Andrew turns 8!

It's been a whirlwind of couple of weeks at our house. Andrew had a birthday! It was an extra special one considering he turned 8. Last Saturday,on Cinco de Mayo, our sweet little guy was baptized & confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by his father. What a beautiful day! Here are some pictures capturing all of these wonderful events.

This week: English class at a glance

In my 9th grade English class, we're finishing up our unit on Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. My favorite part is watching the Baz Luhrmann adaptation of the play starring Leonardo diCaprio and Claire Danes. We're to the part where Mercutio and Tybalt die. I just can't get enough!

In my English 11 class, we've just started Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I don't know why, but I'm not very excited about it. I'm trying to be. My lack of motivation probably roots from my students lack of motivation. The magical question is, how does one motivate 11th graders who don't want to do anything ever?

Now, my AP class, on the other hand, is a dream come true. We're finishing our Jane Eyre unit. The best part about AP is they like to read, they do their homework, and they write well, and . . . I could go on and on. They are kindred spirits. Next week, we're going to have a Jane Austen marathon. I can't wait to introduce one of my favorite authors to some of my favorite students. #Happiness.

Hoopin' it up!

The kids are playing basketball, and their dad is coaching them! It's pretty fun to watch the kids fighting for the ball. The boys are on the same team and Elise is on another team.

These pics aren't the best, and I don't have one of Elise.

Words from my students

I asked my students what I should write today on my blog. This is what they said.

"I hate my 11th grade students because they're lazy. They don't do their assignments." - Zjani

"I love my 11th grade students because they bring me Diet Dr. Pepper and M&M's." - Sierra

"Josh is amazing! I love him!" - Josh

"A4 is better than A2." - Kirsten

"I love Maddie because she's my favorite student!" - Maddie

"Bull crap! I'm her favorite student!" - Josh

"No, I'm her first favorite, and then you (Josh). Suck it, Josh!" - Maddie

I have nothing to say

I was just looking over my blog and noticed I haven't been actively posting for over two years. Maybe longer.

Trying to figure out why, I realized I just haven't had anything to say.

Either that or my brain is too fried to think.

Probably the latter.

It is 2012, so I better get back on the bandwagon, especially since blogging is rather cathartic. There's something about posting to the world that feels good.

Even if I have nothing to say.
