Author's Weekend #2 ( interview)

Hey peps! Wat's up?????? nothing much is happening with my life right now BUT I finished SPIRIT BOUND today AND it was awesomely amazing !!!! like - @#$#%&%$$%#$@#$$# yer, like that. Anyway, a review of the Spirit Bound is going up tomorrow sooooooo make sure you stop by to read it becasue I was a really good book ;P Anyway, back to the point Welcome, to Part Two of Author's Weekend with Graham Parke ! With no further ado, I present you interview with Mr Gragham Parke!

No Hope for Gomez!

A novel by Graham Parke

“It's the age-old tale:

Boy meets girl.

Boy stalks girl.

Girl already has a stalker.

Boy becomes her stalker-stalker.

We've seen it all before, many times, but this time it's different. If only slightly.”

Q: Best Experiment as an Author?
A: I think that would probably be ‘No Hope for Gomez!’ Writing it felt a lot like an experiment. To be clear, it felt like I was the one being experimented on. A soon as Gomez’character was formed, he took on a life of his own. He had a lot of crazy ideas. Imagine having a character who demands you analyze the nature of bad luck, and who then comes up with a perfectly reasonably test to help you do this. A test anyone can perform using only common items found around the house. Scary.

Q: Ever stalked anyone? ;P
A: I’ve always wanted to. I think I would be very good at it, I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because I believe I have the right shoes for it. Sadly, though, I’ve never found anyone who was interesting enough. I guess that’s a problem most of us have. We may kid ourselves into thinking that we’re not stalkers, but all this tells us is that we still haven’t found that special someone to push us over the edge. Or, at a pinch, we really don’t have the right shoes for it.

Q: Do you listen to music when you write, and if so, what?
A: I generally don’t listen to music when I write. I tend to block everything out. The world doesn’t actually exist when I’m writing. You might not have noticed this, but that’s not your fault. You simply didn’t exist at the time.

Q: Would you ever paint your house purple?
A: Not really. To be fair, though, painting houses is very much something that I feel should happen to other people.

Q: Worst subject at school ?
A: What’s the one with all the long, boring, complicated bits?
Thank-you Graham for your time and I pretty sure the boring, one with all the complcated parts was science T_T. Too many formulas and life cycles and Newton laws. ;P Okay. guys that's Mr Graham Parke for you! Check out his novel Nope Hope for Gomez which sound pretty awesome ( I heart stalkers- they aren't creepy they're romantic ....joking bgut seriously o_O) Anyway, thank-you again Graham and everyone, enjoy your weekend!

Author's Weekend #2 ( Guest Post)

Hello my little darlings! It was just my luck to be able to get ANOTHER author this weekend too! ( God loves my right now ;P) For those who don't know what Author's Weekend is, It is a two day author special. So basically an author does an guest post AND an interview which are posted over the weekend. Capish? Pretty simple really ;P Anyway, this week's Author's Weekend features.... Graham Parke!

Graham Parke is responsible for a number of technical publications and has recently patented a self-folding map. He has been described as both a humanitarian and a pathological liar. Convincing evidence to support either allegation has yet to be produced.

Guest Post
I almost met James Cameron today!

Just to be clear, it wasn't that the Avatar 3D director and I just missed each other, it was just that it was almost him, but slightly, just slightly mind you, someone else. I hate when that happens. You get so close, then, nothing…

But this incident started me thinking. This kind of thing has been happening to me a lot lately. And not only with celebrities. Just the other day, I almost ran into Garry, a friend of mine. From a distance, at an angle, it looked exactly like him. A dead-ringer. Could have fooled his own mother. It wasn't until I came closer, and he turned his head a few degrees to the left, that he revealed himself to be just a little bit someone else. The thing was, when I walked passed him, he gave me a long, thoughtful look. He looked me over, then shook his head and turned away. But I knew what it meant. I knew exactly what he was thinking. He had almost recognized me back!

Now, almost-Garry almost recognizing me back made the whole situation much more complicated. My mind went haywire, trying to understand this, trying to figure out the underlying meaning. Was it possible for someone who was almost Garry but not quite, to recognize me but only slightly? Was it? And, if so, what was I to him exactly? Was I someone who looked like someone he knew? It was hard to say, but it was unlikely. All I knew for a fact was that I was someone who was known by someone he looked like. But which wasn't him. And, in fact, to be fair, he probably didn't even realize that he was almost Garry but not quite.

Are you still following me?

Probably not. Probably your brain isn't defective to the point of reasoning this way. Good for you. You're better off for it. So, let's back-track a little. Let's just assume that the easiest explanation is the correct one. It usually is. And if it isn't, it should be. Really. Life is hard enough already.

So, I almost recognized Garry, and almost-Garry almost recognized me (that look was unmistakable). This must mean that there is another Graham-and-Gary combo out there. This almost-Gary actually knows an almost-Graham. And this idea has big implications. As you know, and understand inherently in the core of your being, the universe is nothing if not a little fractally-inclined. Recursion-mad. If there are two sets, there must be more. There are probably thousands. Thousands of Graham-and-Gary combos. And this, of course, is upsetting. Because the first question that comes to my mind is, what if some of them are better at being a Graham and Gary combo? In fact; what if most of them are better? What if my friend Gary and I are in fact the worst of the bunch?

So, to summarize, I did ask almost-James Cameron for his autograph. Of course I did. I'm no fool. So, if you're interested in almost-autographs, check out my store on eBay. You won't be disappointed!

Haha, that's really funny ;P Maybe one day I can almost meet a celebrity! Anyway, thank-you Graham that was certainly entertainn to read and eh, I sure we all have had those I THINK JUST SAW BRITNEY SPEARS BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE SOME OTHER BLOND CHICK !!!!! moments ;P Anyway, guys make sure you check out tomorrow's interview with Graham okay? Plus, please check out Graham novel 'No Hope For Gomez' which sounds really good. ( I heart Stalkers) I have a description of the book underneath here.

Description - No Hope for Gomez
It's the age-old tale:

Boy meets girl.
Boy stalks girl.
Girl already has a stalker.
Boy becomes her stalker-stalker.

When Gomez Porter becomes a test subject in an experimental drug trial, he is asked to keep track of any strange experiences through a blog. What Gomez isn't ready for, is so many of his experiences suddenly seeming strange; the antiques dealer trying to buy his old tax papers, the phone-sex salesman who hounds him day and night, the super sexy research assistant who falls for him but is unable to express herself in terms outside the realm of science.

But when one of the trial participants turns up dead and another goes missing, Gomez begins to fear for his life. No longer sure who he can trust and which of his experiences are real and which merely drug induced illusions, he decides it's time to go underground and work out a devious plan.

That's all for now! Adios!!!!

Three Wishes Wednesday #5

Hey hey guys! It's wednesday meaning it's Three Wishes Wednesday!!! Straight to the point this week we have......
1) Forgot You by Jennifer Echols

Release Date - 20th July 2010

Why- I haven't read anything by this author but have heard great things about her books. So I thought why not? If I'm going to read her book might as well read the newest one. So this is one that I'm looking out for.

Description- There’s a lot Zoey would like to forget. Like how her father has knocked up his twenty-four-year old girlfriend. Like Zoey’s fear that the whole town will find out about her mom’s nervous breakdown. Like darkly handsome bad boy Doug taunting her at school. With her life about to become a complete mess, Zoey fights back the only way she knows how, using her famous attention to detail to make sure she’s the perfect daughter, the perfect student, and the perfect girlfriend to ultra-popular football player Brandon.

But then Zoey is in a car crash, and the next day there’s one thing she can’t remember at all—the entire night before. Did she go parking with Brandon, like she planned? And if so, why does it seem like Brandon is avoiding her? And why is Doug—of all people—suddenly acting as if something significant happened between the two of them? Zoey dimly remembers Doug pulling her from the wreck, but he keeps referring to what happened that night as if it was more, and it terrifies Zoey to admit how much is a blank to her. Controlled, meticulous Zoey is quickly losing her grip on the all-important details of her life—a life that seems strangely empty of Brandon, and strangely full of Doug.

2) Personally I blame my Fairy Godmother by Claudia Carroll

Release Date - 5th August 2010

Why- I haven't read a chick lit in AGES. I have been stuck in the world of YA ( because I secretly believe I am forever young ) Anyway, this one sound like a fun read so yer ..it's on my wishlist.

Decription - The fairytale ending was just the beginning!Jessie Woods absolutely believes in fairytale endings. So would you if you had a recession-proof career as a daredevil TV host, a palatial pink mansion, and the dream boyfriend. But, quicker than you can say Cinderella, her life falls to pieces and suddenly her prince isn't quite so charming, her party-loving friends disappear and even her faithful friend Visa no longer loves her! Utterly heartbroken and jobless, Jessie is forced back home, to live with her stepmum and two evil stepsisters. Is it time for her to give up on the dream - or will Jessie learn that happy endings can come in the strangest of places? Avon's hot new acquisition presents a tale of princes who turn out to be frogs, Manolo Blahnik glass slippers and not-so-happily-ever-afters!
3) Jealousy by Lilith Saintcrow

Release Date - (?) June 2010

Why- I absolutely LOVED the first two books. ( Rated them I think 4/5) Anyway, one of the better series that I have read. If you like the Paranormal this one is for you!!!! It everything in one (ghosts, vampire, werewolves, zombies and more) Plus there is a boarding and boys and romance and and and.....JUST READ IT !!!!!

Description - Dru Anderson might finally be safe. She’s at the largest Schola on the continent, and beginning to learn what it means to be svetocha–half vampire, half human, and all deadly. If she survives her training, she will be able to take her place in the Order, holding back the vampires and protecting the oblivious normal people. But a web of lies and betrayals is still closing around her, just when she thinks she can relax a little. Her mentor Christophe is missing, her almost-boyfriend is acting weird, and the bodyguards she’s been assigned seem to know much more than they should. And then there’s the vampire attacks, the strange nightly visits, and the looks everyone keeps giving her. As if she should know something. Or as if she’s in danger. Someone high up in the Order is a traitor. They want Dru dead–but first, they want to know what she remembers of the night her mother died. Dru doesn’t want to remember, but it looks like she might have to–especially since once Christophe returns, he’ll be on trial for his life. The only person who can save him is Dru. The problem is, once she remembers everything, she may not want to…

That's all for this week !

Modern Faeirie Tales vs. Wicked Lovely

VS.

Okay, I have decided to do another one of these this vs. that. This time it's not vampires but ...Faeries ! So, the two I'm going to talk about today are...The Modern Faerie Tale trilogy by Holly Black and The Wicked Lovely  series by Melissa Marr. Now both author are well known and good writers with brilliant plots but which of their Faerie series shine brighter?

So both are about faeries, they are all set with a summer and winter court, they are all set in the iron city ( New York...i think) and both were quite interesting. So, what sets one above another? Well, just to let everyone know I'm not very objecive, everything is usually subjective. For me, in order for a book to capture my attention it has to have 1) A Good Cover (sucker for good covers) 2) Interesting Blurb ( some books are fantastic stories but have crappy blurbs) 3) They have to be of a genre that I read.

Now, Mordern Faerie Tale by Holly black...it was good BUT it could have been better. The series was really weird, like the first and last book are about the same character than the middle book is about someone else all together. The charcters are creepy ( green faeries with black eyes , purely black). Another downer is that I don't really like reading about kids with issues. I don't reading about alcoholic mums or about your mum is secretly hooking up with your boyfriend. I don't like to read about being homeless, taking drugs or that you live in a train station. So, quite a bit on the don't like. Plus, the covers were nothing special.

Wicked Lovely on the other hand was ...better. It was more of something that I would read. Hot charcters, interesting plot that is not about kids with issues and much happier to read. Fantastic covers too! It was still dark fantasy but at least it dark fantasy with sorta happy endings. The relationships were kinda cute and sweet. Faeries are al least normal in this one ( I have nothing against the weird but Modern Faerie Tale was like REALLY weird) However, charcters annoyed me. Leslie was pratically useless. She finds out faeries exist and runs and hide.

So both series' had their flaws but overall I think I would liked Wicked Lovely Better!

Wintergirls

Finished reading this book on Saturday ( stayed up elevenish at night trying to finish it). Okay, before I start, I have to say THIS WAS NOTHING THAT I EXPECTED. I was expecting something to do with faeries because wintergirls (the winter court = faeries) Anyway, no it turned out to be about some chick with anoexia who's best friends has just died. First disappointment. Then, I was like okay, who cares I read depressing novels too so I kept on reading. Then Lia ( anoexia chick) starts cutting herself and the texts gets so graphical about blood and gore I almost threw up my dinner. Second disappointment. Okay, so I was like that's cool and everything, I caan survive a story about emo, anoexia chick. So, I read, read and read then I finish the book. Now, I ask myself this question? WHAT ON EARTH AND SURROUNDING PLANETS WAS THAT ABOUT????? I thought and thought and thought. I came up with - some book that has way too lyrical language about some emo, anoexic chick that had no plot.

So as you can read, I didn't enjoy the book very much ( or at all) but on a sidenote it was...different so a change is good. Well, didn't excatly enjoy it but it was different.

Author's Weekend #1 ( Interview)

Hey Guys ! Welcome to Auhtor's Weekend Part Two with Jennifer DuLucy !!! ( If you haven't read part one I suggest you do) So Sunday = Interview !!!!! Okay, I think I should shut up now and get on with it ;P

1) Best experience about being a 2010 Debut Author ?
Actually, it's been my communications with blog reviewers and their readers. It's so incredible a feeling to know that someone has read and loved your work enough to want to write about it elsewhere. So far, that has been right up the top there with cool experiences.

2) What inspired you to write Seers of Light?
How did it all start? Man, I get asked this one a lot, and the truth is, it was a combination of things. First, I'd lost a loved one, and that kind of thing really brings your beliefs to the surface, you know? So, I took all those spiritualisms that I'd come to accept and used them to write a paranormal love story--which had been a goal of mine for a while. In fact, I had a creepy scene written already, about a shadow spirit haunting a young woman's bedroom, so, when I started Seers, it fit perfectly into the story. It was meant to be.

3) Describe Seers of Light in three words
My whole heart.

4) Can you relate to any charcter in the book
Yes. I can relate to all of them, actually, because they all have a piece of me in them. But, if I had to choose one character, I'd say William, because I know what it's like to be on the outside.

5) Favourite books all time
Jane Eyre, hands down, number one. That's a fabulously angst-filled, passionate love story for its era. Then The Five People You Meet in Heaven, because it just broadened my whole heart and mind and gave me a deep sense of peace when I'd finished it.

6) What do you do when you get writer's block?
I listen to music! I'm a musician, I've actually written music for the first book in the Seers series, and I compile playlists for each book. Also, walking in natural settings, spending time in the woods or on trails really inspires me.

7) Do you listen to music when you write? If so what
I find lyrics to be super distracting when I'm writing, so I can only really listen to instrumental music, then. But before and after? Absolutely.

8) Five things all good books should have (eg faeries, princesses, really expensive schools, hot guys and rainy sunday mornings something like that )
Hah! Well, I'd say, number one, an authentic voice. I like it when an author's unique voice shines through, when I don't feel like they're trying too hard to sound like someone else. Secondly, heart. I have to feel the emotion when I'm reading. Third, I love a good romance, and though it's not essential for me, I'm a romantic by nature, so it helps! Fourth, a strong female character! Even if she doesn't know she's strong in the beginning. And fifth, originality, a plot that hasn't been done over and over again.

Well, thank-you Jennifer and it has been a pleasure have you talk about your experiences with us! I, for one enjoyed reading your guest blog and your inspirational answers to my iterview questions ;P ( Last one was abit funny aye?) haha again Jenni fer I can't thank-you enough for taking the time to the the interview and guest blog THANK-YOU !!!!!

Author's Weekend #1 ( Guest Post)

Hey hey Guys !!!!! Guess what ? Okay, if you scroll back a few posts you will find one about my blog renovation and upcoming events. In that I said something along the lines of Guest posts and Interviews etc etc. Well, I have started a new blog feature called Author's Weekend! Well, okay it's basically just Interview AND Guest Post but it sounds better when I say Author's Weekend. So this is how it works, Author's weekend is a two day interview and guest post special with different authors! So it's like guest post Saturday and interview Sunday get it? Pretty Easy so let's get on with it !
This week's Author's Weekend Features...... Jennifer DuLucy

Jennifer DeLucy grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania, where she developed an obsession with all things literary and musical thanks to the influence of an extremely creative family. Before moving to the Midwest in 2002, the author studied vocal performance and had her first taste of literary work as an editor for a local social organization. Currently, Jennifer works for a local university while employed as a Developmental Editor for Omnific Publishing, and when she's not glued to her laptop screen, she is singing with her musician friends or hosting raucous game nights. Jennifer admits she could never quite choose between music and writing, as both have always called to her equally, and so she intends to use her love of the arts, nature and spirit for the sake of broadening hearts and minds in every way she can.

Guest Post

The Badass Bookie asked me to write a guest blog, and so I thought I'd delve into a topic that has always held my interest, whether writing and reading. Specifically, I thought I'd talk about the paranormal--specifically, why I love it so much.

Most loves begin in childhood, and that is definitely the case here. Ever since I was a
little girl, I've always been deeply fascinated with anything I couldn't understand, couldn't fully see. And after experiencing some bone chilling instances of theinexplicable myself, such things were branded in my mind forever. I was altered, plain and simple. Actually, the more people told me that the unexplainable wasn't real, wasn't possible, the more I seemed to believe in it, the more I wanted to learn about it. Anything that's ever frightened me has always ended up igniting the same response later in life--insatiable curiosity. Has that ever happened to you? Some intense fear turned into fascination turned into obsession? I think I've always been like that. I can remember once, when I was very little, the local weather personannounced there was a tornado watch in my area. Now, mind you, Pennsylvania wasn't exactly prone to twisters, but tell that to a terrified six year old, right? So, I did the only logical thing one would do under such stressful circumstances -- I grabbed a plastic Virgin Mary statue and hid under a blanket for hours. Perfectly normal behavior.

Now, fast-forward to present day, and you'll often find me seeking out tornado footage or reading articles about them. Heck, I'm still chomping at the bit to ride with storm chasers. And what does all this have to do with the supernatural, paranormal writing universe, you ask? Well, aside from weather phenomenon, I was also terrified of ghosts, of the things that rattled in the night, that creeked and groaned and hovered and whispered. And naturally, with as much innate belief in those things as I must have had, this evolved into a thirst for information, and eventually, a love of the subject.

So, combine an unquenchable hunger for hauntings and the like with an adoration for a good love story and a firm belief in the human spirit, and tada, novel writing of the paranormal kind. Actually, and you can't see me hopping right now, but I totally am, because, in the next few months, I'll be traveling around with a paranormal research group, and this should render some fun results! I'll take lots of pictures, just wish me luck just in case I have a run in with the spirit world. Who knows... maybe I can get a ghost to do a guest
post on my blog.

Thank- You Jennifer ! Paranormal research group aye? If you find a fallen angel direct it my way! Haha okay guys, That's all for Saturday, come back tomorrow for the interview with Jennifer okay? DON"T MISS IT !!!!! Oh and guys check out Jennifer's Debut Novel Seers of Light which is out NOW!!!! Here I have a description-

Lillian Hunt has never truly lived. Always sensing more to the world than is easily perceived, she fears that her instincts are stubborn flights of fancy, or worse, mental instability. But some things—disappearing strangers, tangible dreams, and visits from malevolent creatures—cannot be ignored. Before it's too late,Lillian is ripped from the only existence she’s everknown and thrust into a reality that she always suspected, but could scarcely believe. She must learn the truth about who she is, the powerful beings that wish to destroy her, and the two men who would die to protect her.

Why- Guys, check out the cover...okay checked it out yes? HOW COOL IS IT !!!!!! I absolutley think this is like one of the prettiest covers I have ever seen. Btw, cool title don't you reckon forgive my fins, forgive my sins haha get it? Plus, if you read the description it sounds really good. Romance mixed with the impossible = good story. Plus, I have heard quite a bit about this book so yerdefintiely picking it up. btw does anyone know whther this is a debut book????

Description- Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it’s not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you’re a normal teenage girl, but when you’re half human, half mermaid like Lily, there’s no such thing as a simple crush. Lily’s mermaid identity is a secret that can’t get out, since she’s not just any mermaid – she’s a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn’t feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she’s been living on land and going to Seaview high school ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems – like her obnoxious, biker boy neighbor Quince Fletcher – but it has that one major perk – Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren’t really the casual dating type – when they “bond,” it’s for life. When Lily’s attempt to win Brody’s love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily-ever-after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.

2) Radiant Shadows by Melissa Marr

Release Date- 20th April 2010

Why- This book was actually released like a month ago but I have never got around to reading it. I quite enjoyed the first three books of the Wicked Lovley series so I been looking forward to this one for quite some time. However, I'm not a big fan of the charcters in this book since they weren't excatly major charcters that I paid attention to in the first three books so yer. Pros and Cons before I even start reading ;P

Description - Hunger for nourishment.Hunger for touch.Hunger to belong. Half-human and half-faery, Ani is driven by her hungers. Those same appetites also attract powerful enemies and uncertain allies, including Devlin. He was created as an assassin and is brother to the faeries' coolly logical High Queen and to her chaotic twin, the embodiment of War. Devlin wants to keep Ani safe from his sisters, knowing that if he fails, he will be the instrument of Ani's death.
Ani isn't one to be guarded while others fight battles for her, though. She has the courage to protect herself and the ability to alter Devlin's plans—and his life. The two are drawn together, each with reason to fear the other and to fear for one another. But as they grow closer, a larger threat imperils the whole of Faerie. Will saving the faery realm mean losing each other?
Alluring romance, heart-stopping danger, and sinister intrigue combine in the penultimate volume of Melissa Marr's New York Times bestselling Wicked Lovely series.

3) Halo by Alexandra Adornetto

Kiss of Crimson ( Midnight Breed #2)

Review #2 for this week.

WARNING - This book has sexual 'parts' so I woldn't advise anyone who isn't 'mature' to read this. Like not for kids or young teens.

Okay now on with the review. this is the second book of the Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian. Although I haven't read Black Dagger Brotherhood series I have heard sooooooooooo many people say that this is really similar so if you liked Black Dagger Brotherhood ( which bascially everyone who had read it thinks is awesome) you will like this one. I have to say that I liked the first one better. This one was just 'average'. I didn't really find it moving or anything ( Lucan & Gabrielle's books was really romantic *#1*) It was 'just another book' and the fact that I don't really like Dante doesn't help soooooo kinda disappointed with this one. Nothing else to say really, writing style was good but I didn't like the plot or charcters so lost quite a few marks there and nothing memorable really. Went around in a circle than ended so nothing exciting D:

Rating- 3/5

Skulduggery Pleasant

Okay, I haven't really been able to post anything this week except for the three wishes wednesday yesterday but I have managed to sqeeze two and half and an eight of a book in this week and since both were pretty amazing they deserve to be reviewed. So firstly Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy.

Before I start this book is a middle grade novel (I think) but I think anyone would it. It was pretty amazing, very, Very funky. I absolutley love the author's writing style it's smart, witty and sarcastic ( good mix). So are you wondering what this book is about????

Okay, I will tell you then *sigh* (haha) 12 yr old Stephanie Edgley's favourite uncle has just dies for an 'unknown reason' (cough cough murder cough) and has left all his property and royals to Steph (did I mention he was a writer???) Anyway, she meets a dectective who happens to be a skeleton (Skulduggery Pleasant) and together they are trying to solve her uncles murder and save the world from evil sorcerer *who's name I forgot* Anyway that's pretty much an outline of the book. You may think oh I have nothing on Harry Potter style books but this one was purely amazing like Derek had this very clever way of charcters going by a different name from their true name ( because true names hold power) and so he came up with names like Tanith Low, Ghastly Bespoke, Valkyrie Cain and Skulduggery Pleasant ( how clever aye????) I even tried making one for myself but......*epic fail*

Anyway great book, very very very Kewl and yer go grab yourslef a copy. On a side note, I actually met the author in March this year and attened one of his 'sessions' (talk sessions kinda things). I also got the third book signed (they didn't have the first or second book sooo yer SOLD OUT) and, AND i got him to write me a note to excuse me from being late to class ( This was a school thing where I met like 7 different authors including Jack Heath *funniest guy EVER*, Derek Landy, Penny Tangey and some others. Some of the authors I should have met were Marcus Zusak, Patrick Ness and Melina Marchetta) but anyway so yer we wrote me a really really awesome note + i got a photo ;P

Rating - 4/5 (*gasp*)

Three Wishes Wednesday #3

Sorry, sorry sorry guys that I wasn't able to post this up on Wednesday *rolls eyes* but I have exams next week and I'm kinda behind on my studying. So this is going to be a really really quick one. (Sorry, not much time *sobs*) Anyway this week we have....

1) Cinderella Society by Kay Cassidy

Releases Date - 13th April 2010
Why- I have been looking forward to this one in a while. I usually go for the darker stuff (you know not so pink or girly) but I enjoy one every so often so this is the next one I'm reading after the 30 books I still have to read.
Description - What’s a girl to do when the glass slipper fits, but she doesn’t want to wear it anymore?Sixteen year old Jess Parker has always been an outsider. So when she receives an invitation to join The Cinderella Society, a secret society of the most popular girls in school, it’s like something out of a fairy tale. Swept up by the Cindys’ magical world of makeovers, and catching the eye of her Prince Charming, Jess feels like she’s finally found her chance to fit in.Then the Wickeds–led by Jess’s arch-enemy–begin targeting innocent girls in their war against the Cindys, and Jess discovers there’s more to being a Cindy than reinventing yourself on the outside. She has unknowingly become part of a centuries-old battle of good vs. evil, and now the Cindys in charge need Jess for a mission that could change everything.Overwhelmed, Jess wonders if The Cinderella Society made a mistake in choosing her. Is it a coincidence her new boyfriend doesn’t want to be seen with her in public? And is this glamorous, secret life even what she wants, or will she risk her own happy ending to live up to the expectations of her new sisters?
2) Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready

Release Date - 4th May 2010
Why- Lovely Cover ( Purple ;P) and I have heard alot good things abou this one and seen alot of articles mentioning it soooooo I decided I'm going to give it a go.
Description- Love ties them together. Death can't tear them apart. Best. Birthday. Ever. At least, it was supposed to be. With Logan's band playing a critical gig and Aura's plans for an intimate after-party, Aura knows it will be the most memorable night of her boyfriend's life. She never thought it would be his last. Logan's sudden death leaves Aura devastated. He's gone. Well, sort of. Like everyone born after the Shift, Aura can see and hear ghosts. This mysterious ability has always been annoying, and Aura had wanted nothing more than to figure out why the Shift happened so she can undo it. But not with Logan's violet-hued spirit still hanging around. Because dead Logan is almost as real as ever. Almost. It doesn't help that Aura's new friend Zachary is so understanding--and so very alive. His support means more to Aura than she cares to admit. As Aura's relationships with the dead and the living grow ever complicated, so do her feelings for Logan and Zachary. Each holds a piece of Aura's heart...and clues to the secret of the Shift.

3) White Cat by Holly Black

Release Date - 4th May 2010

Why- Heard very good thing about this one and I'm quite a fan of the Faerie Trilogy of Holly's ( Tithe, Valiant, Ironside check them out) and so I have decided to add this to my TBR pile too ;P

Description- Cassel comes from a family of curse workers -- people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they're all mobsters, or con artists. Except for Cassel. He hasn't got the magic touch, so he's an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail -- he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.
Ever since, Cassel has carefully built up a façade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his façade starts crumbling when he starts sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He's noticing other disturbing things, too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him, caught up in a mysterious plot. As Cassel begins to suspect he's part of a huge con game, he also wonders what really happened to Lila. Could she still be alive? To find that out, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.
Alright that;s all for now. Sorry about the rush D:

Dust of 100 Dogs

Ahoy me hearties! Wanna read a tale from the salty sea? Go and grab yourself a copy of Dust of 100 Dogs by A.S. King. Okay, I'm going to stop the pirate talk coze I sound lame but I finished reading this book today and it was Fantastic!

It's about a lengndary teen pirate called Emer Morrisey who lived the the seventeeth century, who wants to settle down into a queit life with her one true love when she is killed and cursed with the dust of 100 dogs, dooming her to live 100 lives as a dog before returning to a human body with all her memories. Now she is a contemporary American teenager called Saffron Adams whos parents think thinks she is a genius but truthfully it's just because she has been around for 300 years. Saffron doesn't want to go to medical school or become the lifeline of her hopeless parents instead she wants a shovel and a ride to Jamaica where Emer buried all her booty ;P

This book was really different. It was like a pirate tale with a twist. First of all it was a girl ( not many girl pirtes aye?), secondly it told the story from alot of different perspectives not just Saffrons and Emer's ( it even included stories and tips from life as a dog which was pretty funny) but what I found most interesting was her journey into becoming the most feared lengend of the sea. The start was abit boring(which was why I put it down for like 4 months before picking it up again) and the ending was confusing in parts but it was definitley worth reading. Very, very different which made it memorable (there aren't like any pirate tales but there are alot of vampire tales so yer different is good). So yer I took a some points off for the beginning and the ending but it was still really really good so rating - 3.5/5

Am I addicted to books?

So how serious is your book addiction? I been thinking lately, well if you read books at all you can be called a book addict since like hardly anyone reads these days anyway (terrible shame but fact). So I have come up with an system to establish how serious is your book addiction ( this is what I do in science class). So ......
First we have the 'Reasonable Reader'
- You read around one book a week
- You enjoy reading but you have a life too
- You spend some money on books but prefer to buy clothes or I dunno, video games
- You read when you want to or before you go to sleep
So, like I said reasonable, you read but you're not crazy about books. You would prefer to go to the movies or hit the beach etc etc.

Then we have 'Book Fanatics'
- You read 2-3 books a week
- You would rather read than do other stuff unless you are doing it with friends
- You buy at least one book a week
- You read whenever you have free time
- You have a Goodreads acccount
- You spend sometime on the internet looking at Blogs about books
- You go to the library sometimes

There are also the....' I CAN' LIVE WITHOUT MY BOOKS AND WOULD FIGHT YOU WITH A STICK IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING!!!!!!!!'
- You read too many books to count ( at least three books a week)
- You would ditch your friends to read
- You dream about books
- You are always broke because you buy too many books
- The reason you got a job in the first place was so that you could afford books
- You go to the library once a week
- You would rather read or surf book blogs than go on facebook ( facebook is getting boring T_T)
- Your to be read pile is getting bigger and bigger but you still buy more books
- You love you books more than chocolate or shoes
- You are rarely seen without a book
- You love bookshops with coffeeshops inside
- You pre- order all your favourite books
- You attend lot of book-ish events
- You dream about your ideal library

Now, so that's the grading system that I came up with. I'm somewhere between the second and third stage ( I honestly dream about books ). I not exactly hard-core but not reasonalbe either. I went to the library today to pick up two book I had on hold and I was I thinking I'm going to get my books and go but......I ended up with five more books than planned. Not to mention my buying addiction. I buy two books read one then buy two more and so on and my to be read pile is getting bigger and bigger. Here check it out ( this is not even counting my EBook library which I have around 23 haven't read books) -

Beautiful Dead- Jonas & You've got Blackmail

okay so two reviews in one post ( killing two birds with one stone- haha I feel so smart ;P) anyway so I finished Beautiful Dead (Book One- Jonas) By Eden Maguire yesterday and I was going to post the review yesterday but you know, I didn't have time because I was meant to be studying for exam block ( which I haven't studied at all for). I also finished You've got Blackmail by Rachel Wright this morning so a double wammie today ;P

Beautiful Dead by Eden Maguire

Basically the story is about a girl who's boyfriend has just died, he is the fourth kid to die in her small town high school that year. She realizes that the four kids aren't actually dead but aren't alive either but somewhere in between called the Beautiful Dead. The whole stories follows how she helps Jonas (first kid to die in a biking crash) what truly happened the day he dies and left his girlfriend in a wheel chair. Beautifully written, very comfortable language and easy to understand. Great plot and used suspense very well, I was edging in my seat trying to figure out how Jonas actually died ( for once I didn't just flip to end and read the end before going back and reading the whole book- I sometimes do that ;P very naughty) mmmmm I can't think of anything wrong with it except Darina ( main character) was a really clingly girlfriend and annoyed half of the time. It was a enjoyable read can't really pick flaws in it (minus annoying character). However, nothing special good book but nothing memorable. Rating 3/5

You've got Blackmail by Rachel Wright

Plot is about a girl who's mum owns a hair saloon with typical high school problems (school yard bully, hot guy etc etc.) Discovers that someone is blackmailing her english teacher who was a balding middle- aged nobody who suddenly turned into a novelist overnight. Trying to figure who the blackmailer is and why while dodging the bully etc. etc. ect.) Very easy, very short (only about 200 pages big text) It was relaxing to read something like this after so much scandel and death you know? It was an easy breezy read that you went yer, okay great the end moved onto something else. Can't really describe excep that it was really easy to read, quite enjoyable and funny. Rating 3/5
That's the two reviews so later! Adios!

1) The Rise of Renegade X

Release Date- May 11th 2010
Why- It looks really good and sound really good too ;) But who doesn't love super heros? BTW I would do absoulutely anything to get my hands on a copy right now. *sigh* I sooooo want to read this one that it's not funny. However I also heard very VERY good things about this book sooooo yer and like I loved the Incredibles ( anyone remember that movie???) So maybe this is like one like the movie ;P

Description - Damien Locke knows his destiny--attending the university for supervillains and becoming Golden City's next professional evil genius. But when Damien discovers he's the product of his supervillain mother's one-night stand with--of all people--a superhero, his best-laid plans are ruined as he's forced to live with his superhero family. Going to extreme lengths (and heights), The Rise of Renegade X chronicles one boy's struggles with the villainous and heroic pitfalls of growing up.

2)The Julian Game

Release Date - August 26th 2010

Why - Pretty cool cover, sounds awesome too ;P and that nice shade of blue....btw the Julian Game ? How cool does that sound???? Ice queen + the new girl + HOT guy = good book. Easy peasy ;P

Description- New girl Raye Archer is desperate for a way into the In crowd, so when ice-queen Ella Parker chooses her to get back at her ex, the gorgeous Julian Kilgarry, Raye is more than game. Even if it means creating a fake Facebook identity as “Elizabeth” so that she can learn enough about Julian to sabotage him. While a fun and dangerous thrill at first, what Raye hadn’t counted on was falling for Julian herself—and igniting Ella’s rage. As Raye works to reconcile the temptress Elizabeth with her real-life self, Ella serves up her own revenge. Now it’s Raye who falls victim, as Ella creates an online smear campaign of nasty rumors and trashy photographs. Suddenly notorious, Raye has to find a way out of the web of deceit that she’s helped to build, and back to the relationships that matter. Adele Griffin’s riveting novel explores the issues of generation Facebook: the desire to be someone else, real versus online friends, and the pitfalls and fallouts of posting your personal life online for all the world to judge.

3) Claire de Lune
Release date - May 18th 2010

Why- I actually don't know but its sound very interesting and lovely cover..... and Claire de Lune sound just elegant and well it's music sooooo yer plus it's about werewolves sooooo yer NEW MOON RISING (im so corny today.....)

Description - Torn between two destinies? Claire is having the perfect sixteenth birthday. Vampire Academy vs House of Night

Vs

Okay, so Burned the seventh book of the House of Night series has recently come out and the fifth book of the Vampire Academy series ( Spirit Bound ) is coming out later this month. I thought well both of them are about vampire, a boarding school and hot guys which one is more worth your money? This is just a post I have decided to well post so convince myself which is better but you guys can use it too ;P
ps- this is pretty much subjective ( yer I'm not that neutral haha)

Okay, so first of all House of Night. It's an alright series, I enjoyed it but it was 'just another book about vampires' ( you know how after Twilight everyone keeps writing Vampire books??? yer, this is one of them) Anyway, I wasn't all that happy with this series and I can think of plenty of reasons why. Firstly, Zoey was really really annoying. Main characters should not be annoying but this was, seriously when trouble happens she was like damsay in distress ( then she turned hero but yer dasmay in distress half the time). Secondly, tooooooo many guys seriously way too many boyfriends and because of this none of the guys got much of a spotlight moment ( except for Stark which is the only worthy boyfriend). Thirdly, the sixth book was a waste of paper, nothing happened, it went around in a HUGE circle ended in the same spot, then when it finally gets interesting ( I'm talking about like the last three pages) it ends so waste of time and paper. Then there is the plot which is alright but nothing special and I just feel like too much is happening and it's taking more than it can handle. So yer rating - 3/5 ( Read it but get it from the library). Although this is my opinion because I know some girls who are like in love with the series.

Now, Vampire Academy okay, so I said that some girls are in love with House of Night well every girl I know (and guy- singular) who reads, loved this series. That says something, but well yer this is another vampire book after twilight ( although i think it was realised before twilight but got famous after it) Anyway, I can't really critize this series except that Rose is totally using Adrian ( hottest vampire on the planet and beyond) to get over Dimitri ( guy with the cool russian accent) and that is just wrong! She should TOTALLY be with Adrian because he is just so nice and not use him as a rebound guy( am I repeating myself? ) So although we're not Vampires( well I'm not , I'm a tooth faerie nah, jks haha thats not even funny) I really connected with the characters I mean it's all natural teenage romance ( House of Night - three timing-I don't know anyone who three times) you know with the love triangle, the best friend who dates the rebel ( okay, not the last part) but yer totallly awesome, my top tear jerker I would rather read VA anyday instead of HoN. Yer so rating - 5/5 (~gasp~ did she just give it a five out of five?) VA totally deserves a five and this a series that if you had to kill to get you would.
Yer, so you see it wasn't really balanced or fair but I really thought Vampire Academy was better(by far) AND I CAN"T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE !!!!!!!!!!!! *happy dance* Ohhhhh and the VA cover is wayyyy better ;P

Dark Divine

Okay, so I read this book in Febuary before started this blog or joined the debut Author Challenge so accordingly to guidelines for the challenge that is okay because I have never written a review for it ;P So, this book is written by Bree Despain who is a 2010 Debut Author ! Evryone knows I'm a sucker for good covers and this is one of those books that I went' OMG I have to read it because its got such a pretty cover' (did I mention purple was my favourite colour?)Anyway, so I read this book and it was pretty good. It was a good book but not great, it didn't stand out. Quite disappointed actually, I would have thought it was breath-takingly amazingfrom the good things I have heard but I just couldn't lose myself in this one. There was nothing wrong with it like all the charcters were great, plot good but it was just one of those books that you go good but not great D: You get it don't you? So it was one of those books but it was still pretty good like worth buying and reading ( plus it's got a pretty cover ;P) So yup, Rating - 3.5/5

Immortal

Finished reading Immortal by Gillian Shields today. I not sure if its is series but if it is this was the first book. I was a bit disappointed with this book, the storyline was anything special, Evie the main character was annoying at times and I have to say I had higher expectations for this one. However, it was very easy to read, I breezed through the whole book and the plot is quite simple so readers can follow along easily. I found this book quite depressing, not so much the charcters but the setting of the book. It sounded dark, depressing and full of misery. for anyone who is interested in dark & moody settings this ones for you ;P Rating 2.8/5 ( abit higher than 2.5 but not quite a 3)
