Journey through Infertility

When Kevin and I married in October 2002, we never imagined that we would have any trouble starting a family. After over a year of never getting a positive on a pregnancy test, we decided to go to the doctor and find out what was wrong. We thought it would be simple. A few tests, a diagnosis of the problem and a quick fix. Little did we know that we were in for almost 4 years of tests and surgeries and absololutely no reason found for our infertility.

In June 2007, we decided we would try IVF with the best doctor we could find. Of course, he was located in Philadelphia, 2 hours away from Scranton. We knew that it would be time consuming and stressful but we also had a feeling that this would work. After our first meeting with Dr. Glassner at Main Line Fertility, we knew we were at the right place. We started our first IVF cycle in July 2007. The shots and numerous trips to Philadelphia were not nearly as bad as we had expected. We managed to keep a positive attitude and always had a feeling that this was it for us. We transferred three 5-day blasts and on August 30, 2007, we had our first positive pregnancy test ever. Our first cycle worked! Boy, did it work!!!

We knew there was a chance of having multiples with IVF and we knew that the chance of having triplets was about 5%. We found out we were having twins on September 6, 2007 and were so excited. We had another ultrasound on September 13, 2007 to see the heartbeats and found out that one of the embryos had split. We were now expecting triplets! Our doctor was very optimistic and made us feel confident that we could do this.
