Snowed In
Well, if my camera were working properly, I would have loads of pictures to share of our snow storm. I think, today, we had at least a foot, maybe more (and I'm not exaggerating this time), of snow. It was like the time my family got snowed in on Beaver Mountain, well, almost. Ben shovelled our walks at least two times today trying to keep the snow from piling up too badly, but there is still a ton of snow. We have three windows in our great room that are pretty high up. Our walls are almost 18 feet and the windows I'm referring to are on the top section, probably at least 16 feet up. Anyway, Ben and I looked up at the windows and it looked like a snow globe that had been shaken up! There were huge flakes of snow whirling around. It was really beautiful. Luckily, we didn't have to go anywhere. And, I don't know how anyone without four wheel drive could. So, we stayed in and made sugar cookies and decorated them. The kids went out and played in the snow for quite awhile with Ben. They started to build an igloo.
The funniest thing happened. Our neighbor boy, who is probably close to 12 years old, is the most helpful and kindest neighbor of all. He is always looking for opportunities to serve. There is an elderly couple who live across the street from us and they have a pretty large drive. It was piling up with snow, so Landon decided to go scrape it for them. He began by scraping a long line up the right side of the drive. About half way up his path, he fell to the ground on his back and just laid there. Ben and I were watching from our office window the entire time, laughing and knowing he was never going to finish by himself. So, he laid there for at least five minutes, jumped up, picked up his shovel and walked home. Not ten minutes later, he was back and after maybe 2 shovels, he collapsed to the ground again. This time, when he left, he never returned. So, the poor neighbors, are trapped in their house. I guess we could go shovel it for them, but, really, that would be a way too nice and neighborly thing to do!!! ; ) Instead, maybe we'll call one of our neighbors with a snow plow attached to their 4-wheeler or one of the neighbors with a snow blower to go over there.
Oh, and one more thing . . . where are all the snow plows? Not one showed up in our neighborhood today! Crazy!

Great Book Club Read
The Ladies Auxiliary by Tova Mirvis
I received this book as a white elephant book exchange at my book club Christmas party on Tuesday night. I finished it today and I really, really liked it! It reminded me of the hypocrisy within our own religion and community. The general themes in this book are universal. It's definitely a keeper. It made me think about how I am as a person. And, how I want to be less like the Ladies Auxiliary and more like Batsheva, the outsider.
I definitely recommend this one.
REVIEW From Publishers Weekly
The world of this confident, insightful debut novel is the tightly knit Orthodox Jewish community of Memphis, Tenn., a social structure that unravels when an unconventional New York convert settles there with her five-year-old daughter. Newly widowed Batsheva Jacobs is both shockingly modern and fervently spiritual. She lovingly raises her daughter, Ayala, in the Orthodox tradition, but she sings loudly and enthusiastically at shul (perhaps a sign of unseemly ego), visits the mikvah to cleanse herself (an act that raises eyebrows, since she has no husband), and she wears flowing clothes that show her figureAall of which is noted suspiciously by the local women whose common goal is to preserve tradition. In Memphis, where Shabbos dinner includes fried chicken and black-eyed peas, that task isn't easy. Taking a job as art teacher at the girls' school, blonde, green-eyed Batsheva is soon a beloved confidante of the community's female teenagers, but when she allows them to wear makeup and miniskirts on a ski trip, and becomes close to the Rabbi's beloved 22-year-old son, she's the subject of cruel gossip. After one of her students runs away with a non-Jewish, older boyfriend, Batsheva is blamed. The narrator, one of the housewives fiercely protective of the insular community, tells the story in third-person plural: "little changed in this city where we have always lived"Aa statement rendered untrue, of course, as the community breaks into discord. Caught in the middle are Ayala and the respected and goodhearted Mimi Rubin, the rabbi's wife, who begins to believe rumors about her son's attachment to Batsheva, and panics. Generous with humor and compassion, Mirvis paints tenderly nuanced portraits of strong female characters while scrutinizing an entrenched religious subculture whose traditions are threatened by modern temptations. Guilt, passion, prejudice, loneliness and independence. Common themes in Jewish literature are explored with sensitivity in a gentle story that captures its milieu with tolerant understanding, and plucks the heartstrings. "My" Family
One of my sister's posted this pic on her blog and so I copied it for posterity's sake to post on my blog. This is my family. This was taken at Thanksgiving in St George. We are missing a few people but most everyone is there. We really missed Jeff, our brother, and, of course, Chris's wife and kids and the rest of Kim's kids. I hope I'm not missing anyone else. Yes, the one with a crazy look on her face is my oldest sister, Kim. She's so funny! Man, I miss her!

Suzie Homemaker
What a perfect way to spend a lazy, cold, snowy Saturday afternoon!!
I made some of my family's famous pomegranate jelly today. The juice has been sitting in my fridge for a couple weeks and finally, today, I mustered up the will to make it. So, here is a picture of my beautiful red jars! Every year, we make the jelly for our food storage as we just can't live without it. Thankfully, my Uncle Russell, a few years back, planted a pomegranate tree orchard with over 100 trees! He squeezes the juice, pasteurizes it and makes jelly, syrups and plain old juice to sell. Thanks, Uncle Russell, for the juice!
Don't these yummy rolls look yummy?! They are delicious, I tell you! I had to make rolls for the ward party tonight. And, they go great with my homemade pomegranate jelly!
The Kids all cozied up watching Wall-E together!
*Notice our Charlie Brown tree in the background with most of the ornaments gone. I don't even know why I even try. It was decorated at one point! Oh well! That's why I don't do anything super fancy right now 'cause then I don't care so much if the kids play with the ornaments!

Lame Tagger
I know, all of you who have tagged me probably keep wondering when and if I will ever finish the tag. Well, maybe. I just haven't had time to sit down and do it. Sorry. I do usually like to do the tags though! Some of the tags I've been tagged on, I did last year so maybe I'll just re-post those.
Anyway, hope everyone is having a Very Merry Christmas Season! We are just enjoying being home. And, kind of hoping it snows . . . I know that sounds crazy to wish for. But, where we live now, in our new home, it seems like everytime it snows around the valley, it passes us up!!! I am grateful for that because I really hate it (especially the shoveling part), but it is fun to see the flakes fall and it excites my kids. So, for that, I hope this predicted snow storm for tomorrow really does happen here in our neck of the woods!

Temple Square & Children's Museum
Last Saturday, our family went down to Temple Square to see the lights. We love to go every year. First we ate at Olive Garden, then walked over to the temple.
The Nativity - Every year I take a picture of this and every year, it never turns out! But, this year, it kind of did! I don't know why I even try!!!
Yesterday, the boys and I went to the Children's Discovery Museum at the Gateway with my friend, Trenda, and her kids. It was so much fun! A great way to spend time on a cold Winter day! If you haven't been to the museum, it's a hands-on children's museum. They have a farm, a grocery store, house, rock climing, water thing . . . all kinds of fun activities to do that mimick real life.
Rock Climbing. The boys really loved this and they were good at it too! Matthew surprised me the most. He is a buff little guy!
Matthew and Andrew on the horse in the Farm Land.

Fun Gift Idea
Great LDS mission/Baptism date memento that anyone might like!
Ben makes these dog tags for missionaries and for people who get baptized/receive the priesthood.
They are made in the same manner military ID tags are made. He made himself some awhile back and someone asked him for one and so it kind of spun off from there. Go to the web-site to check them out and please pass it along to everyone you know!
The web-site for now is: http://godsarmytags.blogspot.com
He's still working on posting more pictures too, but check it out!

Thanksgiving Fun
We ate a delicious Turkey dinner with Ben's family on Thanksgiving day.
Us at Ben's brother's house for Thanksgiving dinner.
Ben's parents
Then, early Friday morning, we left for St George to eat ANOTHER big Turkey dinner with my family at my mom's. Mostly all my family came and that was so fun! We did miss my brother, Jeff, though, who stayed home back East. My Dad also joined us and that was nice too. I don't know what happened. I don't have any pics of my mom. I think she's sort of poking her head in the pie pic. So sad! Good thing my other sisters were taking lots of pics!
My sister, Leanna, who was not feeling well that day.
Chris, Leanna's hubby, doing the dishes. What a gent!
Matthew was a hit with everyone! But he really only liked one person, his cousin, MaKenna!
My brother, Chris, with Matthew
My sis, Kim, and my Dad
Kids in the tree. For some reason, they really liked this tree this trip!
Lighting of the Lights Festival at St George Temple
Ben with my sister, Rebekah, and her family at the temple
Pie.

In the Depths of Despair
I don't even know why I am blogging about this, but I am. Last night we partied at Ben's brother's for the anticipated Holy War match-up and, boy, was it a disappointment or what?! It was said that Blue is the color where God lives and Red is the color where Satan dwells, yet, last night our beloved Cougs could not seem to pull off a win. We are still in mourning today. And hopefully, soon, we can move on. Until next year . . .

BLUE BLOODS by Melissa De La Cruz
Schuyler Van Allen has never fit in at Duschesne, her prestigious New York City private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes to the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates. But when she turns fifteen, Schuyler's life changes dramatically. The death of a popular schoolmate haunts her in unexpected ways. And strangest of all, Jack Force, the most popular boy in school, is showing a sudden interest in her.
Once an outcast, Schuyler is thrust into Manhattan's most exclusive social circle. Its members are the powerful, the wealthy, and - as Schuyler soon discovers - the unhuman. They are Blue Bloods, an ancient group of vampires, and for centuries they've been invincible. Now something is preying on this elite group, and Schuyler wants to find out the truth. But is she the most vulnerable of them all?

Like Meyer, De La Cruz has created her own unique take on the vampire story. If you liked Twilight Series, you might like this new Blue Bloods Series.

Midnight Showing
YEP! I DID IT! I WENT TO THE MIDNIGHT SHOWING OF TWILIGHT! It was the most fun I've had in a long time! Seriously, CRAZY! Our group consisted of about 20 ladies. We sat in a packed house with around 580 seats, 7 of whom were men (we gave them a round of applause!). We were all a bunch of love sick, crazies ooohing and ahhing over Edward, while at the same time dissecting the film to pieces! We loved it! It pretty much follows the book and I think the chemistry between Edward and Bella was just right. I was a little leary of the castings, but, by the end, I was convinced they were all the right people for each role. Can't wait for #2!
Me with my friend, Stacey.
Pre-show festivities at our friend, Jena's, house. So much fun! Thanks for the "Hotter than Edward Hot Wings," "Cullen's secrets in the sauce Soup," "Jacob's Foaming at the mouth Floats," and "Bella's irrisistable 'Just Bite Me Already' Brownies." In addition to the yummy food, we played pin the bow tie on Edward! Mine is the one closest to his neck.
A bunch of us, not all of us, most of us hanging out before the movie. It was crazy packed!
Stacey and I anxiously awaiting the start of the movie. WHAH!
A few of us AFTER the show. I'm freezing. It was so cold at 3 a.m. without a coat!
