Web Design 2- Project Concept Proposal (Poh Kong)

Project Definition

I got a brief which was redesign a commercial website (www.pohkong.com.my). It was given by lecturer. My mission was to edesign the layout of that website, make it more to user friendly & attractive, learn the concept & propose in a better way.

Acording to my research, Poh Kong today has burgeoned into Malaysia's largest jewellery retail chain store with a network of more than 90 outlets nationwide in 23 locations.
The Group is an integrated jeweller with principal activities in gold refining, designing, manufacturing, trading, supplying and retailing of gold ornaments, jewelleries and precious stones.

I need to create no less than 8 HTML pages, fully functional website that shows at least 3 levels of content structure. The website must remain useful & compelling to the needs of both clients & the audience. Besides that, I;m not allowed to change the logo, identity & reposition the brand.

Current Site's Analysis Goals
This website is an integrated jeweller with principal activities in gold refining, designing, manufacturing, trading, supplying and retailing of gold ornaments, jewelleries and precious stones. The website layout design should be in elegent or luxury feeling but overall the colour is dull. Beside that, the site structure too boxy & din't have hierarchy, font size a bit small, too many informations & fell dizzy. The site map at the bottom also not functional.Things that need to refine were the font size, overall the layout design into elegent or luxury feeling, have hierarchy, summery or rearrange the information in better way so that when reading won't feel dizzy & lenghty.
So, my site's goal is to create a feeling of everlasting for couples who are getting married, and jewels are a form of trust and luxury, wearing them together.

Client's Analysis
In year 1976, Dato’ Eddie Choon, POH KONG’s Executive Chairman and Group Managing Director, started business in jewellery retailing as one of the founders of the Company when he established Poh Kong Jewellers (PKJ), a partnership at Jalan 52/4, Petaling Jaya on March 26.

In year 1982
, Poh Kong Jewellers (PKJ) expanded its operations with the opening of its first branch in SS2 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan taking a retail space of 1,500 sq ft and a staff force of 20. 1983 - 1992,PKJ opened more branches in the 80’s until the early 90’s.In year 1995, PKJ signed a licensing agreement with Walt Disney Company as exclusive distributor of its characters in gold in Malaysia.1998, it listed in The Malaysia Book of Records as the Largest Jewellery Retail Chain.The Ministry of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs awarded PKJ and subsidiaries in the Group the Fair Prize Shop Awards 2005 – 2006 in the Jewellery Category in recognition of the Company’s outstanding contributions to the country’s economy in year 2006.

Besides that, POH KONG raised RM100,000 for the Nanyang Press Foundation for education and training of underprivileged youths, through a charity campaign launched in its 50 retail outlets nation-wide in year 1999.In year 2007, POH KONG was recognized and conferred the 2007 Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands Gold Award in the Jewellery Shop category on May 7. The Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands Survey, partnered with Nielsen Media Research, is recognized as one of the most transparent branding surveys in the Asian region.Intrade Malaysia ‘07 was organized by Matrade and supported by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

POH KONG signed an exclusive distribution and marketing agreement on December 3 with Schoeffel which gives the Company the territorial rights to promote and expand the Schoeffel brand in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Short & Long Term Site Goals
I think that they can update their website more often. They can
state out some special offer promotionson certain festive like Mother's Day or fair twice in a year. Besides that, they also can give some voucher to those who buy jewellery up to RM800. The banner in the main page can be update oftenly, like promote their latest products, promotions, etc. By these, it will attract more people to visit their website. POH KONG also can collect address from the customers & send newsletter or some latest products broucher to their house. Other than that, POH KONG also can promote them to join as their customer members. To those who are member, they may have some special prices for certain products.

Target Audience
Their products are quite wide & have 6 collections which are:

2. diamond Collection
3. Disney Collection
4. Festive Collection
5. Romance Collection
6. Gold Bar Collection
Those products are more to mature
adults who are getting marry or propose or as birthday & festive like Mother's Day present, young and trendy generation & children of all ages.
