Inkspirational Challenge - Colour Challenge

Hello!  It's a wonderful day for a new challenge, don't ya think?!  We've got a new one for you over at Inkspirational.  It's a colour challenge this time.

Now you can use red or pink tones on your card, as well as black, white, cream, green leaf colours and natural colours for skin, fur or hair.  But that's it!  :-).  This was quite a challenge for me as it is not my natural inclination to use pink tones.  I could have gone red but I wanted to challenge myself. I'm not a pink girl.  I do not own any pink clothing.  It's just not me.  However, some people can really pull it off fabulously.  On me, I look like a giant gumball.  LOL.  Anyway, I managed to come up with something.  Check it out...

I'm in need of some birthday cards as February and March are heavy birthday months for us.  Both my husbands and my birthday are in March and my sons is in February.  Plus about four other family members are in one of those two months.  Crazy!  Anyway, here's how I made my card.  I masked off a diagonal section and sponged some pink ink.  It was way too bright a pink so I took some brown ink and lightly sponged it around which gave the pink a more dusty look.  I then took my pink metallic gelato and applied it to my butterfly stamp (STAMPlorations, Trendy Butterflies set).  I added water to the stamp with a brush and stamped away on my pink section,  I removed the mask and let it dry.  I added a small strip of silver glitter tape (Darice) and then stamped my sentiment (Stampabilities) in grey.  Very CAS but quite pretty I think.  It's too bad you can't see the shimmer from the gelato. It's lovely.

Doo-Bee Doo-Bee Doo-Bah

You're probably wondering if I've completely lost it because of my title.  Well, it makes sense when you see my card and if you have kids who watch the cartoon Phineas and Ferb.  It quite a hilarious show.  These two brothers (Phineas and Ferb) are having fun on summer vacation devising all sorts of interesting inventions.  They are super smart and very likable.  Their older sister (Candace) tries to bust them constantly and always fails.  One of the quirkier aspects is they decided when they wanted a pet they would get a platypus.  It just so happens this platypus (named Perry) is a secret agent, Agent P.  Too funny.  Anyway, the title comes from the song they sing when Perry turns into Agent P.  My son LOVES this show.  This year for his birthday party he wanted a Phineas and Ferb theme.  So I made his invitations after the image of Perry.  Take a look...

Perry is a kind of teal colour so I used teal cardstock for my base.  I printed off a Perry face and coloured (using Spectrum Noir markers) and fussy cut it out.  I adhered it to my card base and then drew in the eye lines with a black marker.  These invites make me smile.  My son loves them.  :-)

OLCCC #2 Reminder

Hi everyone!  This is a reminder for our second challenge over at One Layer Christmas Cards.  There's a little less than a week left to get your cards linked up!

We have a few more inspiration cards up on the blog to help you get the ball rolling.  I made another card with our twist too.

I made a card base from aqua cardstock and stamped several different types of snowflakes (large and medium snowflakes by Hero Arts, smaller snowflakes by Technique Tuesday) in white and embossing in white.  Then I attached a strip of silver glitter tape (Darice).  I finished with a sentiment (Neat & Tangled) stamped in black.  I love this colour combo.

Together Always

Hey everyone!  Just a quick post before the big storm hits us here in the Maritimes.  They warn us not to be surprised if the power goes out.  Oh Joy!  -13 out there today and no power (possibly)?  Good thing we have our wood stove for heat.  Crossing fingers and toes the power stays on.  :-)

Anyway, here's my card....

I took a white piece of cardstock and stamped some little hearts (Verve) and embossed them in white.  Then I sponged Ruby Red, Rich Razzleberry (both SU!), and Sea Glass (SSS) ink on it.  Then I splattered a little bit of water for interest.  I die cut the word "together" twice (using my Slice), once in white and again in red and adhered them to the panel.  I then stamped the "you & me" and the "always" in dove gray (StazOn).  Then I glued on a few sequins (Neat & Tangled).  I attached the panel to my white card base with some foam dots.  I really like how this turned out.

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #2

Hi there!  It's a new challenge over at One Layer Christmas Card Challenge blog!  Once again it's anything goes but this time the optional twist is an intricate one.

See what I mean?  Get it?  :-).  Snowflakes are intricate.  I know, I know.  I'm a big geek.  :-P.  Anyway, snowflakes or no snowflakes, it needs to be one layer.  We are okay with a little washi tape or a few sequins, just don't go crazy.  (It's too late for me!  Save yourselves!  Oh man, I need help.  LOL). I kind of went a bit mixed media for my card.  Check it out...

So, using a Crafters Workshop stencil, I created the dotted background by sponging some blue/green ink over the stencil.  I stamped a few small snowflakes (Hero Arts) in SSS sea glass ink.  Then using the negative from a die cut snowflake (cut using my Slice machine) I sponged heirloom gold perfect pearls mist using it like a stencil.  Then I spritzed the mist a couple of times over the entire card.  I just can't stop using this mist!  It's just so pretty IRL.  I wish you could see the shimmer.  Once that dried I stamped my sentiment (Inkadinkado) in black.  Then I took an old stencil that has 6 different snowflakes on it, chose one, and scraped some embossing paste over it overtop of the big gold snowflake.  Once it dried, I glued on some sequins (Neat and Tangled).  I quite like the artsy, mixed media feel to this card.  Brings back fond memories of art school.  :-)

Playing With Gelatos

Hey there!  Just wanted to do a quick post to show you a card I made with my new gelatos.  My husband got me a big set for Christmas and I'm finally getting to play with them.  :-)  I decided to use the foam stamp that came in my kit for my first experiment.  Take a look...

I coloured right on the stamp and then blended the colours a bit with my finger and then spritzed with some water.  Next I stamped on my paper.  I tried to create a rainbow effect with my colours.  I love the watercolour look to this.  I stamped my sentiment (STAMPlorations) and mounted my panel with some foam dots to my card base and called it done!  :-)  I used the sketch over at CAS(E) This Sketch for my layout.  I changed only where the sentiment was located.  Love the bright colours against the white cardstock.  I'll be playing some more with my gelatos and I'll share my results soon.

Inkspirational Challenge - Designer's Choice - Ombre

Hello everybody!  It's that time again for another challenge over at Inkspirational!  This time our lovely and talented DT member, Pia, had the choice of what the challenge would be.  She chose Ombré.  Who doesn't love the look of ombré?

Not sure what ombré means?  Here's a definition:  Ombré is when the colour is graduated in tone eg. a colour that fades from dark grey to light grey.  Of course any colour can be used on the project.  Hope that helps.  Now here's my card...

I almost created another one layer card.  Apparently I'm obsessed.  LOL.  I started by creating an ombré background by masking off a strip of my white card base and then sponging Memento Cantaloupe ink  from dark to light.  Then I stamped my foliage and dandelion in the cantaloupe colour a few times and then stamped my fox in the same colour.  Then I stamped the foliage and dandelion again in grey and the black.  I lightly sprayed my heirloom gold Perfect Pearls mist over top.  I'm apparently obsessed with it as well.  :-). Then I removed the mask and created another to sponge a narrow strip using black and grey ink to create another ombré effect.  I stamped my sentiment in black and cut it out and adhered it with some foam dots.  All the stamps used in this card are from a set called What A Fox, by Fiskars.  This is my first time using this set so it is NBUS!  I got it quite a while ago on our last trip to Bangor, ME.  I really like the foliage and the fox.

Simply The Best

Hi all!  Just a quick post to link up to some challenges. I'll try not to babble on too much. :-). Take a look at my card...

I tried out a new stamp I got from Michaels with a gift card from Christmas. It's by Heidi Swapp. It is a huge wood grain stamp and it was on clearance!  Bonus!  :-). I stamped it with soft suede (SU!) on white cardstock and cut a strip of it to fit on the side of my card. I added a small strip if orange underneath one side. I stamped my sentiment (Wallflower set by CAS-ual Fridays) I the corner in black. Then I stamped my butterflies (STAMPlorations, Trendy Butterflies set ) in blue, lime and yellow and fussy cut them out. I attached them to my card base. Love the colour combo. :-)

Hello Bow

Hiya!  It's been cold here again, unfortunately, in the Maritimes.  -25 (celcius) with windchill making it -33.  Brrrr...  Luckily that's been overnight.  During the day its a balmy -13 to -8.  :-P.  I'm sorry, but winter sucks.  It is going to be a bit warmer but with that comes the snow.  Can't wait until spring/summer!

Anyway, I digress.  (What else is new?)  Today I have a card that was inspired by a few challenges. It made me use some things I had been hoarding.  Check it out...

So, first I cut out my circle from white cardstock.  Then I sponged SSS Sea Glass ink creating an ombré effect.  Then I stamped my NBUS berry branch (Casual Comfort set by CAS-ual Fridays) in the sea glass, grey and black.  I did the stamping off technique with the grey to create even more depth.  Then I stamped my sentiment (Wallflower set by CAS-ual Fridays) in black.  I matted this with black and adhered it to my white card base.  I had these green felt bows I had gotten from
Michaels but never used.  So I attached one underneath my circle.  I added three white sequins (Neat and Tangled, Winter Wonderland mix) underneath the bow to finish it off.  Loving the colour scheme and that felt bow.  :-)

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge Reminder

I was a little more subtle with the red twist this time.  Just my tiny berries are red.  Here's how I made my card.  First I stamp my pine bough in forest moss distress ink and I sometimes would stamp twice before re-inking to get a lighter shade.  I added some pine boughs in mown lawn distress ink as well.  Then I took a paint brush and some water and lightly brushed it over top of my pine boughs to make the ink bleed a little bit.  Then I added my berries in Memento Lady Bug ink using some small dot stamp from the Wallflower set by CAS-ual Fridays.  Then I stamped my sentiment (STAMPlorations) in black.  Simple card to make, really, but I quite like the results.

Hello Butterfly

Hi there!  It's been a few days since my last post.  Things are getting back to normal after the holidays.  My son is back at school and is quite happy about it.  I love that he likes school so much.  It's been super cold here in the Maritimes.  Too cold for my liking.  It's warming up some today but it will bring snow which is not my favourite.  I'll take it over the cold though!

Anyway, I have a card to share today where I played around with some distress inks.  I now have two more colours of distress ink that I got for Christmas but I didn't use them for this card.  Go figure.  :-). In any case, here's my card...

I broke out my one of my big butterfly stamps (by Stampendous) and I dabbed my two colours of distress ink (broken china and forest moss) randomly around.  Then I spritzed some water on my card stock and stamped a couple of times.  I used the water lightly as I only wanted some slight bleeding.  Then, once that dried, I created a mask and I stamped the same butterfly in dove gray StazOn ink.  I stamped the sentiment (STAMPlorations) in black.  I took a white card base and adhered some strips of silver glitter tape (Darice) and then attached my butterfly panel.  I love the colours of this card.  And that glitter tape. So sparklely!

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #1

Hey everyone!  It the first challenge for the new challenge blog, One Layer Christmas Cards!  I'm very excited about being on this Design Team.  I'm among some very talented ladies and, as most of you are well aware, I love making Christmas cards!  Now some of you may be tired of making Christmas cards after the frenzy of making them for everyone just last month but just think if you made one Christmas card for every challenge we had you'd have a pretty nice stash all ready by next Christmas!  In any case, I hope to see some of you join in on the fun.  Be sure to check out the other DT girl's projects as well.  They are all amazing!

On to the challenge!  Like it will be for all challenges, its Anything Goes.  But there is an optional twist!  For this first challenge the twist is to use Red.

I have decided that I'm going to try and use the twist for each challenge so I've got some red in my one layer card.  Take a look...

So, first I masked of an area on a kraft card base where I stamped my poinsettia in red (STAMPlorations) by flipping it over and using the solid backside.  Then I stamped right side up with versamark and embossed in white.  I took the mask off and created another just above where I stamped my circle (Stampology) in black.  I removed this mask and created a small one under the poinsettia section to sponge a small stripe of black.  Using a ruler I drew a line between the two stamped sections with a gold pen.  Then I did the same above and below the sections but dragged the ruler through the ink several times to smear it somewhat.  Then I stamped my sentiment (Hero Arts) in versamark and embossed it in white.  It's amazing how something can seem to have many layers yet be just one.

Guest Designing at STAMPlorations - Sketch #25

Hi!  I'm guest designing over at STAMPlorations again!  This time it's for their sketch challenge #25. It is such an awesome sketch too!  Take a look...

So many possibilities!  I didn't change much as I really liked the sketch as it was.  I was able to use a new stamp set that Shery, owner/designer of STAMPlorations sent to me as a gift, for this card.  It's the new set called Trendy Butterflies.  Love this set!  Here's my card...

First I took my white card base and masked the edges.  I sprayed my heirloom gold perfect pearls mist and then removed the mask once it dried.  I trimmed a piece of gold glitter tape (it was too wide for my taste) and adhered it to the card.  I stamped my sentiment (from same STAMPlorations set) in black StazOn ink (I find that it works better overtop the perfect pearls mist).  I stamped my butterflies on white cardstock in broken china distress ink, SSS sea glass ink, and SU! bermuda bay ink, then fussy cut them out.  I attached them to the card with some foam dots.  This really is a lovely set.

Inkspirational Challenge - Prompt Word, "Note"

Greetings and Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a lovely time ringing in the New Year.  It was a quiet one for me and my family but I'm good with that.  :-)  I'm rather a homebody at heart.  Anyway, it's the first challenge of the new year for Inkspirational and it's a prompt word this time.

Interpret it as you will.  I was rather literal with my interpretation.  I got to try out some new inks I got for Christmas though, which was fun.  Check it out...

So, I stamped my feathers (STAMPlorations, Trendy Feathers set) in my new Memento inks (Dandelion, Cantaloupe, Tangelo, Lady Bug) along one side.  Then I used my Heirloom Gold spray (Perfect Pearls Mist) and sprayed overtop.  I then stamped my sentiment (same STAMPlorations set) in black.  I attached my panel to a kraft card base.  I love the brightness of this card. I am totally loving the Perfect Pearls mist too.  It's so sparkly but its kind of subtle.  I hope you can see it better in the detail photo.  It doesn't do it justice though.
