Sandsculpting at Virginia Beach

The sandsculpting contest at Virginia Beach was incredible. The children's eyes widened as they saw these giant sculptures, and realized it was made from the sand they played on. We all were inspired.

Kenyan and Becham Larsen came with us to the beach while their parents went on a date night. These boys are always awesome and fun to have around. Raiyah even admits she likes playing with them, even if they are boys.

Flanders Visit October 2011

Grandma and Grandpa Flanders came to visit in October. We had a lot of fun just hanging out, visiting sites, and late night chats over ice cream. I think this is my Dad's specialty. :) We were able to visit all of the Historic Triangle, Downtown Norfolk, and the Virginia Beach Aquarium. We love our family, and are so grateful for their love, and support. It's a lot more fun having visits than just skype. But we are very thankful for the invention of skype. It has made us not miss home so much.

Alexandria, Virginia

If I had a few days to go anywhere out here, I would most likely choose Alexandria. What a wonderful surprise we found in this old, yet vibrant city. The first time we went it was by accident, and both Ryan and I kept saying, "wow, what a beautiful town. I wonder what it is." When we figured out it was Alexandria we were very excited. We have heard from so many people that they love it. We were not dissapointed. There are streets still lit only by candle light, many old and cherished buildings kept in wonderful shape, quiet streets with so many shops to wander through, and the beautiful boardwalk.
The first Union Soldier was shot here, there are many taverns where revolution was discussed, and George Washington's townhome is here. This place is right outside Mount Vernon, I would recommend anyone stopping by for a visit.

Raiyah's First Season of soccer!

Raiyah did so awesome at soccer this year. I still remember going to a soccer game when Ryan and I were dating, and thinking how great it would be when my own child was playing on a little team. I didn't want to push it even though it's the best sport in the world. So I gave her the option of dance, or soccer in Virginia. She chose soccer. And, they needed more coaches for the YMCA so I got to be her soccer coach. It was more fun than I thought it would be. Raiyah LOVED practicing, but not the games so much. She was quite upset if someone took the ball from her. And she REALLY didn't like having boys on the field. But overall she truly enjoyed herself, and I was so glad I got to be part of it.

Mount Vernon

Ori

Pictures cannot capture the beauty and history of Mount Vernon. I was really anticipating visiting here, and was not dissapointed. We were lucky to go on a day when they were having a big celebration. It was the anniversray of when Washington arrived with Rochameau to plan their final attacks on the Brittish. This is where they planned how they would take Yorktown. It was so fun to see all of this talked about, and reinacted when we have already been to Yorktown and knew all about the war.
