Today is a Big Day

Today is a day for the books. Three great things are going down today. All of them don't happen all that often and one of them has never happen and may never happen again.

ONE.
World Cup Finals between Netherlands and Spain
Spain has never made it to the finals ever (fyi this is my team). Netherlands has never won and has not been to the finals since 1978. So needless to say its going to be an amazing game. Oh can't forget the octopus has chosen Spain to win.

TWO:
Its Free SLURPEE Day! Every July 7th. I got mine last night at 2 am on my way home and will most likely go get another one later today.

THREE:
Today we are having a total eclipse of the sun. You need to be out in the Pacific Ocean to see it. Easter Island is the best place to see it. The next one will not happen again until 2012.

So enjoy this day in history.

Every Dog Has Its Day

Yesterday between soccer and weddings me and my friend headed over to the Los Alamitos Race Course to be a part of the 15th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals.
aka The Wiener Dog races
If you have never been to a wiener dog race you need to go. For a number of reasons, one is just the fact that you get to see over 100 wiener dogs in one place. Also for all the sites, people love to dress up their wiener dogs so you will always see high doggie fashion on tap. Can't forget getting to hang out with America's Most Wanted Hot Dog "Hot Dog Man".
All in all it was fun looking forward to next year.

Why Never To Ask Favors From The Designers

So this came my way today and I just had to share this with everyone. I am sorry but this is very funny to me for many of reasons. One seeing I am a designer and have got this question before and two I don't really care for cats that much cause most of them make my eyes itch. But also this is very sad at the same time. I hope you enjoy.

(Sorry Elise if this hurts your feelings in advance)

Story goes :

Shannon (the secretary) has lost her cat and has asked David (the graphic designer) to help with a lost poster. This is their email correspondence...

Hi
I opened the screen door yesterday and my cat got out and has been missing since then so I was wondering if you are not to busy you could make a poster for me. It has to be A4 and I will photocopy it and put it around my suburb this afternoon.

This is the only photo of her I have she answers to the name Missy and is black and white and about 8 months old. missing on Harper street and my phone number.
Thanks Shan.

Dear Shannon,
That is shocking news.
Although I have two clients expecting completed work this afternoon, I will, of course, drop everything and do whatever it takes to facilitate the speedy return of Missy.
Regards, David.

Dear Shannon,
It's a design thing. The cat is lost in the negative space.

Thats just stupid. Can you do it properly please? I am extremely emotional over this and was up all night in tears. you seem to think it is funny. Can you make the photo bigger please and fix the text and do it in colour please. Thanks.

Dear Shannon,
Having worked with designers for a few years now, I would have assumed you understood, despite our vague suggestions otherwise, we do not welcome constructive criticism. I don't come downstairs and tell you how to send text messages, log onto Facebook and look out of the window. I have amended and attached the poster as per your instructions.
Regards, David.

This is worse than the other one. can you make it so it shows the whole photo of Missy and delete the stupid text that says missing missy off it? I just want it to say Lost.

yeah can you do the poster or not? I just want a photo and the word lost and the telephone number and when and where she was lost and her name. Not like a movie poster or anything stupid. I have to leave early today. If it was your cat I would help you. Thanks.

Dear Shannon,
I don't have a cat. I once agreed to look after a friend's cat for a week but after he dropped it off at my apartment and explained the concept of kitty litter. I have attached the amended version of your poster as per your detailed instructions.

I know, but that one is cute. As Missy has quite possibly met any one of several violent ends, it is possible you might get a better cat out of this. If anybody calls and says "I haven't seen your orange cat but I did find a black and white one with its hind legs run over by a car, do you want it?" you can politely decline and save yourself a costly veterinarian bill.

Earthquake

We just had a 5.7 earthquake. And let me tell you where you don't want to be. You DO NOT want to be in a chair next to 40 feet of pallets. OH by the way see that chair. I just happen to be sitting in it when the earthquake hit. Didn't I just say it is where you dont want to be. It is the first time in my life I have been scared of an earthquake, most of the time I don't even get up from where ever I am at. Just so you don't get scared. I got away with out a scratch. Did you?

3rd, 4th and 5th of July

Wow what an AMAZING weekend! So much to do in so little time.
This had to be one of the best 4th's ever. It had the makings of it from the start. It all started on Friday with getting off work early. Then heading down to San Diego to go dancing with some ladies on a boat. After that came surfing on Saturday. It wasn't to great but I knew what was on tap for Monday so it didn't bum me out at all. Then comes the best day, Sunday the 4th of July.
It started out like any other Sunday wake up late, go to church and then it got interesting. After church head over to my second families home for some YUMMY ribs and chicken with all the fixings. After that we headed down the street to the our good friends the Shield's for another BBQ and to get the 4th really started.
Now let me tell you something about this neighborhood. I have been lighting off fireworks here for almost 12 years. And every year it gets better. But this year was by far the best.
NO COPS!!!
Who know why but for some reason they were not on patrol this year. And it showed, now every year it seem about every other house or so has the really good fireworks. But this year it seemed like EVERY house had them. Watch the video to get the full idea of the war zone it was.

Now its not just about the fireworks here, its also about the block party. On one side its a Biker Gang next to them is a DJ playing tunes all night for the whole street. Then we also have these kids a few doors down putting on a rock show and everyone just hanging out being friends.
After the fireworks me and Kevin headed over to this girl's house for some midnight hot tubbing and cookies.

Next comes Monday and the BIG surf. This swell had been on tap for almost a week and everyone was frothing at the mouth for it to get here. It was going to be 8 to 10 feet almost every where. I started at 38th street in Newport and then moved my way down to the Point. For some tube time. After that I headed down to the wedge to watch some people get slammed for a bit (see photo above).

Next I met up with some friends for lunch and then off to the Happiest Place On Earth. To ride some rides and watch some more fireworks. It was a great way to end the perfect long 4th of July weekend. Hope you had a good time also.

Futsal

Tonights post is about Futsal. Last night I went to play indoor soccer at the church, and when I arrived no one had a ball with air in it. I had my futsal ball with me so I could work on some ball skills while I waited to play. For those of you who don't know Futsal is like soccer, same rules and all just a little different. It is a game to show off foot skills, speed and touch. It is played with a smaller heavier ball on a indoor smaller hard pitch. Unlike indoor you don't use the walls. So when I pulled it out it was funny to see people faces. I heard is that a kids balls, why is it so heavy, and it doesn't bounce very well does it. But it ended up be a perfect ball for the night. This was my first night playing in about a year. I am looking forward to playing soccer every Wednesday night to get me back in rhythm for the league I am joining with some coworkers from Billabong (look for more of that to come later). Below are some videos of Futsals best. I hope you like them and remember always play JOGA BONITO!
