yo-yo's to make hair clips for her and she has promised pictures of them.
