Movie Merge Poster

This was an assignment for Professional Practice. We were given two lists of movies and had to choose one from each list to merge together to create a new movie, then make a poster for it. I mixed Farenheit 451 and Army of Darkness. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.
I've been called out on this being cheesy, but really I think cheesy belongs within this context. I couldn't imagine this movie being anything but cheesy. The cheesyness really was on purpose, honest, lol.

Black Dahlia Gig Poster

A gig poster for a hardcore band called The Black Dahlia Murder. Did this one for class. I'm pretty happy with the finish. It's definately a bit darker (and sleezier, haha) than my normal work, but I like it.

Maybe 10-15 hours total, including sketching, type etc. Wacom, Photoshop CS3

Robots!!

Did some robot designs for my Professional Practice class. I had a good time with these, and eventually came up with a type of "back-story", if you will, for these guys, lol.

These are three different classes of an alien race of robots, who I've dubbed "The Swarm", that, within this story, are invading earth..

The Recon class, who I've been calling the Cute Bots, are dropped first onto earth. They are about the size of a large toy, and can travel around the earth freely, scoping out cities and gathering information disguised as just that, toys. Despite their cute appearance, they have strong, sharp, nasty little fingers, and their heads open up on the top to release wirey tentacles that can be used as weapons, but also for tapping into other electronic/mechanical systems..

Above the Recon class is the Melee class. Once the Queen and the Recon classes have established their positions on a planet, the war units get sent in. The melee class lead the front lines. Their giant wheel base offers them superior speed, and often use this speed along with their large mass, charging head first into obstacles, or piercing things with their giant spike as they charge it. On their backs they have a device that doubles as both an energy cannon and a rocket thruster. They use the thrusters to give themselves an extra boost if trying to clear large gaps or jumping upward to a higher vantage point. While in the air, their tiny glider wings help steer them. The cannon is used by leaning forward and planting both limbs into the ground, forming a tripod with the wheel, so that the robots back, and the cannon on it, point directly forward at the target..

Last is the Queen class. The Queen is dropped down to the earth in a larvae form. The larvae is tiny and eventually picks out a capable victim, linking itself into the spinal column and brain by attaching itself behind the neck. From there it can both read and control the brain of the host human, and slowly builds up its true form around the host from any scrap and electronic devices it can find. The Queen uses the human brain to analyze the culture and thought process of the people they are about to go to war with, and using this knowledge to predict what the enemies may do, as well as how to communicate with them. Not only is the queen tapped into this single human brain, but also functions as the sole brain behind the attacking units of the swarm. The queen sees everything that every single unit can see, and commands them all at once. I figured the skinny spines coming out of the Queen's back function like antenna, sending and receiving the signals from the Swarm. .

Fun project overall. A whole lot of work designing and figuring these guys out. I think I'll do some more boards visually explaining what I just wrote here. Heck, maybe I'll even model some of these in 3D. We'll see what time allows..

Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate, get it? :)

This was a rush job, but I'm actually really happy with it. C.F. Payne, in order to test our abilities to concept and illustrate something in a very short amount of time, surprised us by giving us an assignment on Thursday night which we were to thumbnail, concept out, and finish in class the next day. The words I was supposed to illustrate were "Hot" and "Chocolate".

After working on top of a blown up thumbnail of mine from the night before, I finished this in class in about 4-5 hours. I did use some photo manipulation at the top of the volcano due to the time constraint.

Photoshop, tablet, laptop, etc.

Arcane Assassin

Just an exercise in a quicker character design. I'd say she's about 80% done right now. I still need to work in those finer details that'll make this sing, a bit more design stuff and add some missing things.

Some friends and I are trying to do a new character design every week in our free time aside from school work, so its tough to spend a lot of time on these.

I'll get back to this and finish it soon, but figured I'd post the first rev, maybe 8-10 hours into it including concepting, drawing, etc.

Created with the usual tools.

Finally, an Update prt 2: The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

And the second, C.F. Payne, for his class which I am enrolled in, tasked me with the visualization and recreation of a lost ancient wonder of the world. I just couldn't pass up on recreating the Hanging Gardens.
This turned out to be a lot tougher than I thought it would. I went through a lot of different compositions trying to make this thing look epic. At first, I started with size and structure that would be more realistic to how they may have been in real life. After a good time trying at that, I took it off the deep end with a bit of artistic license. and pushed the epicness a bit more.
Lots of work, but a fun time. I need more practice painting foliage, heh.
The usual devices were used in the creation of this piece as well.

Finally, an Update prt 1: Archeologists of the Future

The illustration was supposed to be about Archeologists, so I figured I'd push it a bit further. Here we have some archeologists far in the future, in a civilation that has rebuilt after a massive nuclear apocalypse. They are digging us up, pretty much, as shown by the iphone and golden arches.
Photoshop, Tablet, and much sleep deprivation.
