Memorial Day weekend in Oregon

Time at the beach is never wasted!

We had the most incredible weekend in Oregon.
Driving South we found some really cool bridges..

When we crossed the river into Oregon...We found the sun!
The campsite had the most beautiful, clean, private beach and we loved every minute....

We enjoyed all our meals in the main lodge and even played a few games.  The food was wonderful!
We loved the hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls.

One day we went exploring in Tillamook....Have you tried their cheese and ice cream?

We even found some post cards!

We drove the scenic coast route home and found a n octopus tree and a lighthouse.

But the best part of all was spending 2 days on the beach soaking in the sun.

Ethan was a great driver....really
I am so tempted to go back for another family camping trip over Labor Day weekend.  I'll bring the birthday cake, you bring the sleeping bags and we'll meet in Cloverdale Oregon.....Everyone is invited!

Time to GET AWAY

I had such an amazing time camping in Oregon and hiking the trail of 10 waterfalls that I decided it was time to return.  (This time with Ethan)  Memorial day weekend we will be  Beach camping at Cape Lookout in  Cloverdale Oregon.  We are taking time to sleep in, relax, spend a day on the beach, relax, make memories around a campfire, and relax.  There will be sunshine all day Saturday.  I am so excited.....I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight....

This is Cape Lookout

There is a sand castle contest........and hikes through the tide pools.

A lighthouse to explore....

And sunsets....We may even stop for cheese and hummus in Tillamook
I love camping on the beach in a tent!
Hope everyone has a relaxing Memorial Day weekend and   Way to Go....all you who are officially on Summer Vacation.

Remembering shoes, finding shoes, and thinking about SHOES

Wes and Jessica Womble, Happy Anniversary. Has it really been 4 years? According to my "Hallmark Gold Crown" bag, the traditional gift 4 your 4th wedding anniversary is linen/silk. Wow! The modern gift is electrical appliances--that sounds more practical. Congratulations you two. Hey Jessica, do you remember what shoes you wore on your wedding day?

Four years ago, for Wes and Jessica's wedding I purchased a pair of darling white sandals. I STILL HAVE THEM! (some things are timeless) I was delighted to discover that Elaine Wilson had almost the same pair of "classic" white sandals.

These are the white sandals I purchased:

Elaine and I were talking  about shoes at Lloyd and Amy's wedding.  Can you guess which shoes belong to Elaine, Brenda and Michael?

Did you know Michael is as tall as Ethan? 6'2"  (That's a hint)
Amy's bridesmaids wore really uncomfortable shoes that day.  They looked fantastic with the little black bows and feathers on the side...

I thought the purple nail polish was a very nice touch...

Well, since the wedding Elaine and I have been talking about shoes.  We have challenged each other to find:

  1. Shoes for Brenda and Michael's wedding in August

  2. Some casual summer shoes

  3. A pair of GREEN shoes
I am always up for a challenge.
Elaine, I went shopping at Payless Shoes and found these comfortable canvas shoes for summer.
The box says:  they are a brown and creme cammies.
I like them because I can work in my yard and they won't  show dirt.  Even if you zoom in and look close---no green
Next I went to American Eagle and found the perfect pair of shoes for Brenda's wedding.
Her colors are purple & green.

What do you think?

The heel is not too highs and the ruffles.....They aren't purple but they ARE stylish!
The hardest pair to find was: GREEN SHOES.  Do they make green shoes?  Do people buy and wear green shoes?  I found these at Fred Meyer & yes, I believe they would glow in the dark.....Ethan loves them!

My mom bought a pair of new sandals for Lloyd and Amy's wedding but she chose to wear comfortable ones instead.  She is so beautiful and wise...

What shoes did I wear to the glamorous, romantic Wilson wedding?

Clint took this picture, but it does not show my shoes...

If anyone else would like to post the pair of shoes they wore for their wedding, we would love to see them.  Or even your favorite pair of shoes & why.  How many shoes do you need?  Do women need more than men?  Can you really survive with just 5?
One thing I really admire about Amy is her style in shoes.  Amy always wears very flattering shoes and has amazing handbags too.

Just for the record....I really feel most comfortable when I am not wearing shoes.

Temple Worship

Lloyd and Amy...thanks for reminding me and teaching me how beautiful eternal love is!

My younger sister, Jewel, took photographs of temple doors last year.  Both of my sisters remind me to always have strength and determination, ever being worthy to enter temple doors.
HIS GUESTS
"A Temple is the Lord's house, and when we enter his house, we enter as his guests.  Thus, we should do everything possible to keep the Lord's house holy, unpolluted, clean and sweet."  Spencer W. Kimball

Three girls... Sisters.....Together....At the temple

"Your endowment is to receive all those ordinances in the house of the Lord...to enable you to walk back into the presence of the Father, passing the angels who stand as sentinels...."
Brigham Young

"In the temple we face the sunlight of truth.  The light of the temple, that understanding, shines upon us as does the light of the sun.  And the shadows of sin and ignorance and error, of disappointment and failure, fall behing us.  Nowhere quite equal the temple."
Boyd K. Packer

"IN THE TEMPLE we receive the highest ordinance available to men and women, the sealing of husbands and wives together for eternity,"
   Lorenzo Snow

"When sweethearts kneel at the temple alter and are joined by the power of the holy priesthood for time and all eternity, an eternal family is organized and is created.  It is to exist throughout all eternity.."
 David B. Haight

Thoughts on Temple Worship.... For the Wilson Family

The last time Jolene Wilson entered the temple, she was attending James and Lindsey's wedding ceremony.  In the month's leading up to my daughters wedding I was concerned, troubled, unsettled and so I would go to Jolene's bedroom to visit with her and feel of her strength and courage.  Jolene's bedroom became a very sacred, quiet, sanctuary where I felt the spirit.  It was like going to the temple to curl up with her and talk....I would share my troubled heart-felt concerns and she would listen.....and respond:  "That doesn't matter Vanee'"  Gently, patiently, she taught me about eternal truths and how to hold on and focus on my Heavenly Father's eternal blessings.
Now Jolene's children are preparing to enter the temple and be sealed for time and all eternity in THE HOUSE OF THE LORD.  Because I love Jolene so much, I want to share wisdom of the Prophets reguarding temple Worship and also some photo's.

A gift of love, from a mom above..........

The Seattle Washington Temple grounds....

Jolene set a goal to attend the temple once a week while Lloyd served his mission to Argentina.  I helped her finish that goal and have continued the tradition of attending every week.
I saw this tree last week and thought of Lloyd's and Amy's wedding in 9 days.

"Every soul when he comes here should be at peace in his own heart, his feelings should be at peace toward every other person in the world;  he should have no hard feelings toward anyone.  There should be no feelings of competition, no feelilngs of jealousy, nothing but the Spirit of the Living God and love toward our fellow men and toward each other, for here in his house we literally stand in the presence of the Lord."----Marion G. Romney

Congratulations Mike and Brenda.  You have officially been engaged for 6 days.
Lloyd and Amy you will enter the Salt Lake Temple in 9 days

Working Outside in the Yard

Friday, the "Yard Waste" container was emptied so I decided it was time to go pull weeds, dig for rocks and plant some flowers.  It wasn't that warm, but I am trying to get the front yard cleaned up. I was listening to the birds and thinking...yup it's spring.  As I glanced up the road I noticed a police car with flashing lights racing toward me.  "That's new...I wonder what's up?"
"Get inside your home and lock the doors!"  he shouted and then sped down the street.  I gathered up my tools and went inside the house.  Now what do I do?
Curious, I called 9-1-1
"What is the nature of your emergency?"
A police car just drove by and told me to get inside and lock the doors.  Am I in danger?
After a pause, she said, "Yes, they are looking for someone."
'What did he do?"
She couldn't share that information.
"Was it in my neighborhood?"
"Yes"
"What should I do?"
"Stay inside and call us if you see anything suspicious"
I went to the computer.  They were reporting that a guy had stabbed someone and the police were trying to locate him.  There were so many police cars, fire trucks, etc. that you could not even drive to my home.  Everyone came out of their home to see what was going on.  Aparently a 20 year old thought it would be safe to hide down inside a porta-potty at Totem Falls Elementary.  After he was captured, they hosed him off with the fire truck.  That's got to sting and stink.
Hiding at an Elementary school?   Down inside a Honey Bucket?  I am so thankful that he was found.  I hope each of you had a memorable Friday night as well.

Learning more each day.....

My daughter, Lindsey Potts,  just posted  details on her blog creatively introducing me to  the vogelkop bower bird. I have become a birder of sorts myself.  Please enjoy my  intriguing miracles of the last few months.

For Christmas I recieved this charming, hand painted bird house from my mother.  She has always been inspired in sharing her gifts of love....

A few months ago Mom and I spent a week in Southern California at the Olpin Beach house....

This is a fun quilt Jan had made which captured how I felt...

One day Owen Olpin took us "Birding"

We  were lucky enough to spot a couple of "love birds" on the beach just before sunset...

In Oregon I discovered this abandoned nest.  Note the beautiful use of moss....
Last Tuesday, at Highland Park I heard some loud tap, tap tapping.

Another new home under construction in the neighborhood.....

I would like to dedicate this post to my Sister Jewel who has finally earned the title of
"Empty Nester"....Congrats and Happy Birthday ...may you always keep working, building, painting and dreaming.
