Pat's letter

July 2014
Dear Family:

June 14th – Thomas and Cora Smith reunion in Logan.  Fun to be together as siblings and visit with the Smith cousins.

July 5th – My children Johnson reunion – The theme was Gilbert Belnap, Lawman.  Gilbert was one of the first marshals in Ogden and served for 8 years.  We used some of his stories about being a lawman during our reunion.  We started with riding the Heber Creeper old fashion steam engine train from Heber to Vivian Park.  During the ride at one of the station stops, 2 bandits tried to rob the train.
Later at our camp, Jenny lined up the grandkids and made them deputies.  They were given a hat, badge, neckerchief, squirt gun for the pocket, and a horse (made out of pool noodles).  Kim taught them how to perform a play about Sheriff Belnap capturing some bandits in the Weber County area.  Everyone helped with the chuck wagon food, set up and cleanup.  We had a fun day as pioneer lawmen.
Sunday was a really special day.  Steven gave baby Robert a powerful baby blessing in the old home ward.  It was an amazing experience to have so many family priesthood holders in the circle.  My family alone took up several pews.

Set the date: August 1-3 – K & K Belnap reunion: watch for information from Stan & Sylvia.  I’m really looking forward to our special Belnap bonds.

Love you all and happy reunioning!  Aunt Pat

Washington Johnsons

Dear Family,

We just returned from a wonderful weekend in Utah where we were able to spend lots of time with family. Pat put together an awesome family reunion, which included a ride on the Heber Creeper, learning about Gilbert Belnap, a yummy pioneer dinner, and lots of family time. We also blessed Robert ("Bo") this weekend. Steve did a great job on the blessing and enjoyed introducing Bo to people in his mom's ward that watched Steve grow. We were also able to go boating a couple of times, which is always a treat.

A couple days before we left for Utah Steve had his big lecture. He presented on mandibular anesthesia. He did a great job and we are both relieved that it is over. His program is starting to wind down now.

We move the end of this month. We will miss living here, but are excited for our new adventures in El Paso.

Love,
The Washington Johnsons

Steve's letter

Dear Family,

What a great day it was yesterday to be part of baby Robert's blessing.  Steven gave a beautiful blessing and it was so good to be with so much family. It was fun to have Sadie here when she went to BYU for EFY.

David has been gone since May 23rd with the Santa Clara VanGuard.  He had to hustle and get all of his school work and tests done early so he could leave and go to Santa Clara.  He had to take 13 tests in 9 days.  He finished his work two weeks early and jumped on a plane and off he went.  He missed his seminary and high school graduation ceremonies but he was off living his dream.  He finished his high school career with a perfect 4.0.  He has been up and down California, Oregon, and Washington.  Today he is in Kuna and on Wednesday he comes to Ogden before taking off for Colorado, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas, Georgia, N.Carolina, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania among others.  His final stop is Indianapolis for the National Championships.  We are excited to see him compete on Wednesday.  He has worked hard and overcome a lot of adversity the last few months.  We are proud of him.  This is good training for him and his coming mission service.

Michael is selling Dish and Direct TV door to door and enjoying it.  He does well and gets to talk with lots of people.  He was in Colorado a while back and knocked on a door and talked with a girl.  While he did not get a sale, he did get a DJ job for her upcoming wedding.  He goes back at the end of this month with an all expense paid trip to do her wedding.

Heather is doing great.  She is faithfully doing everything she is asked to do.  All the dearly departed are influencing for good this family.

Kristy is depressed and getting fat. I think she is cute.  Even so, she was called to be the YW camp director and is working with the committee to prepare for the camp in August.  It will be the first time she has gone to girls camp in over 23 years.  I am enjoying all the treats. Cruiser is getting a little more lively and follows Kristy around all day.  He loves to go visit the cemetery.

Love to all,
Steve, Kristy, Michael, David, and Heather

Stan's Letter

Hi Family!
We are getting excited to have all of you come to the Belnap Reunion!  We are working hard to make it worth your time and effort to come to Pocatello!  Please call if you have any questions.
We are going 100 miles an hour trying to get ready for all the fun August festivities around here!
The Belnap Reunion the first weekend, our Hanks Reunion the next and then the wedding!  Fun, Fun.
Update on wedding info...
Kelsey's taking out her endowment on Thursday, August th 14th at 5:45 in the Mt Timpanogus Temple in American Fork, Utah.  All are invited that would like to do a session that evening.
The wedding is in the SLC Temple on Friday, August 15th at 12:00 noon.  We thought it was going to be at 11:00 but it is at noon.  Those that can attend need to be there 30 minutes early.
There will be a luncheon on the top floor of the Joseph Smith Bldg in the Garden Room at 3:00.
The Reception in Pocatello will be on Saturday, August 16th from 7:00 to 10:00
An Open House in Yakima, WA will be on Saturday, August 23rd from 7:00 to 10:00
It is an eventful summer for sure.
As many of you know, my sister, Annette McMinn passed away the first part of June.  I was able to be with her the day she passed away and that was very special for me.  I miss her terribly. Thanks so much for the many calls and notes.  It has helped alot! She had a beautiful service and yet it all happened so suddenly that it still doesn't quite seem real to me!
We had a great 4th of July.  Our Tyhee 7th Ward celebrated it's 100 year anniversary this summer.  We had a huge celebration and had a huge crowd to feed for both breakfast and lunch.  The old church building was fixed up and we all helped with the cleaning and preparation for that.  It was a huge endeavor but it was GRAND!!  Can't believe we have been here for 26 years!  We are now part of the history here!!  Elder Neil Anderson of the Quorum of the 12 was born and raised in Tyhee and is coming for our Stake Conference on Aug. 9th.  We are all very excited about that!
Devin, Nichole & Eli and Becky, Ben & kids all came up for the 4th and we had a blast.  We went to the ward celebration and then the parade and the next day went boating.  Awe....how we love the summer, and water and famiy!  Such a great time of year!
Stan was called to be in the Stake Sunday School Presy and so I am very lonely without him sitting by me in church.  He visits other wards almost every week.  It is just so different than the days where we filled up a whole row!
RS has been very busy and challenging for me this past little while.  I love my calling but have had some difficult issues to deal with that are heart breaking!  I am realizing more and more that service and strong testimonies keep us safe and happy!  Satan is on the rampage and we need to be prepared for battle at all times! Can't believe I have been in a year now! It has flown by!
We have loved having Kelsey here this summer and will really miss her when she and Taylor move to Oklahoma.  It will be an exciting time of life for them though.  She has worked so hard to get our yard and house ready for the big event!  I forgot how nice it is to have one of the children around to help again!! She is serving in the YSA Ward here and just came back from being the Stake Girls Camp Nurse in our Stake.  Everyone is finding out how valuable it is to have Kelsey on your team....she is a hard worker and lots of fun!!
Take care and hope to see you all next month!
Love you, Sylvia & Stan

Eagan letter

Hello there.  The Eagans are doing well this summer.  We'd planned on moving to Seattle this summer but the Army had a different plan in mind.  In fact, the Army doesn't want us anymore.  Aaron is being "involuntarily separated."  He has a 9 month transition course to go through and his last day is April 1.  So it looks like we will be staying put for another school year.  We were warned of the possibility months ago.  We knew 1,100 Captains would be let go from a pool of 19,000.  Guess we should play the lottery.  Aaron didn't realize how much he actually wanted out of the Army until he got his pink slip.  We had a dance party in the kitchen once he broke the news to me.  So now we are researching options.  Who knows what will happen!

We've been enjoying ourselves outside a lot this summer.  On Memorial Day we went to a local cemetery and did a scavenger hunt.  We had 3 teams and each had a camera.  We had to find all sorts of things... people born before a certain year, people with the same names as us, gravestones with a Q on them, war veterans, and much more.   We had a lot of fun and interesting conversations as we walked the sacred ground.

Afterwards we went to a park.  The kids were so obsessed with playing with the cameras that they practiced taking a lot of pictures.  There were a few gems, like this one:
but most of the pictures were of the playground.  So I'll spare you those.

We've got to a lot of parks.  The weather has been pretty mild so far.

Grandma and Bonka came to visit again for the 4th of July.  We had a big party.  BBQ, tons of food, fireworks and the missionaries too.  I thought this 3 generation picture was awesome.

Jaron has started cub scouts as a Tiger Scout.  One of his projects was to make a treat.  This one was an example in the book and it was perfect for the 4th!  He did a great job and the cake was super yummy.  (Considering it was gluten free... that's saying a lot.)

We did some fun fireworks in the backyard.  We didn't realize it was Miles' first time being around fireworks.  He was asleep in previous years.  Once the first boom happened, he screamed and ran for Mommy as fast as he could.  He cried and cried and was inconsolable for some time.  He was scared silly.  Grandma took him into the house and held him through the rest of the fireworks.

We went to the parade, as is our tradition.  We love our small town parade.  We love this little town.  We've decided we are small town folk... we really don't enjoy bigger cities.

Adopted kids have a special day called a "gotcha day."  It's the day their forever family brought them home.  June 3 was Shawn's 3rd gotcha day.  I made a video for him to commemorate the day.  I posted it on facebook and on our family blog... but in case you missed it, here it is.

I try to update our family blog as often as I can.  My children are very needy and the blog sometimes gets ignored for a while.  But when I do post stuff...I post a bunch of stuff all at once.  Please keep us in your prayers and let us know if you know of any awesome jobs that might be a fit for Aaron.  He mostly has management experience in the logistics and transportation field.  Sorry most of us won't be at the reunion this year.  Jaron will be there to represent us.  We love you all.

The Eagans

Boise Andersons

At a library picking up my emails.  I don't know if MaryAnn will be able to do the family letter or not.  They are in temporary housing and their computer is packed and in a moving van as of today.  Ed and Mary
Ann have ipads but that's it.  Starting for Kansas tomorrow.  Been to Kansas, Branson, Ed's house, and now in temporary housing tending the girls while Ed and MaryAnn are at their home watching the movers put their boxes into the van.  Tomorrow as I said we take off back to Kansas, pick up Jaron and bring him to Boise.  His other grandma is going to watch him while I am down with the right foot.  Left foot is doing well.  I walk fine with my bright pink athletic shoes and save the crocks for car rides.  Yesterday we lost power from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  That was a stretch of all my creative ideas entertaining 4 girls.  We learned 5 songs to sing in rounds and when Ed and MaryAnn and Paul came back from the packing, we performed a dinner theater for them.  We also had a spelling bee, played endless card games, etc.  So glad we have electricity today.  The base library is across the street and the kids like to come after lunch and play on the computers.  Hope all is well with you.

Reunion Info

In case you missed the email...

Hi Belnap family,

Hope you are getting excited for the K&K Belnap Reunion this summer! We are excited to have you all closer to our neck of the woods here in Pocatello. I’m finally getting some information out to everyone and hope this helps with your summer planning. I promise I will be better about the monthly family letters and keep you updated with assignments and other details.

First of all…Kelsey and Taylor!! Yes, they are getting married and we are so excited and happy about this fun event for our S&S family! Here is the update of her crazy, busy life the past little while! She graduated with her Associates in Nursing from BYUI in April and is an RN. She is now studying like crazy for her Boards, which she takes in Utah, the end of May. She has also started her 3 semester Bachelor program, on line, and will finish that next Spring and hopes to continue on and received her CRNA. She will decide where and when to do that when Taylor finds out where he will be going to PA school at that time as well. We LOVE Taylor and the great person he is! He is from Yakima, WA. & smart, fun, athletic and has a strong testimony of the gospel which shows in all he does! We have met his family and they are such fun, wonderful people. They all treat Kels so well and she just loves them. Taylor is kind to Kels & loves and cares for her so much already! It is wonderful for Stan & I to see this! They match well with their interests in sports and medicine and of course the gospel! He served a wonderful mission to San Salvador and then went to BYUI & met Kels & graduated from BYUI in Paramedicine, July 2013. He did an internship in OK and they offered him a job so he is a busy paramedic there now and has lived there since last Sept! Taylor proposed to Kelsey at the end of her SLC Marathon race, in April , and it was awesome. He had told her it would be a surprise when he showed up to pop the big question but he did let me know so I could help coordinate the whole thing. It was just perfect and she was SOOO surprised and happy. Her ring is gorgeous and the plans are in full swing now! Taylor’s parents flew in from WA to be a part of the big proposal as well so we all had a great weekend together. After their marriage, Kelsey will join him out there, and work as a Nurse in one of the many busy hospitals there. It will be such a fun time for them!

Now the wedding details: They will be getting married on Friday, August 15th in the SLC Temple. The sealing is at 11:00am. We will then have a reception in our backyard on Saturday, August 16th. Please pray for good weather. So now you have another date for all of your busy summer calendars! We can hardly wait for all of you to meet our newest soon to be member of the S&S Clan!!

Accommodations:
All of our children will be staying with us this year so I’m afraid we do not have room to accommodate others. We have checked for the best deals in town for overnight stay.

*The Clarion Inn is where our old Holiday Inn was. It has the best pool and play area. The regular price is $99 for 2 people, kids are free. There is no free breakfast here. They will give us a family reunion rate of $79 if we book more than 5 rooms.
*The cheapest hotel in town is Motel 6 which is $60 and it has no pool or breakfast.
*We also have a KOA camping sight off of Pocatello Creek Road
*Many in our area love to camp up Gibson Jack or the Mink Creek area which is in the mountains in south Pocatello. If you are interested in that call Stan and he will find out how to reserve a spot up there.

Other activities that some might consider if you want to come on Friday:
Pocatello Ross Park has a great swimming pool and slides and a beautiful park and zoo across the street.
The Museum of Clean is very fun to go through and has a lot of hands on, fun activities for small children. My grandchildren that went there loved it.
Bear World is right outside of Rexburg and about 50 minutes from Pocatello. We love going there and seeing the bears, elk and the kids ride fun kiddie rides.
Lava Hot Springs is 30-45 min south of Pocatello and many have asked about that. It would be a wonderful Friday activity. The pools are huge with Olympic sized diving boards and a water slide. Our kids have enjoyed floating the river there as well. It is a fun little town.
Waterskiing on Friday, for those interested in that. Stan has to work that day so we won't be taking our boat out. Those that may bring theirs might want to try Blackfoot’s Jensens Grove. Only 20 min from Pocatello. It is a very very small area but might not be too crowded on a Friday. Also there is the American Falls Reservoir, where we do most of our skiing.
There are great bike trails up City Creek. Those that like hiking, we have a fun, short hike up to China Peak which is just 15 minutes from our house.

Hopefully this will get us started with our planning. It will be fun to see everyone.

Love Stan & Sylvia
