Where the heart is (domingo, 16 de diciembre de 2012),

I'm in a plane to Singapore right now. Boarding was delayed an hour because the plane arrived late, and now the flight's been delayed another hour because JFK utilises a single runway or something, and we're about 40 planes away from being able to take off.

It's the first time I will have been back in 2.5 years. I am so curious as to how it's changed. What percentage of it is shopping mall? Is the food more expensive? Is the weather still oppressive? Are the people as kiasu as ever?

I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.

Singapore will always have a corner in my heart. But New York is my home.

A Very ComD Halloween (sábado, 27 de octubre de 2012),

Tonight was the ComD Halloween party! Ana, Thomas, and I worked in Imaging until 5, where we helped Puja set up the photoshoot room. I spent 3 to 4 hours duct-taping layers of pages together from 4 old books I bought from the Strand (total: $11+).

The result:

I won Most Beautiful Costume!

Someone told me later that they'd overheard Kathleen say that it was reaaally close between Most Scary and Most Beautiful, hehe.

I was speaking to Kathleen afterward. She congratulated me on winning. I joked that I might use the $300 gift card I won to buy a printer LOLOLOL and in response, she offered me her old Epson 3800 for freeeee!!!! She's going to bring it to school next week. Aaaand then I ruined everything by awkwardly not being able to keep the conversation flowin'. I'm kicking myself still.

Such a crazy, awesome night. And one sorely needed. I'm sooo burnt out from school. I feel like shit and I feel like my work is shit and I don't know what I'm doing with my life anymore. It was nice not to think about work for 5 minutes... even if I wasn't able to sit down for the duration of the party. When I tried, the pages would start flaking and tearing and the taped opening would begin to split apart, flashing mah undies to the world.

Some awesome pumpkin carvings that my friends did:
Ana, Laura, and Ben did this. That is the genuine PMS colour for pumpkin hahahaah.
I think Nick Weltyk and Ross did this one. It's my absolute favourite! They even kerned it terribly. Conceptual attention to detail!

Junior Survey! (miércoles, 14 de diciembre de 2011),

My Junior Survey was today, and it was awesomeeeee!!!! My critique:

• Excellent presentation
• Your enthusiasm really comes through your work (Gerbs said this :)
• Drawing the infographics on the people for the crime booklet was a great idea. But in the case of a real campaign, you should rethink the crops and angles and drawings.
• Synthesizer as a package was good idea. One of the better ones we've seen so far
• The "Capital" and "1" parts of your Capital 1 logo aren't balanced because of the colour contrast. The black of the "Capital" stands out really well, but the yellow circle isn't as vibrant.
• I Like the AIG logo—how the letters look like they're falling into each other. It's not constrained by shape in a box. Be careful with the typeface though. It makes it look too much like the AIGA.

And then, as Cecilia, the ComD Assistant Chair, escorted me to the door, she asked me if I wanted a job. :DDDDDDDDDDD

I bumped into Shamir outside Steuben afterward, and he suggested that I make the "Capital" smaller or lighter. "Smaller than the circle?! Will that fit?!" Apparently so! I shall try it upon my return from London. He also remarked that he had commented the same thing all those months ago lol. I vaguely remember him doing so, but I must not have paid it much attention at the time -.- Silly ChiaLynn.

cody the parcels intern (martes, 15 de marzo de 2011),

Yesterday, Cody the Parcels intern asked for my number lol. He had tried sneakily once before, 'cause I'd left a file there for printing so I wouldn't be late for class. He texted Emma during Digital Dialogues asking for my number under the pretense of telling me that whatever I was printing was done, and Emma wrote me a note on a scrap of paper during the lecture, like genuine note-passing in school! I don't remember the last time I participated in that :) But I was extra-sneaky and just showed up at Parcels after class to get my print. :P
But anyway. He waited till Thomas and the blonde lady were off doing other stuff, and said something like, "Yeah, I waited till the other two were gone so they wouldn't hear, but can I have your number?" And I was all, "Uhhhh I don't think that's a good idea, seeing as I'm transferring schools in like 2 months." He played it cool-ish, changing the subject to how I have to enter another new school all over again.

I have to remember to try the all-encompassing rebuff Adam suggested I start using: You're not my type!

adolescent chialynn = ick (viernes, 11 de marzo de 2011),

So I just read a few posts on my first blog ever. I was 12, and kind of an asinine idiot -_-'''''' It's really a wonder I turned out the way I did... from how I was before. Like, I wouldn't be friends with my twelve-year-old self! I seriously cringed several times. I'm totally experiencing cognitive dissonance right now, because I like myself, but young me was a total noob! I suppose that's the (arguably) wonderful thing about blogs: they act as a record of your emotional growth. Your thoughts and personality, forever preserved for your private consumption (and mortification). Maybe in another 7 years, I'll stumble upon this blog and snort at my 19 year old self :P

...Also, why does my 15 year old self sound so happy? -.-'

bai hipster hitler (lunes, 29 de noviembre de 2010),

Today I sat next to Hipster Hitler, who said my outfit was pretty (what outfit?). During JGreg's long lecture on 20th century art, I wrote "poop" on his hand. A few slides later, I drew an accompanying illustration. How can you ask someone if she "wants to go out some time" and just never follow them up with an actual date proposal?!? The answer to that query is "if you're leaving for MICA in a month." :c I am disappoint.

teehee (domingo, 8 de agosto de 2010),

Something odd just happened. I was going home after a day out with Valmond, Adrian and Chris, and halfway down the shady old path from the JE bus interchange to the main road, this skinny boy with spiky orange hair in a dark blue t-shirt, berms and shoes came up from behind me (out of freaking NOWHERE) and:

boy: Excuse me, can I have your number?
me: ...... *makes what?! face*
boy: 'Cause I think you're pretty and...
me: Um... the thing is... I don't live in Singapore anymore.
boy: Are you Singaporean?
me: Yeah, but I go to school... overseas.
boy: Where?
me: America. The States. Delaware.
boy: Oh. And you're leaving soon?
me: Yeah, in a few weeks.
boy: Oh. Well can I be friends with you on facebook then? or get your email?
me: ....
boy: I'm not trying to stalk you or anything, but... maybe we could...
me: Uhhh... Fshhhhh... Nahh. I'm sorry, but... No.

I feel strangely validated. :3 (and that was half a jaykay)
