freaked out

I watched ‘Orphan’ today with some classmates today and have some thoughts on the movie.
First of all, it was a truly disturbing film. The violence and the gore like wth. But the plot is considerably good, with a ‘little surprise’ near the end. Like the part where the kid said ‘they f*ck’ that totally shocked Kate. The F- bomb.. lol. There is moderate to explicit (up to ur own discretion) sexual contents in all and yea including hmm sex scenes. And i think the rating for this movie in US is only PG13. Singapore rating is NC-16. Despite the disturbing content, I still feel that you should not give this film a miss. It really did intrigue me and freak me out. Haha
For spoilers, this website pretty much tells u the gist of the story.. yea

tuesday

Yesterday night, while I was browsing through my textbook for the respiration topic, I stumbled upon this picture that made me freaked out totally. It was a dissection of the head along the frontal plane i.e. cutting the front portion of the face.. and i couldn't sleep that night lol. Its weird and deformed and grotesque. And it looks like a mask.. not like a human face. just..... weird.Arrgh. You'll have to see the image for urself cos it's hard to describe. Maybe u can try googling it if u are curious. lol. gives u a new perspective of how ur face looks like!

Then today anatomy prac was very interesting. Studying the upper limbs now. This time round, cadevers have no head which made it less scary. There's only the hands or the hands with trunk. All of them are dissected to different depth. They retained some parts of the skins.. my friend came up with this idea to do a high 5 with the corpse..lol.. they look and feel so real and human.. just without warmth. Smell is unpleasant and corpse is all cold clammy and wet. Alot of 'juices' oozing out from the tissues. It was fascinating to feel the nerves, tendons, blood vessels and muscles. Nerves are harder while blood vessels are hollow and collapsible. Tendons are white shimmery films or bundle that are harder while muscle just feels like meat, soft and thread-like. Bony landmarks are oso more apparent without the skin.

Then also got this mask-fitting session where they first sprayed a bitter subs into ur mouth. U are supposed to remember how it tastes like. Then u put on the N95 mask and they cover u with a sack with a hole through which he spray the bitter gas. U are supposed to turn ur heads about and see if u can smell or taste the bitter thingy. Looks a lil retarded. LOL. Then teacher went on to teach us how to wash hands >< lol

Yesterday, finalllllly had an F6 outing! =D Also to celebrate Nat's super duper belated bdae. She's just sooo busy. Jiayou nat for Singapore Idol AUdition!!! Shouldn't be a problem since she's taking lessons at Ocean Butterfiles. Hahas. Went to eat 家乡面. Soup was very nice! Noodle so so only.. too salty though. Hehe. Every outing with F6 is always so loud and attention grabbing and a little disgraceful! LOL. Like at arcade, we were yelling like nobody's business. I swear evyerone was looking at us la! Luckily I siam first. hehe. Bumped into Beeping too! She told us she is doing another yr at JJC. Everyone is like fine.. cos all got into uni and stuffs. In short I truly enjoyed yesterday's session.. did alot of catch-ups with the girls and realise i really miss them. It's like JC is soo far away. I went through about 2 new phases of life already! Working life and then poly life. But I'm settling well. =D Soo much changes in such a short span of time.. no wonder all the old memories seem so distant. I'm goin to keep this entry short since i received so many complaints that my blog posts are too long! haha.. SOme random pics..

They say my hair colour changed again?

Phsiology Practical. We had to prick our fingers to get blood. That's my blood (top panel) mixed with anti-serums

Xuelian- a bag of bones. She's getting skinnier and skinnier.. scary

My guitar =D culprit for my callused hands and painful joints!

Long post

I'm Back! lols. I've like come to the end of the third week in school and i must say I've adapted pretty well to it. And wow loads of things happened. So let me rewind a little. My class has like 2 JJC girls.. one of them is Sarah (which happens to be wenfang's friend since I read wf's blog)the other is Stephanie (2 yrs older). We study modules like anatomy, physiology (which is pretty much JC Bio), foundation in physiotherapy (which is my specialisation la), sociology (like GP except that there's no essay and i tink there's like mcq qns and short ans qns) and my elective is like Life Science, which is again biology all over again! Well of course alot of my classmates have no bio bgrounds so i guess they have to put in more effort.

For anatomy, well first week we studied the cadever (which is simply a dead body). I remember how how nervous I felt before entering the lab. haha. Put simply, the dead bodies are cut at the pelvis area where it contains the largest blood vessel then they insert some sort of pumps to drain the blood. Subsequently, preservatives are pumped into the body. And the bodies are cut up using saw along either the transverse, sagittal (equal right and left) or frontal plane( equal front and back). These bodies are usually donated or unclaimed bodies. The one I saw was cut along the sagittal plane and is more than like 20 years. He has no lower limbs and the penis has been cut off. It looks like a brown mass placed on the cold metallic surface. He has been well-preserved and is uncannily life-like. The place is filled with this odd smell of chemical not particularly pleasing to the nose. Huge jars line the walls containing preserved human organs. I think the parts that made me feel uncomfortable is the sound made when the prof is manuovering the corpse around, somewhat like rolling meat along the metallic surface that you see in a butcher's store in the market. ANother one was when prof lifted His eyelid and we saw the eyeball. SOrta light blue (not the colour of the iris though). His corneas were removed too. Well overall, it was truely eye-opening. But I'm kinda scared of touching it which we are like supposed to.

Then on Friday night of the first week, went to Kbox with my new classmates. Haha.. it was truely a crazy experience. lol. Got no photos tho.. HOpe to have more outings =D

For CCA, Wanted badminton and guitar. Didn't pass the selection test for badminton (too many pros) tho I passed the selection test for guitar. But the troublesome part is i've got to lug my guitar to school in addition to laptops, books and my heavy Anatomy textbook!! So I think i'm joining sketch arts since that was what I loved. It's somewhat like a professional Arts class and I think I'm going to like it. The timing is oso great. =D

Academics wise, hmm I'm kinda struggling in physiotherapy. Alot of hands-on since this is what they are preparing us for -to work in a clinical setting. Yea and Im having troubles with palpation! Save me! And i can't find the reference text in school library! All ON LOAN. -__-!!

Yea lastly I went to the school gym for the first time yesterday and I LOVE IT! It's so marvelous though it could have been more spacious., There's so many equipments over there! SInce we paid for the miscellaneous fee, why not make use of it? Haha..
