ABCP Episode #136

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by The Spectacular Superfriends Show on May 19 at Littlefield in Brooklyn, starring Adam Warrock, the Ampersands (aka Aaron), Michael Kupperman, Daniel St. Germain and Chris Gethard, the proununciation of which we experiment upon (was really trying not to end this sentence with a preposition). We of course talk about the new eye-candy Thor movie, as well as excellent editions of Heroes for Hire, Herc, Annihilators, Sweet Tooth, Blue Estate and Secret Six. Fear Itself continues to inspire ambivalence, which does not mean indifference so please don't yell at us.

ABC Podcast Episode #125, plus visual aids

This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Evie's back! Seriously, her back donated a year's worth of hosting fees, and while we're not quite sure where it got the money, we're thankful for the gesture. We recorded this show instead of watching the Super Bowl, because we don't really care about either team, and would rather it have been a matchup of the two generic teams on the Best Buy circulars telling you to get a new tv for the copyright-free "Big Game" (we've got $100 on the team with the all blue helmets, vs the team with the all red helmets.) Meanwhile in comics land, wins for Incorruptible, Spider-Girl, Secret Six, Jimmy Olsen, a cleavage-less issue of Gotham City Sirens, and a much-needed breather issue of Sweet Tooth. Plus a rare OGN win by Sarah Oleksyk's Ivy leads Aaron to reminisce about working at a copy shop in the mid 90's.

ABC Podcast Episode #122, plus visual aids

This episode of Evie & Aaron and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Weekend is brought to you by compromised immune systems and the inability to STOP THE RUN. We give much respect to two future-tech-idea-driven comics at different ends of their runs (The Infinite Vacation and Vision Machine) pay tribute to the always exceptional Secret Six, and Aaron has a bit of trouble with the proximity of the "O" and "P" keys on the keyboard. Speaking of which, Heroes for Hire keeps rolling, Daredevil and Superman start to get back on track (despite a shit beginning and some ridiculous proportions for Lois) and we bid a fond farewell to Thor: The Mighty Avenger without having ever learned the identity of the mysterious "Mister K."

ABC Podcast Episode #117 and Visual Aids

This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Sue from DC Women Kicking Ass, who turns our show into ABCP Women (and technically also a guy, but whatever) Kicking Ass! Huge wins for some of our favorite creators, as Gail Simone's Secret Six, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's Heroes for Hire, and Fred Van Lente's Taskmaster take home the big prizes, and most of the little ones too. Also, Crap of the Week has never been so literal. Plus, a dog!!!

Panels come from She Hulks #2, Generation Hope #2, and three from Secret Six #28, if I remember correctly, which I may not, but it doesn't really matter at this point because I need to get up early tomorrow and therefore no panels now. But I did better than last week at least!! HUZZAH!

ABC Podcast Episode #107, plus visual aids

This Labor Day episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by trying not to labor very hard, and also the US Open. And speaking of laboring, Taskmaster #1 is awesome. Other accolades go out to One Month To Live, Last Family of Krypton, Secret Six and Black Cat, while things related to hell are burning out their welcome. Aaron is obsessed with a new video game, and Evie saw lots of half-naked Iggy Pop this weekend, which she forgot to directly mention on the actual show but now you know.

Also, because we are dumb and forgot to link after we discussed them last week: here are webcomics Awkward Zombie and The Abominable Charles Christopher.

ABC Podcast, Episode #101 plus visual aids

This freshman-level episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by LeBron James, who, after a tortuous cost-benefit analysis, has accepted our offer to produce our show from Florida (suck it, War Rocket Ajax). A giant litter of adorable cartoon dalmatians goes out to Sweet Tooth, Secret Six, the Boys; first issues of Scarlet, Avengers: the Children's Crusade and Thor: The Mighty Avenger; and the final, moving issue of this volume of Demo. We also talk about Louis C.K.'s fabulously awkward new sitcom, and the Fantastic Four's answer to Planned Parenthood.

ABC Podcast, Episode #97 and visual aids

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by, well, it's not a Hat through the Centuries, I'll tell you that much. We get really into the goings on in Generation Lost/Booster Gold, sign on with Marvel's teen invasion in Avengers Academy and Young Allies, and okay Batman, whatever you say. Secret Six, Unwritten and Echo continue their brilliance, and Thor gets borked. Note that we'll be on vacation next week but still plan to do a show--it just may be a day or so delayed. Also note that this recap is not very funny, but I had a little unplanned hospitalization this week so I appreciate your understanding.

ABC Podcast Episode #92 plus visual aids

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a flashback to the last episode of Awesomed By Comics, because this joke isn't getting old even a little bit. Secret Six, Codebreakers and Echo kill with badassery, Brightest Day is totally like whatever, Batman and Robin is surprising, maybe? and we give our obligatory review of Iron Man 2. Also, don't miss Evie sit in for Conor on this week's iFanboy Pick of the Week podcast!

ABC Podcast, Episode #84 plus visual aids

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Sausage or Death Metal Band? Feel free to play along at home, Google probably won't help you. A wonderful last issue wraps up Kieron Gillen and Steven Sanders' tragically abandoned S.W.O.R.D., Criminal finishes another tense arc, Pet Avengers starts a delightful new one, and the Unwritten and Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man continue to rule. Also, Bruce Wayne is not the effing Riddler. Note that Evie will be away for SXSW next week, so Aaron may or may not have special surprises planned in her absence. Stay tuned.

TECHNICAL NOTE: I (Aaron) accidentally used my bass compressor on my voice while recording, so you will want to turn the bass WAAAAAAYY down on your player. (Either that or put your headphones in your pocket and enjoy.)

ABCP Episode #72 and visual aids

Tuesday is the new Monday.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Aaron's mea culpa regarding microphone technique, which is ironic since his mic distorts for a minute at the very beginning, and he didn't notice. Secret Six and S.W.O.R.D. win big, partially because they're two of the four books Evie read, but mostly because they win everything when they come out anyway. Aaron gushes over Paul Tobin's Marvel All-Ages output, and claims to have coined the phrase "Tobinverse," although he may or may not have. (NOTE: A google search turns up only one Paul Tobin-related result for "tobinverse" - ironically posted just last week, by friend-of-the-show Douglas Wolk.) Also, we decide the X-Men anthology books are better than anything else X-related.

OH MY GOD

I'M LIKE 27 COMIC BOOKS BEHIND. Did you know the X-Men moved to San Francisco?

Anyway. Sorry for the relative silence. Been deep in it here. But I have been prioritizing some comics, and can say that I will now only answer to Busty Meatloaf.

ABC Podcast, Episode #42 and visual aids

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by recliners, mind-boggling technology failure, and a very special message from Marvel and the next best thing to Sally Struthers. Gail Simone buries the competition with a pitch-perfect, rump-busting, life-and-death-and-sex-affirming issue of Secret Six, and Jeff Parker's new Exiles series is pretty sweet too. Apparently we're also supposed to be worried about Tim Drake, but I think we all know better than that jazz.

ABC Podcast, Episode #18 and visual aids

This week's Awesomed By Comics is sponsored by Two and a Half Men, known as a poet, calligrapher, and instigator of a probable death toll in the tens of millions. Secret Six, X-Men and Hal Jordan stand out relative to a slow week, and Obama and McCain square off in the age-old invisibility vs. flight debate. Word of caution: Evie is very sick, and totally sucks in this episode.
