Blogger Precautions (Please Read!)

I found this on my friend's blog and thought it was great advice. I have had this on my mind lately, and I've seen it a lot on the news. It's pretty scary how much people can find out about you just from reading your blog. I have been a little worried and have noticed that a few friends have made their blogs private (something I don't really want to do). Here are a few other ideas to secure your blog. I though I'd share the tips I found:

Go into "my settings" and then go to "Settings", select "Basic" and it will say: "Add your blog to our listings?" SELECT NO (this means that when you update your blog it does not show up on the blogger homepage or any other page as being updated - very important)

Also on that same page it will say: Let search engines find your blog? SELECT NO (this means that search engines can not bookmark your site at all -important if you are a family)(Scroll down and click Save Changes)

Next go to "Comments" (still in settings) it will say: Who Can Comment? SELECT REGISTERED USERS - includes OpenID (this means that only people who can comment are those with gmail accounts - or who have active blogs open - this helps eliminate computers from spamming)

On the same page it will say: Enable comment moderation? SELECT YES (this means that no comments will post to our blog with out you approving them first - this way you can axe anything before it shows up)

Same Page- It will say: Show word verification for comments? SELECT YES (this is super annoying, but important to stop spam and deter unwanted comments because it's an extra step) Scroll down and click Save Changes

LAST THING- Never mention last names, show your address or town and try to not tell the full names of anyone else on your blog either. Also don't post birthday specifics or when you'll be out of town. All of that will just lead to a home alone movie where the burglars find out when you are leaving. Leave that kind of stuff to personal emails to family or blog about it when you get home. Also try to respect friends privacy by not posting photos that could embarrass. The Internet is really quite insane. Once it's on the web it's ALWAYS on the web so post with courtesy and care. All in all these are safe blogging tips. the first few are really important as they block the search engines from seeing your blog!

I just wanted to add that if you do not choose to secure your blog as mentioned, could you family and friends please only put our first names on your blog lists? I would really appreciate it. Please feel free to share these tips with your friends & family so that we can all be safe online.

What UP!

Hey Everyone!

I really don't have any news - just HELLO!

We've had the sick bug at our house. Andrew mainly. He started throwing up on Friday and has vomited at least once everyday since. Do you think I need to take him to the dr? I think if he's not better by tomorrow, I'll call. Poor little guy. He's so pathetic! He hasn't had any energy - sleeps a lot.

The rest of us are pretty much fine.

Hope ya'll are fantastic!

Long awaited pictures!

A lot of people have asked for pics of my paint projects so here they are! : )

The brown paint.

See, I need a splash of green here. I was thinking of doing 2 big pots on either side of fireplace in a green or red with green.

My cute bench with the cushion I made! We made cushions to go on all the chairs for my bar stools and table chairs too.

My favorite curtain in the kitchen, don't you love red toile? I do!

A close-up of the curtains by my fireplace.

More detail on the brown wall.

The Red Bay

Andrew & Matthew wanted their pics taken too!

Spring, Spring, Spring!

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to Spring this year! We have had so much snow and so much cold that if Spring doesn't come tomorrow, I'm gonna scream! Thankfully, according to the calendar, Spring officially begins. I hope to see warmer days soon!

Here are some pics from last year's beautiful spring. We were enjoying a lovely day at the animal farm at Thanksgiving Point. It's amazing how much the kids have grown in only 1 year!

Matthew, Loving every minute!

Andrew, hating his pony ride!

Aw, Matthew!

Elise, petting the cow

Elise, so sweet!

Andrew, handsome as ever posing in the tulips!

Remembering Harry

Yesterday morning at 5:45, our grandpa, Harry Davis passed in his sleep. Harry married my grandma, Anne, over 30 years ago. Together, they square danced and watched lots of sports, and rescued dogs!

Some of my fondest childhood memories include Harry and Grandma Anne. They lived in California until the late 80's when they settled in Pahrump, Nevada.

When they came to visit, Harry always let my sister, Leanna, and I comb and style his hair. We looked forward to decorating his head with lots of bows and barrettes!

I'm sure I ate my first prime rib dinner with Harry and Anne because they always invited us to eat at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and we always had prime rib. I was taught at a young age that the end cut is the best!

I also won my first Keno game underage with Harry. Every time we went to eat at the Golden Nugget, he let us fill out a Keno card and he would pay for the game. Lucky me, I won!

Harry and Anne were two of the most generous and kind hearted people I knew. Every time we came to visit, they made sure all our needs were met. Grandma french braided our hair and made us yummy food and grandpa had fun activities for us.

Harry will be missed, but we are so happy he is reunited with his sweetheart.

Just to see . . .

Ok, so, I don't mind Rome, but in my heart of hearts, I truly desire to be a French girl. So, I re-took the quiz and experimented with the questions. There were 2 questions that I toyed with - when I originally took the quiz, it was hard deciding which. So, I changed the one answer from "opera and dancing with sweetie" to "poetry, fashion shows and wine" and I changed the other answer "incredible food" to "lots of art and architecture." Now, I do love attending the opera and dancing with my sweetie, but I also enjoy poetry readings and haute couture and wish I could enjoy the wine. If there is any place I have ever been to where I was tempted the most with word of wisdom, it was France. It just seemed so romantic and the "French" thing to do. I never did though. I stayed strong. And, the other answers ... I like both "incredible food" AND "art and architecture," so I feel this question was unfair. Both are available in Paris. Anyway, by changing those two answers, I got Paris!!!!

I REALLY Belong in Paris!

Stylish and expressive, you were meant for Paris. The art, the fashion, the wine! Whether you're enjoying the cafe life or a beautiful park . . . you'll love living in the most chic place on earth.

Both Rome and Paris offer art, architecture, food and romance. And, I wouldn't mind living in either city.

I Belong in Rome

You're a big city soul with a small town heart which is why you're attracted to the romance of Rome. Strolling down picture perfect streets, cappuccino in hand, and gorgeous Italian people - could life get any better?

A 100 Things About Ben

Since I wrote a huge list of things about me, I thought it appropriate to come up with some things about Ben. Ben helped me with most of the list, but then I wracked my brain trying to think of more - to make a 100. My head hurts now!

1. Ben is the 5th of 6 children in his family.
2. His birthday is Mar 24, 1977.
3. He served a mission to Knoxville, Tennessee
4. His hair started falling out when he was 17 years old.
5. He has a general contractor's license.
6. He has a real estate license.
7. He and his cousin, Jake, once swapped dates while on a date because they liked the other girl better.
8. He quit piano lessons because his teacher was mean to him, so he then taught himself to play. (He's pretty good too!)
9. One time, he and his cousin again, brought dates to the mall. They laughed so hard and so long at something that when they finally looked up, their dates were gone. Then they laughed even harder for another 10 minutes because their dates ditched them!
10. He has built around 50 LDS churches across the USA.
11. He loves to watch airplanes take off and land.
12. He wanted to be a pilot in the Air Force.
13. He used to dream he was a Navy Seal and one time he punched a hole in the wall during a Navy Seal dream in the middle of the night.
14. He has flown an airplane before -- Alarus CH 2000 (I think that's what it's called!)
15. He owns a Harley-Davidson but doesn't ride it nearly enough!
16. He loves fast cars, motorcycles and airplanes.
17. When he wants to do something - anything, he usually goes all out.
18. Richard G. Scott taught him and 11 other missionaries for about 2 hours during a zone leader conference (or something??), then he ran into him at the hair doctor just after he returned. Elder Scott asked him what he was doing there and he said he was losing his hair, and Elder Scott responded, while combing his fingers through his nice, thick head of hair, "It happens to the best of us!"
19. He broke his thumb, wrist and pinkie.
20. He smashed his right middle finger once.
21. He broke 3 ribs while playing football. A 10 or 12 year old tackled him and rolled on him funny.
22. He had an ulcer in middle school.
23. When he had his wisdom teeth taken out, he woke up midway through the surgery and ripped out all of the equipment in his mouth and told the nurse she was beautiful when really she was butt ugly! They gave him more drugs and he had to have stitches in his mouth.
24. He likes all sports, but especially basketball and football.
25. He worked at Staples, the movie theater and Home Town Buffet for 1 day each.
26. Mostly everything he has succeeded at, he has attempted 3 times. The third time is the charm with him!
27. He broke off an engagement.
28. He asked me to marry him after only dating 3 weeks exclusively. Our first date was Jan 8 and he proposed on Feb 14.

36. He likes ALL outdoor activities.
37. He goes fishing with his dad and 3 brothers every Summer.
38. We have an annual family camp-out in his parents backyard (but we like to camp in the great outdoors too!)
39. His dad wanted to teach his boys how to work so he started a lawn mowing business. The boys earned extra money for their missions by mowing laws Spring through Fall.
40. He thinks it would be cool to be a construction consultant - to be paid purely for his knowledge.
41. He also likes the idea of becoming an architect and designing LDS churches.
42. He has a very eclectic music taste. He really likes a lot of stuff from the 80's and early 90's but finds good in all types. He listens to John Denver, REO Speedwagon, Kenny Loggins, Journey, George Michael, Movie Sound Tracks, Country, Rap (Eminem), Classical and Church music. He likes the oldies too. Any many, many other artists.
43. Jake made us 10 cds with 15 different songs on each disk of the best songs and love songs they both listened to for our wedding. They were our favorite cds until we've gradually lost each one. Sad story. Wish he would make us some more!
44. He used to be obsessed with Elvis Presley. He impersonated him once for a talent contest in 9th grade. And he had his whole room decorated in Elvis memorabilia.
45. One time he egged his friend's ex-girlfriend's house with his friends because she was bad mouthing all of them at school - telling blatant lies.
46. After they egged the house, they went and pulled down over 1,000 election signs and dumped them in the high school parking lot.

50. We were married on Friday, the 13th!

53. It seems like everytime he plays basketball now, he sprains his ankle. So, he always wears a brace to prevent any "accidents."
54. He is a true JAZZ fan and BYU fan.
55. His graduation ceremony only lasted 45 minutes because of an impending storm. Big, dark clouds started rolling in just as they began. Their graduation ceremony was held on the football field because they had so many students. 45 minutes to read off almost 1,000 names and hear the speeches from the valedictorian and salutatorian! I wish I could've been there. It was probably the best graduation ever!

57. He loves to golf.
58. He installed satelite dishes when we were in college.

70. He's the bomb when it comes to breakfast cooking.

72. He cooked for me all during our engagement. I never cooked once. Then, right after we were married, I made tacos for dinner and he stopped cooking on a regular basis. It was a huge disappointment for me. But he says, it's because I cooked so much better than him. Yeah right?!

75. We plan to become SCUBA certified someday.
76. He loves fish. To eat and to watch.

The 2nd time was with me and our little family. And, the 3rd time was with just me for one of our anniversaries. He is slowly falling in the love with the place!
89. He wrecked a car once while dragging state st in SLC during his high school days. He ran a yellow and collided with another person turning left at the yellow. T-boned.
90. At the hospital, in the delivery room with Elise, the doctor told him to sit down because he was at the point of fainting. They gave him a mask and he rallied till the bitter end!
91. He broke up with his girlfriend on his mission but then got back together with her a week later because he wasn't receiving cookies and care packages anymore.
92. He came home from his mission to go directly to the funeral home to his Grandpa's viewing, then, much to his mother's dismay, he left to go clubbing with his cousin, Jake.

94. He likes water sports.
95. At first I didn't think he was an RM so I wouldn't date him. I could never find his "g" line. Then, one day, at work, he said something about his mission in TN and I was immediately enraptured.
96. We kissed on our first date. We both swore to ourselves we wouldn't kiss that night. I knowing that kissing on the first date never led anywhere and he was only looking for a "friend." But the thing was, after watching Happy Gilmore, he turned off the lights, lit some candles and put on George Michael. How sexy is that? I could not resist! And neither could he. The kiss was electrifying!
97. He is very kind hearted and sensitive.
98. He has 52 first cousins.
99. He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
100. He's the best-est husband a girl could ask for!

Good Things

A New Favorite Color

Although orange is and will forever be my favorite color, I absolutely love lime green! I love how Pottery Barn and other home furnishings and decor stores are incorporating this sassy color. I was looking at my brown walls on either side of my fireplace last night thinking I need a splash of color -- what better color than lime green!

A New Book

I started a new series. For all Jane Austen fans, these are must reads.

Fitzwilliam Darcy: A Gentleman
by Pamela Aiden
There are 3 books in the series. I finished the 2nd today and am beginning the 3rd today. They are good. It is fun to read Darcy's perspective on Pride and Prejudice. The 2nd book kind of drags on and on, but I'm looking forward to the 3rd book where he and Elizabeth finally get together. Yes, it takes 3 books to tell the same story Austen told in 1. But, Aiden adds to the story and unfolds the mystery of Darcy in a delightful and addictive manner.
A New Day
We had a delightful weekend with Daddy home. We made a day trip to Pocatello, Idaho. For those of you who are from Pocatello, I am truly sorry. It was a dreary, depressed town in the middle of nowhere. I hope I never return! Unfortunately, we travelled on a dismal day with much precipation. Perhaps a clear blue sky with the sun shining would make the place more desirable, but I doubt it!
We went up and back on Saturday morning. Later that evening, we left the kids with a baby-sitter and went out. And, Sunday was even better. Matthew has reached the peak of terrible two's and Ben was there to help out and share some of the burden during sacrament. AHHH!

Something New

Just catching up on the last few days. We travelled to Logandale last weekend and visited with my mom. We also went into Boulder City and had a nice visit with my sisters and their family. The kids were in heaven to play with their cousins! Then, on Sunday, we drove up to St. George to meet Ben there!! YAY! We are so excited and relieved that dad is closer to us. We can go down there and he can come up here in a heart beat! The kids were so glad to have dad around. None of them wanted to sit by me at the restaurant. At this fairly large booth, Ben was squished in with all 3 kids on one side! And I sat by my lonesome on the other side! Finally, Matthew decided to join me. We just love him and we miss him when he's working out of town. But, we know this is not forever. It's worth it to sacrifice now so that we can have him home more in the future.

My cameras are still broke. : ( I need to buy another one. Ben thinks we oughta get a serious camera - one that's big so it's hard to lose! Or break! I agree. My sister's camera is awesome! When we were in Hawaii, it rained a lot. She took pictures of the kids and you could see raindrops in the pics! I want one like hers.

I finally took my car to the garage yesterday, and I won't get it back until Friday. Now when I drive around, people won't think I'm a terrible driver because of the huge dent on my rear. It will be just like new again! YAY!

Loves!
