This is my new baby boy:
His name is ELLIOT HARRY SCHULTZ
Born on March 28, 2012 at 1:40pm.
He weighed 7lbs 6oz. and was 21 inches long.
I am sooooooo excited to finally have my boy!
Now for the long version.
March 27th routine Dr. visit in the morning, but I mention that I was concerned about the baby being transverse since I could feel his kicks on the sides of my tummy instead of the top. The Dr rushed me into the ultra-sound room to check it out. She right away could see that the baby was in deed transverse (laying parallel to the ground in my tummy instead of head down he was bottom down). I immediately started to cry and told her how much I don't want to have a c-section. So she gets on the phone with some of the Doctors that are in the medical group to find one that will try to turn the baby (Version) at 41 weeks. She finds one that will... I start to cry again, this time for joy and hope. The doctor that says he will try is my favorite doctor, Dr Gray. So we schedule the version for the very next morning. If it works we will induce, so the baby doesn't turn back to transverse. If it doesn't work we will have to schedule a c-section.
I was transverse before in my pregnancy at 35 weeks and I tried these chair exercises, where I had my knees on the chair and laid my elbows on the ground so I was inclined with my head down for 15 minutes, and I don't know if this is what did it or if baby just turned on his own, but it worked then and so I tried it again, twice... I also received a blessing. When I went into the hospital for the version they did an ultra-sound and baby had turned! I was thrilled. So we started the inducing process.
Everything happened soooo fast... It's kinda a blur
9:30 I got hooked up to the Pitocin and the IV. (dilated to a 2 when I arrived)
10:30 dilated to a 3.
10:45 dilated to a 4. starting to feel the contractions but need to get the whole bag of fluid in me before the anesthesiologist will do the epidural.
11:30 Contractions are getting stronger, where I can't read my magazine through them.
12:30 Anesthesiologist arrives and puts the needle in my back. (My left legs jerks when he does it and temporarily goes numb- he said he scraped a nerve... a little scary)
12:50 Numb, can't feel contractions, but starting to feel lots of pressure, so they check me and I am dilated to a 9.5/10.
1:40 I push the baby out and it was not completely pain free. I felt a burning sensation. Like my crouch was on fire.
2-4 (Golden Hours) the hospital does this awesome thing where for the first 2 hours of the babies life they leave you and your spouse alone, to just bond and do skin to skin time. It was amazing. I loved it so much. Having a baby this time around seemed even more special and miraculous.
We left the hospital the following day at 5pm. We could not leave fast enough. I felt like a caged animal, with randoms just popping in constantly taking my vitals or the babies vitals or drawing my blood, asking about the nursing... which has been going great this time around.
Adjusting to 3 is tricky. I wish I had one of those number counters they have at the post office, where you take a number and wait for you number to be called, cause it always seems like the girls need something from me at the same time Elliot is crying, which can be stressful.
Recovery has been chill. I am not myself yet, but see light at the end of the tunnel.
