Snow in Africa?

That's true! It's real snow. When we were hiking Mount Kenya we saw the first snow this year. It was so beautiful!
We walked for 4 days and slept 3 nights up in Mt Kenya National Park.In 4 days we walked for about 50km. The first day we started walking at an elevation of 2400 meters, and stopped at Old Moses Camp at 3300 meters. It weather was very warm and sunny, but as soon as the sun went down, it was very cold. In less than a week, we went from Mombasa with 40degree C to -1 at Mt Kenya.

Up to the top we walked the Sirimon route. Next destination after Old Moses was Shipton Camp at 4200meters.

We stayed over night there and tried to sleep for a couple of hours before we started "the real hike" to point Lenana. It was a bunch of mice there, and once when I was in the bathroom, a mouse came running under the door. I also had to get up in the middle of the night, and it was so cold to get out of my sleepingbag. But then I couldn't find my flashlight. I was about to just try without it, but as soon as I put my feet on the floor, I could hear the mice running all over the floor. YACK!!

I didn't sleep very well, and we also got up at 2am, packed our bags and left the cabin. Luckily we had porters that carried most of our luggage, so we didn't had to bother with carrying all of that to the top. The last hike to the top was about 4km, but we used 3 hours. Not because it was very hard, but because we had to take it very slow, so we wouldn't get sick because of the high elevation. We also took some pills to help our body get use to the thin air.

We were at the top(point Lenana at 4985meter) around 6 o'clock, right before sunrise. So we were able to stand on the top and watch the sun rise over Kenya. It was absolutely awesome. Very beautiful!!!

All 6 of us managed to make it all the way to the top(Simon is taking the picture..) In the middle of the picture, you can see our guide Charles. He was very nice and helped us a lot.

When you are hiking, it's very important with water and food. We had our very special cook who made very lovely food.

This is a rock hyrax. We saw a lot of them. They are very special animals. When they find a mate they stay truth to the other until one of them die. And then the other one jumps out of a cliff and commits suicide. True love!?!

Well! WE MADE IT...
What doesn't kill you make your stronger!

What a wonderful maker!!!

Your love, O LORD, reaches to the skies.

Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,

Your justice like the great deep.

O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.

How priceless is your unfailing love!

Both high and low among men

find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house;

you give them drink from your river of delights.

For with you is the fountain of life;

in your light we see light

Well, folks...!

Im back in Nairobi, but just for a little while. We came back this afternoon at 6, but are leaving again tomorrow at 7am. This time we are going to do something that Im really exited about... We are hiking Mount Kenya.... The tallest mountain in Kenya, and second tallest in Africa(I think...). If we reach the top we will be at an elevation of 4985meters. I don't know if we will be able to get all the way up. But it will be a nice trip....

I will put more pictures on here later, but I dont have the time tonight... I need to pack my bags for tomorrow. But I had to show you how brave I was last week. I held a really big snake!!! Isn't that cool?!?
