my muffin jie-jie knows a lot of tricks

she knows how to:

• paw-paw (shake hands)
• high-5
• rollover
• play dead
• catch treats in the air
• balance treats on her muzzle, flip it and catch it in the air
  

so far i've only learnt:

• wave goodbye (well, sort of!)
• smile on cue :D
• crawl
• look cute
• babble

not bad for a 6 month old eh? :P

How To Make A Purée

(extract from http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/pureestore.htm)

1. Start by cooking the vegetable/fruit either by steaming, baking, micro- waving or boiling.
   Steaming maintains the most nutrients.

• Steaming, baking and boiling all allow for big batches of foods to be made at one time.
• Microwave if you have a small appliance or for when you plan to puree only a full ice tray of food. Many parents prefer to not use a microwave; we suggest that you steam or bake as the preferred cooking method!

1. Take the vegetable/fruit and remove them into the machine you have decided to use for pureeing.
2. Set aside the liquid that the vegetable/fruits were cooked in. This will be the liquid you add to make the puree. (do not use reserved water from carrots or other high nitrate veggies for a baby under 7 months old! Read more about Nitrates )
   Adding this liquid also helps to preserve any nutrients that may have leeched into the water during cooking.
3. Set your machine to puree or grind and begin to mash the vegetable/fruits.
4. As you are pureeing/grinding, add the liquid or plain water. You may use formula or breast milk if you so desire. These liquids give a little nutritional boost and add a familiar taste for baby.

i can now sit unassisted for longer periods now, i still topple after a while
mommy says i'm like a monkey when i climb all over her
i can go on my fours, rocking back and forth on my hands and knees and crawl a little faster now too, especially when mommy dangles the tv remote control in front of me

there're so many of them!

mommy's really thankful when PD Koh said that if i didn't get colic by 4 months, chances are that i will not get it now.
but i've been salivating more now, my favorite object now is the soft green Pigeon teether mommy bought me which i can steadily pass from one hand to the other.
mommy's concerned that i'm better at using my left hand than my right.

previously i have been doing back-to-tummy flips quite frequently
occasionally, i will turn from tummy-to-back
today, i decided to give mommy a birthday present, i did 2.5 flips CONTINUOUSLY!

a clean shaven little head to mark and commemorate 4 months of my life :)

por-por shaved me early in the morning before mommy went to work
it was a disaster!
my hair was unevenly shaved because i struggled in gong-gong's arms when my precious baby hair starts falling onto my face, getting into my nose and mouth
at the end of it, i really looked like i had a very bad hair cut :P

but by the time mommy came back, i was again a handsome boy
por-por sat me down in my blue bumbo chair and even out the hair cut
all the adults can't stop marveling at my new do
no more "toilet brush head" :)

jeremy laughed out loud this morning!
he chuckled too in his sleep in the middle of the night
it was really cute and sweet
but i also thought that it was kinda scary, baby chuckling in your arms in the middle of the night *i should stop scaring myself!*
this morning he did it again, much much cuter when he's chortling wide awake!
why all the excitement?
he's been smiling since he was 6 weeks old
but it's always been the silent type of cheek-to-cheek wide grins when cajoled
never one with sound
this is his first laughter!

i think he only laughs in the morning
didn't manage to catch any in rest of the afternoon
but he was generous with his charming smiles though :)

jeremy is somewhat an easy baby to care for
of coz he has his fussy moments, but overall a real darling to mommy and daddy :)
we went to the baby fair at taka last evening
it was our 1st attempt at dining out WITH the milkaholic
will he cry during dinner? will we get to eat in peace?
we got to eat in peace at the food court alright
not too bad for the 1st attempt
jeremy was all smiles when i played with him and daddy went to order dinner
previously we always bear with the hunger pangs and order takeaways after we've done our shopping!

bought the clip-n-go, double-sided first book and a squeeky lady bird
all from tiny love
this is getting obsessive :P

luckily it wasn't much of a battle
much of it was wasted when he played with the bottle teat
ebm is WHITE GOLD!
but he took it eventually :)
and it was even easier when he was drowsy
i think jeremy knows he's been duped but too tired to violently object!

SUDDEN refusal of bottle!

jeremy started to refuse the bottle yesterday
he's been taking a bottle a day since the 5th week
part and parcel of "mommy-back-to-work" training
we stopped for a week when he fell ill
he was only ill for 2 days, but i thought what the heck, just nurse him direct
who would have known that he'd refuse the bottle without the daily practice?!
he'd wail the moment we get him into the position to take the bottle
and cry even louder when the bottle is in his mouth
poor boy :(
i kept telling him that it's only once a day, and he gotta to learn so that por-por can take care of him when mommy's at work
have to persist and re-train him, otherwise por-por is gonna have a tough time

i think i'm gonna be still really big for a long time
i hope no one pokes at my stomach and ask if i'm sure there's not another one in there!

better sleep

getting babies to sleep is difficult
there're entire books devoted to this subject alone
and the truth is no one method works for all babies
some like a quiet room, while others prefer noise
some like vibrations whereas others like to be rocked
also, what works once won't always work the next time
in short, you gotta try anything and everything!
one technique works for a week and then the magic is gone
the fisher price aquarium swing is jeremy's and my best friend right now

Things I JUST found out...:

1. I knew I had to drink alot while breastfeeding, but nobody ever told me how much was alot. Well, I just found out that for a cow to produce 1 litre of milk, it has to drink 10 litres.


2. I also just found out that wet nurses in China were selected by how much they ate. The families planning to hire a wet nurse would sit each candidate down to eat. With a hearty appetite comes more milk, so the person who could eat the most would 'get the job'.

i spoke too soon....
the naps were a prelude to jeremy's fever and diarrhoea.
my poor baby was running a fever on the eve of national day
his temperature was 37.7 at home, by the time we reached the clinic it was already 37.9
he was also having diarrhoea the day before
for adults, it's easy to know if you have a tummy upset and diarrhoea
for a baby, it's difficult coz his poo is soft all the time!
paed confirmed that it was diarrhoea if the frequency of poo has increased
paed ordered a blood test, needed to know if it was a viral or bacteria infection
we rushed down to Mt. A for the blood test
it was difficult to watch, i cried when jeremy wailed as they drew his blood
heart pain ah!
went back to the clinic to await for the verdict
all's well now :)
tbf (total breastfed) him for 3 days and gave up pumping to store ebm (expressed breast milk) for work

i was tracing back and trying to figure out where jeremy could have caught the virus
probably too much shopping and activities during the weekend - going to mich's place, dog run and centrepoint...
no shopping for now!

longer naps

babe jeremy's been really good today!
he's taking longer naps today
haven't had that kind of luxury for a while now since he was 6 weeks old
after his 10am feed, he slept till 1pm
i had to wake him up for the 1pm feed
after that he slept again till muffin woke him up with her barking
it's a good day today :)

sleep well and grow big and healthy, my baby :)

I'm 2 mths old today!

yay! i'm 2 months old today!
time really flies!
before you know it, mommy will be back at work and i will spend my days at por-por's place.
i'd miss mommy, but por-por is also quite fun to play with lah.
the past 1 month was really an eye-opener for me!
been to the dog run, the vet's, shopping centres...
my favourite is still the dog run.

i can now see further too.
and also my neck pretty strong now, can sit with support for longer periods.
i've learnt to smile at familiar faces and coo a little just for kicks and see how excited the adults get!
every weekend, all the gor-gors and jie-jies will hover over me and marvel at how cute i am.

past month has been a blast!
