PTD

Did you know that post-holiday blues is an actual medical "disorder"?  I looked it up (I have a love-hate relationship with google).  PTD actually stands for post-travel depression but it applies to all forms of blues that occur at the end of a holiday type activity.  I'm sure you were wondering, and you're welcome.

I usually can make it past New Years before I really start feeling this, but this year it pretty much hit right after the first snow which was probably back in October.  So I was desperately in need of some Christmas cheer, and I'm pleased to say I got some. We had a fantastic Christmas, just perfect (that is until I started doing my online after Christmas shopping on Sunday evening and thought I might die from stress).

But the weekend was wonderful.  And family who wasn't here with us, we missed you and hope you had as nice a Christmas as we did.
Sugar cookies for Santa--I'm absolutely sure ours were his favorite.

Fuuuudge.  I did make English toffee too but of course its gone.

I finished Calder and Everest's stockings on Christmas Eve, just in time

Jade and I played in the snow for a good hour, and I made my first snow angel since I was about 10.  I forgot how much fun it is.  I just laid there in the snow for a while after until Jade asked me what I was doing.

Calder eating mashed potatoes.  I didn't get the picture of Everest hijacking the spoon and licking it completely clean.

Christmas morn!

Matching jammies that Aaron thinks are for girls only.  I swear when I bought them online you could NOT see that the monkeys were wearing PINK scarves.

And yesterday we opened what I said would be our very last can of formula.  At last, after appx. $3000 worth over the course of the last year.
So there you have it, a wonderful end to a pretty CRAZY year that passed by in a blur.  Anybody want to babysit? Go here for some ideas of how to beat PTD :)

So proud

(Excuse the coughing through the video, I'm not sure what that was about...)

In case you hadn't heard, Aaron is the coach of the freshman basketball team at Teton high school.  Besides the fact that being a coach makes you a pretty hot husband, his team is doing awesome! As of tonight they are 5 and 0 (I know very little about basketball, but I know that thats good).  And just as a side note, I'm pretty sure that last years team didn't win any games...

So yay Teton! And yay Aaron!  You are super amazing.

*Make that 6 and 0, as of Thursday night :)

As promised

The wonderful things about the place I live...

They make any place liveable :)
Beautiful home

Within driving distance from this awesome sister

Different experiences

Close to Jackson Hole

Incredible job for Aaron (he MADE this!)

Fun and beautiful friends

Perfect summers

The sunsets...right out our kitchen window

Cold enough to wear cool (and costly) winter gear

Close to grandma

My church ward...and my calling as the activities director.

Did I forget anything? Feel free to remind me, I can always use the encouragement.

PS. I had no idea so many of you liked Devon!  And no Rachel, you're not the only one who paused the scene where they get their clothes stolen...over and over and over. Let's have a Now and Then party soon, it would be fitting if we were having a reunion.

Dear Devon

The love of my life in middle school...Devon Sawa (Best known for Casper, Little Giants, Now and Then, and Final Destination ONE).  So much so that I tracked down his phone number by calling every Sawa listed in Vancouver, British Columbia until I found a relative who reluctantly turned it over to me. This was a lot more work before google. And a lot more expensive I'm sure.

I loved him so much that I devoted an entire childhood diary to him.  Yes, I did begin every entry with "Dear Devon". For some reason I liked that I could tell my deepest  12 year old secrets to this boy who had no idea who I was.  He obviously didn't ever respond, but I still could say whatever I wanted.  Blogging is similar for me.  Maybe more people are reading this than I think, but I assume its probably my parents, husband, and sister, and I would tell them these things anyway.

So what I would tell Devon today is that I wish I didn't have to live in Teton Valley.  I prefer my winters to be mild.  I prefer my dance classes to be full. I prefer to be able to drive without stopping for cattle, pigs, truck drivers stopping to talk to each other, or snow drifts too deep to get through. Today it is 13 degrees and sunny, 30 degrees warmer than it was yesterday. I'm jealous of all the people I know living in places like Virgina, South Carolina, Texas, California, or even Utah. I think I might cry.

Just let me feel this way today.  I promise I'll try in the next couple of days to devote a post to what is great about the place that I live.

Just added:
In case you don't understand quite how much I loved Devon...this is half of one wall of my bedroom.  And in case you were wondering, I didn't get to talk to him on the phone but I did talk to his mother and she told me about the movie he was in the middle of filming, Wild America.
The funny thing is less than a year later I was in love with Leonardo and took all these pictures down.

Exactly half

I'm pretty sure that exactly one half of Aaron's family is still larger than most people's entire family.  What a wonderful group.  We're not in this picture, this was Thanksgiving at my brother in law's house.  But I love this picture and feel pretty lucky that I can count this cool group as my family too.

The admonition of Paul

"...I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound; every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Philip. 4: 11-13

He's a pretty smart guy, that Paul.

It shouldn't be too hard to be content in my state.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Farm Livin' is the life for me

So the other day I'm running late for my Zumba class, thinking about why I could possibly have so few people in my classes and whether I really should be stressed about being late.  What am I doing wrong? Then I get to a road block...

I'm pretty sure if I want to teach a class with 100 people who love to latin dance, I'm living in the wrong town. Thank you cows for the reminder.

And what would a blog post be without the kids that make my farm house a home?

New old pics

Back in September when my SIL Amy was here and took family pictures, she also took a bunch of other pictures that I didn't see until today.  These were among them :) Aren't they cute? And oh how I wish it was still warm enough to lay them in the grass...

Can you tell which one is which yet?

11.14.2011

Too much

I should probably just focus my attention on one young adult fiction book to movie adaptation at a time.  But if you're more into Hunger Games you need to watch this! I almost cried watching it.  Because I'm a nerd.  And because it looks really good. I'm just happy I know how the movie will end or I don't think I could take it.

Latest craft day creations

I got this "hand turkey" idea from Blue's clues :) The idea is to make a little book and on each page you put something your thankful for.  But Jade just put a stamp on each page.

In this video, Aaron was trying to catch the boys holding hands and giggling, which you can see for about a second.  And then Calder and Aaron spend the rest of the time trying to get Everest interested again in all the fun they were having.

The countdown begins

Yes, you know which countdown I mean.

We're (I mean I'm...) budgeting for this one this month.  Twice.

PS. If you're looking at my blog right now, with the intention of checking your email and updating your facebook status after, then maybe you need to listen to this talk.  I know I did. Now, off to do something important.

Who would win?

 In a fight between...

Batman
 Superman
and Rainbow Bright :)

Its a tricky one, they all look pretty tough.

But let's back up.  Jade got sick over night and woke up on her birthday feeling pretty miserable. She had a temp of 103 that evening.  Its a small miracle that I got her to pose "happily" with her Jade pancakes.  Which she did eventually eat...all but the A.
This is the face that we got later through all the gift opening.

Luckily she woke up much chipper-er...more chipper?...the next morning (She is now absolutely enjoying each and everyone of her gifts. Thanks grandparents)

We were able to visit our family in Idaho Falls for their annual Chili cookoff/trunk-or-treat.  Today we convinced Jade that a really fun game would be to dump her candy out, organize it into piles according to candy-type (wait, that doesn't sound like me...), and then decide which candy would be good for mom and dad to eat.  Thank you Jade.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone!
Me, circa 1988, when people actually knew who Rainbow Bright was.  Thanks mom for making a costume that can stand the test of time.
