submission - project uno

this is the submitted set of designs for 'project 1 - mobile icon & wallpaper design'

the vectors -

the pixels -

the wallpapers -

so let's briefly explain our rational -
1) imagine that in the world we live today, there are no roman alphabets but instead, there's arabic calligraphy, used all around the world, how would that be like?  so we just took this opportunity to explore that possibility.
2) imagine a harmonious & peaceful world where there is tolerance, understanding & respect among people of various religions. in this context, islam is the focal point as as of now, there is widespread negativity about this religion.
3) to explore the application of islamic/arabic calligraphy outside the religious context & beyond the traditional stereotypes.
4) simply to explore the beauty of islamic/arabic calligraphy.

& a few questions,

what do you think the icons best represent?
were the icons easily recognizable?
what do you like most for each icons?
what do you have to say regarding the colours used for the icons?
what would be your suggestion for improvement?

please leave your comments at the 'COMMENT' section. thanks.

palettes de couleurs

One of our weekly assignments require us to produce/create at least 30 colour palettes which was an interesting assignment indeed (yes, 30 to the unbelievers).  So we went scouring the net for photos with colours that interest us & we also searched the archives of our own photos for references which we can extract the colours from.
  here's our top picks -

the making of : project uno, mobile icon & wallpaper design

this is our first project for multimedia digital design: design a series of mobile icons & wallpapers based the theme "fantasy".  When we first got the brief, we were excited by the prospect of the theme "fantasy" which means infinite possibilities through imagination.  So we started off with a mind map that branched off into various fantasies (e.g. myths, sexual fantasies, gods, aliens, the supernatural) & each eventually branched off into a multitude of other associations & imaginations, so we ended with shitloads of possible themes to work on.  After considering the practicality, versatility & interest of each respective theme, we finally managed to narrow them down to 7, which after consultation with our lecturer & tutor, were then futher reduced to 2 specific themes - islamic/arabic calligraphy & dystopian ministry logos/badges.

Next up, is to do research on the themes.
here are some snapshots from our research -

we were just mesmerized by the beauty & finesse of islamic/arabic calligraphy that we we're very interested in creating icons based on this theme, moreover we intended to introduce a new perspective on this calligraphy as being contemporary & not confined within religious context, as people would usually associate calligraphy with the traditional & in this context, with islam.

this theme was inspired by a book, '1984' by george orwell, an English novel about life in an authoritarian dystopia, which we were reading at the time we got the brief for this project.  So we thought why not do a series of icons based dystopian ministry logos/badges, as we were always very interested & intrigued by the topic of dystopias & totalitarianism.
