It's always fun on Christmas to see which new toy will break first...(Grrrr!) Well, it was my... I mean the kids new computer. Stupid Gateway. I ordered the computer in September. It took all my will-power to keep it hidden under the bed until Christmas. I had already lost the will-power battle with the Wii.(I only lasted about 2 weeks before giving it to them) So I was bound and determined to save the brand new 22 inch HD moniter (with TV tuner) totally fast, super cool computer for Christmas. I set it up, and 1 day later it died. I called Gateway where they informed me that I simply needed to pay shipping costs and they would fix it for me.(Double Grrrrrrr!) Other than that...
Christmas 2008 was a blast! On Christmas Eve we did our regular traditional things, we even almost got stuck on the mountain (in-laws house). Thank Heaven my husband is a skillful mini-van off roader! We stayed up until 3:30 wrapping last minute presents. We enjoyed the power outage (lol) I am thankful for my real wood fireplace. Our house stayed warm. Brent's dad made the kids this wooden peg-board triangleish game....it ended up being the main thing they wanted to play with since it didn't require power.
Of course now we are up to our elbows in Christmas crap! Jared had a basketball tourny (of course) so we haven't been home much. I am looking forward to Monday and getting the house back in order(somewhat). I don't know which is better....seeing Christmas come, or watching Christmas go. I like both. =)

Holiday eating tips (thanks MC)
I stole this from Marianne, who got it from Shauna, It made me laugh.
It is Holiday eating tips:
1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Holiday spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving fudge.
2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. It's rare.. You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-oholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it.
3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.
4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.
5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Holiday party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?
6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.
7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Holiday cookies, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.
8. Same for pies. Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day??
9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.
10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Re-read tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner. Remember this motto to live by:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Santa and my Dad
This is my dad and little bro Nate.
My little brother posted some funny memories of our dad. If anyone doesn't know, my dad died about 8 years ago. My dad loved Christmas. I think one of the reasons I love Santa so much is he reminds me of my dad. My dad was the ultimate Santa. He was kind to everyone. Sometimes it was even embarrassing. I remember a waitress at Wingers that my dad befriended. It seemed semi-inappropriate to me, however, I later found out that she was a newly-wed working mom who wanted to buy a home and was having trouble saving a down-payment. My dad was a real estate broker and he donated his commission so her family could buy their first home. He was always doing things like that. Another time it was snowing hard and a lady had broken down in her car. My dad and Brent were together and he pulled over to see if she needed a ride anywhere. She said no that someone else was coming and they drove away. Brent commented that he didn't think a woman should get into a car with 2 men, my dad said "If she needed our help, the Holy Ghost could have prompted her that it would be okay." He always looked for opportunities to help. One important thing I learned from my dad is "do what you can with what you have."
One way I try to honor my dads' memory it picking certain qualities that he possessed and trying to improve that area in my life. In doing this I have learned to listen to the Holy Ghost and help people who needed me. I try to be kind to everyone and look at things from their perspective. My dad was so quick to forgive that I have learned to be the same way.
I feel so blessed to have had a wonderful dad for 26 years of my life. (even though during plenty of those years I didn't know how great he was) I miss him every day. I've also learned plenty of things because he died. For example, I've learned that my dad is still around watching over his family. He still has a great desire to help us all and he will if we listen carefully to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. It has also made me realize that our Father in Heaven has always been there watching over my family and He has a great desire to bless us if we seek His counsel.
Any-who, thanks for reading, I wish all of my friends knew my dad. He would have treated you like a daughter if you were important to me. In fact, sometimes when I was first married, I thought he liked Brent more than me! He always welcomed our friends to our home and treated everyone with respect. I look forward to the day (in a long, long time) when I get to see him again.

Christmas Traditions
My tree is finally decorated! I am happy with how it turned out, I did it different this year. The hardest thing was Tyler was so excited to decorate it, he wanted to put absolutely everything we own on the tree. I caved in and put a few of the most sentimental ornaments on. I wish I had a good way to post a pic of it. It is purple, black and silver(very Christmasy, I know).
I am one of those crazy people who need to finish up shopping still! I am having a hard time finding one or two things. So, I'll be out and about this weekend while sane people are inside um...roasting chestnuts...er something.
We have some fun family traditions at Christmas time. Every Christmas Eve, we end up spending time with both families. We meet early with mine, and late with Brent's. It's crazy, but a lot of fun. Brent's family lives high in the hills of Herriman( up a dirt road and around the corner). Every year we decide if we need to be picked up at the bottom of the hill with a car with 4 wheel drive, or if we brave it up the hill in our mini-van. We have been stuck in snow and been towed out more than once. It's usually 2:00 in the morning when we get home. The kids are so exhausted that they drop into bed and wake up around 7:00 a.m.
I'd love for you to comment and tell me your favorite traditions. It's fun to hear what every one does at Christmas.

Christmas, Christmas time is here.....
Finally....everyone is as well as can be!!!!
I am going to expose my lameness right now, but in my defense...we were sick. We put up our Christmas tree today. Not decorations, mind you,...just the tree. Maybe I'll get them up before Christmas, I hope. I was finally hit with the Christmas spirit today. I love everything about this time of year. For the most part people are a little nicer and more patient. I have loved reading blogs about every one's favorite things. I thought I would add my owns fav. list. Here goes:
-I love Santa! He is awesome. Seriously, he is forgiving....I mean, is anyone ever on the naughty list? I love the idea of someone quietly giving gifts to make people happy with no recognition. (since he won't come if you're awake) I think he is handsome with the twinkle in his eye that comes from being so loving toward children. He gives gifts and asks nothing in return....nice guy.
-I love Nutcrackers, I don't know why. I try to buy one every year based on what is meaningful to me to help me remember the year. This year I want the red, white and blue flag print one because I have so much pride in our country and what our flag stands for.
-My tree is purple, black and silver this year(in my mind) to represent Riverton High school and the changed that Jared will make transitioning into High School sports in the spring. Go Jared.
-Most important, I love Jesus Christ. I can't fathom the love He has for all of us to sacrifice so much for our happiness. From humble beginnings to a glorious and triumphant return is very appropriate, I look to the day He comes again with joy, happiness and anticipation.
-I love the extra time with family and friends. We enjoyed the ward party although with such a big turnout, we weren't able to visit with everyone we wanted to.
Being sick, grumpy and smelling like throw-up and other things, I haven't been in the best mood. But I am challenging my self and my bloggerriffic friends with a few thing:
-Let someone ahead of you in line, in the drive-thru pay for the car behind you, find some one to help in whatever way you can, when you want to yell....don't....just smile.
Merry Christmas, don't be so stressed out that you forget to enjoy the season.

Day 8...or 9 I'm not sure
Day 8....or 9 I'm not sure:
I am starting to feel a little hopeless now, it's getting harder to think. I had this nice idea, "oh Yay! It's going to hit all of us at once...we'll be done in a week!" not so. We are getting ready for round 2. I guess maybe it's only fair, I don't think we've EVER been sick like this before.
.....oh ya, I have an appraisal at 9:30 tomorrow morning. I hope they don't dock you for smelliness. Pray for me. = (

I wonder what Heaven looks like....
Ya' know how when the pukies have almost been through your entire family and you are completely sleep deprived you start to hallucinate? I will be checking in the morning if I actually blogged or not.
Being held hostage day 6: I have often prayed for death when I am sick but Tyler said the funniest thing this morning. After throwing up 10 times during the night he said, " Mom, I wonder what Heaven looks like." and I said "there's no throw-up, I think."
Remember the song I'm being eaten by a boa constrictor? I have a funny version about being covered slowly in throw-up....I know, I know I need fresh air. I have gotten hints of being sick but not full blown sick yet. It's down to me and Jared although, Jared just went to bed after being up with a tummy ache. (do 6'2" 180 lb 14 year olds have tummy's?)
If I don't die from exhaustion, I will post something non-throw-uppy later, I promise.
One last thing, I left the house for 22 min. to go get pedialite and Gatorade, sprite, crackers ect. When I returned...JASON HAD PUKED ON MY COUCH!!!!!! GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took one for the couch
Warning: This post contains a story about throw-up....
Several months ago we got a new couch. We wondered who would be the first to "break it in". Last night, Jason was sick and up all night. He gave no warning...although in hindsight he did have "that look" in his eyes. All of the sudden, he barfed all over, not the couch, ME! And I do mean all over! I jumped up and took him to the tile. After I calmed him down I proceeded to clean up the mess. To my surprise...the couch was spotless! Thanks Jason, our couch is still new. I am happy to take one for the couch but the carpet is on its own.

Katelyn's 1st hair cut

Katelyn's 1st haircut? I know, you're thinking, she's old enough to have had a few hair cuts by now right? Well, today, Katelyn gave her first hair cut...to me! I was seriously desperate and in my salon waiting for a client. Katelyn was there helping me clean up like she often does. Honestly, I wasn't even nervous. I showed her how to hold the scissors, how to move just one blade when she cut, how to comb it down flat, ect. She did great! I let her cut 8 inches off my hair!!! Thanks Katelyn! Next, I'll teach her how to cut Brent's hair. nice...

Weird Dreams
My name is Linda and I have weird dreams....
During the night, last night, I was dreaming that I was brushing my teeth. I was spitting out my toothpaste like normal, however I needed to spit extra hard for some reason. I woke up and I was spitting......gross. (don't tell anyone K? )
I have a reoccurring dream. I am in my garage backing out when all of the sudden, I press the accelerator to the floor and shoot out quickly. I stomp on the brake and my brakes don't work. I am going really fast and I am about to hit the house behind me, I try to put the car in gear, turn off the engine, nothing works. Just as I am about to crash, I wake up.....weird.
Another reoccurring dream. I have a big piece of bubble gum in my mouth, so big that I can't talk. I try to spit it out but I can't. I try to section it off into a smaller piece because I am embarrassed that I put so much gum in my mouth, and nothing I do works. I can't spit it out. It occurs to me while I am typing....if the toothpaste dream and gum dream were together I'd be fine. =)
I also have a dream where I am back in high school except I know I am married and have kids. I don't remember my schedule or locker combination so I go to the office to get an extra copy. By the time I make it to my first class I am so late it's time for 2nd period. Again, I can't find my schedule and I have to go back to the office for a copy. This repeats all day......strange
I have a dream where I have to talk in church but I am not prepared. I stand up with my scriptures knowing I can talk about something for 10 minutes and start scanning through my book. I can't find one thing I understand or could talk about. I stand there forever flipping through pages and not being able to think of one thing to talk about. I apologize and sit down....dumb
These are just a few of my weird reoccurring dreams. I don't think it means I'm crazy does it?

Off and rolling
I am responding to Marianne's tag...with a twist. I decided to put all the things we say that if taken literally wouldn't make sense.. Here goes:
-cry your eyes out
-knock yourself out
-break a leg
-sleep tight
-you crack me up
-bite the bullet
-get away with murder(except if you are O.J.)hee hee
-on the same page
-apple of my eye
-kick the bucket
-right off the bat
-backseat driver
- the ball is in your court
-behind the 8 ball
-blow the whistle
-call the shots
-he's in left field
-go to bat for someone
-hit below the belt
-take the wild out your sails
-never mind
-get the lead out
-I've got to get this off my chest
my personal favorite:
-holy crap
Feel free to tell me more! Or start a list of your own.
Have a great day!

Remember when....
Today I have been looking back fondly on some nice memories.
I Remember When:
- I slept through the night. The only thing that woke me up was Brent putting him arm around me to snuggle with me. (too sweet, I know)
-I showered every day =) . I still shower, it's just sometimes late, late at night when nobody needs me anymore.
-I told Brent I would never be one of those women who stopped wearing make-up because they weren't going anywhere. Sorry Brent. =I
-I could remember anything like....oh, I forgot.
-I felt sane more than insane.
-my kids didn't think I was an ATM.
-my kids would do anything for a quarter, or if I timed them.
-I thought 30 was REALLY old. Now I am almost closer to 40 than 30.
-I thought it was so hard to have 2 kids, I couldn't imagine how to take care of more. Between Brent and I our laps were full.
-I turned 21. I was finally old enough to gamble, only by this point I realized it was
a waste of money.
-my brakes went out in my car and I cried and cried because it was expensive to fix it.
-when getting my brakes fixed, the headlight also went out, I thought it was the epitome of poor. My parents had a new car every 2 years. I didn't think their headlights ever went out. That's officially when I new I was on my own...and poor.(with Brent, of course)
-we moved in our first apartment with no couch or dinning table, we thought all we needed was love =)...good times.
-5 days later, we realized we needed a couch.
Feel free to send me your fond memories too. It's fun to think about how much things have changed.

Why I don't clean
Last night, I was up late cleaning my bedroom like a mad woman. I took advice from Marianne and did the 27 Fling Boogie. I got in my closet and threw out 27 things, except I think I was up to 40 by the time I went through Brent's stuff. (don't tell him, I don't think he'll miss his ugly favorite shirts!) Consequently, I am dragging today. If I sit down I start to fall asleep. (Here's my point) My Tyler is a snow monkey. He loves it! I think he was frolicking yesterday, he was so happy. Well, I am sitting on my couch and I woke right up and thought I should check on Ty. Sure enough, he was outside throwing snowballs at cars. (actually, for a 5 year old, he has a great arm. He can get the cars on the opposite side of the street. Also, surprisingly, he has impeccable timing.) So, I scolded him, told him to stop blah, blah, blah, and went back inside. Two seconds later I checked on him again...sure enough, he hit a truck on the opposite side of the street. I am pretty sure the truck didn't notice, but I am mortified! If my son hit your car, I apologize! I yelled at him to come inside, he immediately starts into freaking out! He tried to bite me and I flicked his mouth....he wailed! After I did it, I thought, what if someone saw me. It sounded a lot worse than it was. I may need some friends to vouch for me if Child Protective Services knocks on my door. To make s short story long...this is why I don't clean.

Vote! (but if you don't, I won't judge you) :)
I've got to be honest... I wasn't going to vote today. The prospect of long lines and not feeling passionate about any particular issue(except pres. but we no that our vote doesn't REALLY matter). However, patriotism got the better of me. I drove Jared to Oquirrh Middle school this morning for an all-day SBO confrence at BYU. I passed the polling place and decided to go in. No shower, no bra, not a brush for my hair, mind you, naively thinking "I won't see anyone I know". Out of the 20 or so people there, I knew 10 of them. One women was so nice as to say "wow, you clean up nicely" #%&@!! was the name I called her in my head.
God bless America! You know what I mean? I am thankful for the right to vote, I can't believe I almost didn't do it. My dad served in the State Senate for 20 years, I know the differece that a good politicain can make. They are out there(good politicians, I mean). When people start thinking they can't make a difference is when we all suffer. As for the lady who felt the need to insult me, I'll take my dad's advice, "If someone offends you, think of one nice thing about that person." hmmm....here it is,....still thinking......she...no that's not good.....okay. She looks very pretty when she smiles. :) She is very outgoing, and laughs alot. Does 3 things make up for the bad name?

football is over...time to fall back
The day I thought would never come has sadly arrived. The Riverton Little League football season has come to an end. (did that sound sad enough?) Seriously, it was kind of sad because the boys fought so hard to make the play-offs, but they lost today 20-13 to Brighton. I guess that puts them in 4th place which isn't so bad, right? Anyways, just as we were about to start the game, Jared's basketball coach came up to us and said, "are you ready for basketball? We are thinking of doing a few out-of-town tournaments, as well as the league." Do all kids play every sport? Oh well, I wouldn't like being bored. Katelyn signed up for basketball too. She is pretty good, and she loves it....good times.
So, tonight we set the clocks back one hour! I wished I could say I was doing something special now that I finally have more time in a day, but honestly I am looking forward to sleeping in late. Let's hope the kids feel the same way I do. What are all my blog friends going to do with the extra hour? Please don't be an hour early for church!

Happy Birthday Tyler!

Happy Birthday to Tyler! I can hardly believe that TY is 5! It seems like just yesterday he was 4. ha-ha. He has brought so much joy and noise ( I mean happiness) into our home. He's been up since 4:30 so excited. He wanted to see how "tall" he was on our scale. He's 50, he says. He has been telling me all of the things he can do now because he's 5 like climb a mountain, ride a skateboard(no-way) climb all of the fences and play soccer. He loves the snow, he prays every night that it will snow. He likes to play with friends, ride his 2 wheeler, playing Wii, loves his family, likes to play any sport with Jared and Katelyn, does not want to go trick-or-treating and does not like losing or not getting his way. I can't help but have a special place in my heart for him because he is such a mommy's boy and hugs and kisses me all day long.

Searching for inner peace and tranquillity and a nap
I am starting to get this blog thing down. It's kind of fun! Tomorrow is potentially our last football game. (If we lose, no playoffs for us) It's been fun and busy. Brent and I actually went out on a date tonight...by ourselves! It was a lot of fun. We could actually finish a sentence without being interrupted. At least I could, I don't know about Brent. Ha-ha.
Next week, Tyler is turning 5. I can't believe how time flies. He is so sweet, tonight when we came home he said "mom, I can't even believe how much I love you!" AHHHHH :) :) He melts my heart!
So, my pity party is over (thank heavens!). I've been thinking about what to do now. Last night I was talking to a friend/client about life and happiness and stuff and I realized that I am pretty darn happy. I won't get into any details but I am drawing a line in the sand (proverbial) and looking forward not backwards anymore. I've always been able to handle the trials that come my way and come out of it a better person and this time is no different. So there!
I decided that I want to make my bedroom my little sanctuary. That will be my new project. Any suggestions from my blogging buddies? I need a place to relax, read, sleep and ......
My biggest issue is my laundry. Every one's laundry is in my room. I sort it in here and everything. HELP! I also have my treadmill in here, I think I want to leave it, but only if it goes with the new tranquillity. So, I am counting on my friends for suggestions! PLEASE!!! Love ya' all!

Cute kids
So I am embarrassed to say, this is Jason's first portrait. But here are my handsome boys. They look angelic and they are (when they are sleeping). Tyler's big smile came when I said "remember the diaper?" One time, Jared was taking out a stinky diaper in a grocery sack. He started swing it around like doing the hammer throw. The diaper ripped out the bottom and splatted against our house and exploded all over the house and concrete......good times.Wednesday, October 22, 2008
It's a great day in my imagination
Every once in awhile, we all need a reminder that we are a valuable member of society, that we are loved and appreciated, and what we do makes a difference. I think I am having one of those days. I decided a long time ago that I wouldn't look for personal validation from my kids because let's face it....it ain't comin' from them. But today I am going to imagine what that would sound like.
-Mom, thanks for doing my laundry and caring that I don't smell bad.
-Thanks for caring about my dental hygiene, I'm glad you remind me to brush my teeth twice a day.
-What would I do without you mom, I am grateful for the ride to football, piano, school because I missed the bus, ect. (feel free to insert your own activity)
-Thank you for telling me to shower and change my underwear.
-Thank you for helping me with homework.
-Thank you for the countless hours of worry and prayers on my behalf.
-Mom, can I talk to you about something? (that would make my day Jared)
-Thanks for feeding me delicious food. I don't like carrots but if you say they are good for me, I know it is true.
-Mom, I want to go out with my friends, how could I earn $10 to pay for that?
-Thank you for the clean bathroom! That mirror sparkles!
-Can I say family prayer tonight? (all of you with little ones, enjoy that they want to say the prayer)
-Mom, I'm bored. What can I do for you?
Aren't my imaginary kids cool? In all seriousness, my kids are pretty good. I'm probably just feeling a little sorry for myself today. Oh well. Tomorrow will be better right?

Luck or is it?
I am sorry about the lapse in blog posting. I was so sick last week, Brent took 2 days off work to help me with the kids.(Big thanks to Brent!) Laying around does have an upside, it gave me a chance to think about all of my blessings and all what I have to be thankful for. My favorite quote of the week came from Jared who said, "wow mom, you are really pale can you take me to Sports Authority?" Such sympathy and care, it was amazing! Thankfully I don't get sick often.
Now I am playing catch up with cleaning and laundry, just think, if it was already done what would I do today? I am lucky.
Speaking of lucky, last week Brent's dad fell 10 1/2 feet to a concrete floor. Some how he landed on his feet and fell sideways. The only problems are relatively minor compared to death or being broken all over. So we are thankful for our blessings.

Math, shmath
I have been trying to help Jared with his homework. I got a little cocky last year because I could do 7th grade algebra. This year has been a little harder. I must admit, 8th grade geometry is kickin' my butt! I don't understand it at all. In my defense, it has been 20 years since I did it, and I didn't understand it then either. My pride was getting the better of me. I've been trying to figure it out for 2 hours and I decided that it truly is better to be humble...so I quit.
I am excited for the long weekend. Does anyone have any fun ideas to occupy my kids so they don't kill each other?

These are a few of my favorite things
WE WON< WE WON< WE WON!!!!
Did I mention we beat Bingam Saturday! It was a great game, it was 6-0. Jared did really well and Katelyn cheered her lungs out!
It's kind of sad, I have realized since I started blogging just how mundane my life is. Every day it's the same stuff. I'm not complaining, it's just become apparent that I don't have much to say.
So in order to keep my blog fun (for me) I am just going to have to be creative. Since it's my blog, I am going to tell some things you may not know about me.
-I finished High School early on home study because I was going to Beauty school. During "hair school" I wanted to quit but the song from Grease would run through my head...."Beauty school drop-out" So, I finished. I am so glad I didn't quit, I'm kind of embarrassed about the reason why.:)
-Brent and I grew up in the same ward. Not smart if you are looking to score big on wedding gifts. You need at least 2 wards to draw from. lol
-That is the first time I typed " lol". I might start using it more often.
-My favorite colors are purple, burgundy and navy blue (not all together).
-My favorite book is usually whatever I am reading at the moment. But I always like "the Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis, Gifts of the Spirit by D. Crowther. Last year I read the Book of Mormon 4 times, this year I am only on my 2nd time. :(
-My favorite sport is whatever season it is. And my favorite teams are Jared's and Katelyn's.
-My favorite holiday is Christmas. I love how it puts more people in a good mood. I love the anticipation of Christmas morning, and seeing the kids happy unwrapping gifts.
-My favorite move is "Evita". Seriously....with Madonna. I've seen it probably over 150 times.
-When I grow up I want to be a fun Grandma and maybe teach Seminary.
-When I was little, I wanted to be a mom, a psychiatrist and for a little while I wanted to study paranormal psychology(now that just freaks me out).
-I love Riverton. I will probably always live here.
Okay, enough for now. I hope all my blog friends will share some stuff about them that I may not know.

Week in review
We have had such a busy week! I thought I'd share a few highlights.
First, let me say that I never want to be alone in this world(without my Brent). He's almost home from Cedar City...not a moment too soon! I rely on him so much for support. Not only is he a great dad but it is no fun watching the news without him.(our fav pastime is news heckling) So that being said, this week was chaos and mayhem.
I had to cram all of my work in to two days. I don't know how mom's do it...I mean work full-time and manage the house. I only work part-time, at home, with a flexible schedule and I am still 3 weeks behind. One of my favorite sayings is "I am so far behind, I thought I was is first place."
Tyler had a field trip to Cornbelly's Maze. I took the opportunity to take all the kids with me. We had a blast! I had never been there, it is a little pricey but well worth the $3 entrance fee with field trips. (normally $10.50 per adult) We spent 4 hours playing. The big kids went through the "David Archuletta" corn maze and stood on the microphone. I guess that is cool. They have a little sand box-like area filled with dried corn. Tyler and Jason had so much fun until Jason wouldn't stop putting corn in his mouth. It really grossed me out when Jared was in there walking around in his socks. I don't like to touch his socks, let alone put them in my mouth! We all picked out pumpkins. Tyler decided he wanted the smallest green one with a stem that he could find. As you can imagine, they are rare. We did finally find one, it looked like a little maraca.
Our busy football practice week ended with a pep-rally earlier tonight. Katelyn was head cheerleader and she was on top of the pyramid. I was so proud. Not even 45 degree weather with a stiff wind would have kept me away. (I just realized that you can't hear the sarcasm in my typing) :) Then it was on to the Riverton High football game, they lost to Bingam 48-21. Let's hope our team is a little better tomorrow. Did I mention the big game is tomorrow?
We went to dinner with my mother-in-law 2 times this week. It was a lot of fun. My kids don't get to see her as often as we would like, so it is great to get together. Thanks Sandy! We were at Winger's and had a cute little waitress. Jason fell in love with her. One time he was watching her walk away when all of the sudden he stuck his hand to his mouth and blew her a kiss. It was crazy because Tyler didn't start doing that until he was two. :) It is seriously bred in them to be attracted to girls! Jared would try to touch the waitress as she would walk by, and it just so happened that his little hand was butt height. We apologized many times for him. After he was about three, he liked cars more than girls. I am still waiting for that to happen to Tyler.
All-in-all, I'd say we've had a great week. I love the weekends! I hope all my blog friends have a great weekend! Love ya all!
(Oh Yeah, for my neighbor friends, if you haven't seen Jill Bearden's blog, her baby is almost as cute as my kids!)

My daughter, my pride, my joy, my saving grace
I need to go to Shelly's so she can help me get a purple silver and black blog page. (Go Riverton!!) Can you feel the excitement? 2 1/2 days 'till the big game. How am I suppose to sleep tonight?Hmmm.
Tonight we went to Training Table(mmmmm) with my mother in law. It was pretty fun even when Jason started to play the "I'll drop everything, you pick it up" game. It's great to be with and have fun with our family. They are nice people who know you and love you anyway.
During the night last night, Jason was screaming like crazy. I let him go for a minute then decided to get up and make him a bottle. It was 4:00 a.m. I went to the family room where Katelyn had the T.V. on and was making the bottle. I asked her what she was doing when she told me "mom, he started crying at 2:00 and so I brought him out here and watched signing time with him(his favorite show. sign language, music playing ect.). After it was over I made him a bottle and put him back to bed. He stayed for a little while and then started crying again. So I am going to try another bottle and put him back to bed" I asked her why she didn't wake up me or Brent and she said, "you were sick last night(a little nausea, not preg) and I knew dad had to drive all day so I thought I would take care of it myself." I almost started to cry! Can you believe how sweet and thoughtful she is? Jason is so close to her and will cuddle with her on the couch. I love seeing the bond they have. I am constantly reminded that I am a lucky mom. I have always said that everyone needs a Katelyn. Love ya' Kay-Kay!
Hey, Have you heard? Boomerangs are coming back! (For those of you who can't see me falling off my chair laughing hysterically, just understand that everything is funny when your exhausted!)

Rivalry week (little league style)
It's a big football week for us! Jared's team plays our rival, Bingam. Katelyn is head cheerleader this week(it means that she calls out the cheers, says READY! the other girls say OKAY! oh yeah... and she' on top of the pyramid.) Last year some of the Bingam fans were rude to our cheerleaders so I get to be with the girls this week to make sure they are okay. It's one thing to be heckled by kids but quite another when it is parents. I don't really expect any problems most people aren't insane.(I hope)
I'm out of time .....I'll post again later. Bye.

Random thoughts at 4:00 A.M.
I've had a bit of an insomnia problem from time to time lately. So I am going to tell you what keeps me awake at night. Maybe it's diet coke....hmmm....doubtful.
I keep having weird re-occurring dreams. Tonight I was dreaming that I was staying at a hotel and I needed to leave quickly. I started to get out my luggage and found all these weird things that I packed for my trip. I had baby toys that Jason hasn't played with for months. I had stacks of winter clothes for my entire family but near as I could tell, only Brent and I were there. (and it was hot there) I had 10-15 sippie cups with no lids. Still, no baby.I had two extra scooters for Tyler. Still, no Tyler. I start packing and wonder why and how I brought all of this stuff and how the heck was I to get it home? For some reason, I need to leave in a hurry. I get all packed and I can't find Brent anywhere. Then it's like the hotel turned into a circular maze. Not only can I not find Brent, now I can't get back to my room to find all of my crazy stuff! The only reason this is weird to me is that I've had this dream 7 or 8 times in the past 3 months. It's always a different hotel, and different stuff but same concept. Maybe I need more "lovin". he-he
I have to get up at 7:00 to take my car in to get new brakes. I guess I'll try to sleep again.

Things I am excited about!!!

This is the most current thing I have to call a family picture. It was taken almost one year ago, on Tyler's b-day.
Do you ever feel like a dork? I do, only two or three times a day. But to expose my dorkiness even more, I decided to post a few things that I have been excited about lately.
-I have been doing some continuing education for my job. Mean boss, she's a slave driver. But I am really excited about some new techniques that I have picked up with hair cutting, color and up-do styling! I am blessed to have a job that I absolutely LOVE, I would do it for free if I could.
- I have been way excited for General Conference. I need a little kick in the "booty" from time to time. (okay, daily)
-My sister had a baby today. I am way excited for her, it is her 2nd little girl. Her kids are adorable!
-I'm also excited the I am learning how to blog. I posted this pic. I can't edit it to fit the right size, but I am posting it anyway.
-I just signed up for http://www.facebook.com/ it is pretty fun. It's like a High School reunion. I have been back in touch with some really good friends that I haven't heard from in 15 years.
-I am excited to be a mom. My kids are a stressful yet really fun stages. Jared in Jr. high. Katelyn in 6th grade. Ty learning to read and Jason learning everything.
-I am excited about on-line bill pay. It has made my life simpler.
-I am excited for the Holiday season. I love Christmas. I've already started shopping. So much fun! Oh yeah...I forgot to mention on-line shopping.

so much to do...so little time
At the beginning of yet another week it gives me a moment to reflect upon all of my hopes and dreams for accomplishing great things this week such as: perfecting my family, making my home immaculate, properly attending to my husbands needs (like clean socks), mastering Beethoven's 5Th Symphony on the piano, re-reading the 4 gospels, exercising 45 min a day, teaching Tyler to read, re-learning 8Th grade Geometry, weeding my backyard, oh! and let's not forget a little "me" time...I am reminded that I am no longer 19 years old with tons of ambition and energy. Nor am I 25 with unrealistic expectations and dreams. I am a 34 year old mother of 4 with one kid on her hip, one hanging on her ankle and thank heaven, two kids at school. So the best I am hoping for is to not go crazy or get too much farther behind (and maybe a shower). And you know what?!? I am completely happy with that.
So, Saturday night, Jared had a party for his 14th birthday. He had friends over to BBQ and play volley ball and night games. Our whole family was out back and it was funny to see the boys in one corner and the girls in another. All except Jason and Tyler. They were right in the middle of the girls laughing and playing with them. Brent looked over at Jared and said "Your little brothers are doing better than you!" So funny! Not so funny is Katelyn who hung with the boys. Grrrr. They are all growing up so fast. Oh ya'! Tyler has a new word. He would get ready to hit the volley ball and say "look mom, this is pro-ish".
I've been thinking...I really need a hobby. Something I really enjoy or something Brent and I could do together. Any suggestions? I'm thinking line dancing.(sooooo just kidding)

7 things you may not know about the Bartons
So, I'm answering Marianne's tag about the seven things weird about my family. But I'm also including things that maybe no one knows about our family.
-First of all I love my husband....I think he hung the moon. That being said, he has a quirk or two. If he wears a shirt for a little while and it's not "dirty" he won't hang it back in the closet because it isn't clean. However, he won't put it in the dirty clothes because it isn't dirty. Hence we have the "not clean, not dirty pile".
-I have a tie problem...not a Ty problem...a tie problem. I LOVE to buy ties. My husband must have 50 or so yet I still buy more, in my defense, I always find them CHEAP CHEAP.
-Brent and I like to heckle the news anchors. My favorite thing is Mark Eubanks weather report. He's such a dork! My best "Eubankism" is on time he said after lots of rain that "the water helps us but not in a good way."
-We still operate on a windows 98 system. (yes I know it's 2008)
-One thing no one maybe knows about me is that I play the piano and the flute. And I'm dang good. (no one knows that I am humble)
-My name in Linda Barton and I'm a diet cokeaholic. I drink a twelve pack of dc EVERY day. Thats my confession. I don't plan to change anytime soon.
-I don't ever put anything away in the same place twice. This stems from my inability to decide the perfect place for my stuff. Apparently I haven't found the perfect place for ANYTHING!!!
This is a sneak peak into my crazy life. Hope you enjoyed it!
Love ya blog family!

Pick up lines from Jared!!!
I thought this was "blog-worthy"...you decide.
Jared was telling me about a book called "pick-up lines that don't work". Here are a few funny ones:
-Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk by again?
-If you were a sandwich from McDonalds, you'd be McGorgeous.
-I tried to say something nice about you for every star in the sky, but then I ran out of stars.
-Aren't you tired? Because you've been running through my mind all day.
-Life without you is like a broken pencil...........pointless
-I lost my phone number, can I have yours?
-I lost my library card, but can I check you out?
-Hey angel, hope you didn't hurt yourself falling from heaven.
-Guy: Can you hold something for me?
Girl: Sure
(Guy grabs girl's hand)
Guy: Thanks
-If I was a lamp, would you turn me on?
-You're like the sun because you brighten my day.
-Are you here to give me a ticket? Because you've got fine written all over you.
I don't know about you, but I'm glad I'm not dating anymore!

"Tylerisms"
Tyler is going to 2 preschools this year. One for Tyler... one for mommy.(j/k) Anyways, we have always known that he was a big kid in a little body.. I am continually realizing this with his "Tylerisms". One time he was playing the Wii and he said "this guy is my arch nemesis". Brent and I laughed sooo hard! Once in a very serious voice he said "I find that very interesting". Today he came up to me and said "mom, look! this is fabulous!" Or one day he was practicing how to say ridiculous. I can't even imitate it...but too funny.
I could go on and on. Each and every time he takes off his shirt, he arches his back as far as he can and pounds his chest like a gorilla. A few months ago, He jumped off of the counter. I started to yell at him saying "Ty, if you do that again, I am going to spank you." He was walking away from me but he bent forward, looked at me from between his legs and while laughing said "spank me now"! My personal favorite was when he said "Abso-freakin-lutly".
He doesn't seem to have the vocabulary of a preschooler or have a 4 year olds' taste in music. On sunday I told Ty that we were singing his favorite song in sacrament meeting and he said "Saints of Los Angeles by Montley Crew"? It was actually I am a Child Of God.
One thing is for certain. Life would be boring without our Ty Ty.

A Bloggerrific Day!
It's a bloggin' great day at the Barton house! Today my baby... my tiny little Jared turns 14. When did I get old enough to have a 14 year old? Just one question. How come on a childs birth day we don't celebrate mom? She did some pretty hard work that day. Not to mention each and every day since then. Just a thought.
Katelyn and Tyler are both at birthday parties for their friends. Katelyn has such a busy social calander. In 2 months I think she's been to at least 7 birthday parties. It's great to be a girl!
It's kind of a boring blog day, sorry. I'll try to get better.

I call this OCD combined with ADD with D-U-M-B
This is a scary insite into my brain. Have you ever heard about my pantry? Nine years ago, we built our lovely house with a ginormous pantry. Since I didn't know the best way to organize it, I threw a lot of everything in there to see what i most liked to have in there. As you can imagine it is a huge mess. Every so often I figure it is time to tackle the pantry. Since I don't know the best way to organize it, of course, I start with books(meaning "How To Organize" books). I never seem to find THE BEST way so then I pull everything out and sort it into boxes. After staring at the boxes for days, I start putting a few things back into the pantry and since I don't know the best way to organize it (are you seing a pattern here?) I start to obsess and over think pantry storage systems. Finally after days of boxes on the kitchen floor, I put the ablolute essentials back in the pantry, put lids on the boxes and carry them downstairs. I have repeated this process several times and still don't know the best way to organize my pantry. Is there any hope for me?

Ready, Set...Blog!!
So, I am finally a blogger. Here I go.
We are an average family with a crazy life filled with chaos and mayhem. With 3 boys and just 1 girl, Katelyn and I are seriously out numbered. But I am finding out that a house full of boys isn't too bad. For example, the other day Tyler yelled from the bathroom "MOM!!!!!!! I accidently dropped my underwear in the toilet!!" Hmmm. 'How did that happed?" I asked. "I don't know. I was trying to put them on and they just fell in the toilet." I started to hurry to the bathroom. "did you flush them down the toilet?" "No" He said "I just grabbed them out!!!" Whew. Now here's my point. If by chance a girl dropped her underwear in the toilet she would scream really loud and NEVER would she grab them out. I'm glad he took care of that by himself.
