This blog needs to get a life. FOR REAL.

So many things have happened, the best and the not so good parts.

I can't believe I didn't tell you that I went to China. I went to Chengdu, a city in the province of Sichuan.

I spent a good 5 weeks( 4th September 2012 to 8th October 2012) there and I didn't regret any moment of it. It was such an awesome experience, of course it wouldn't have been so good without good company. The people that I went with were people whom I recognise as my course mates but don't know them. Turns out that they are a really really nice bunch of people and I'm really glad that I met them.

I actually feel like taking back my words on how friends you make in poly are not true. But I can't count my chicks right now. You won't know what will happen. But right now, I believe in them.
They are true and I shall be true too.

I can still remember how much reluctance I had felt the night before I flew for Chengdu. Why, why Celeste can't make it? I will be all alone. I don't want to leave my family, my bed, my comfortable life here and go out there with people I'm not familiar with, to room with girls whom already knew each other and might just outcast me.

I remember how a month before the trip I had tried to persuade Ms Foo to take me off the list of people going to Chengdu.
My reason was stupid. I know it and she knows as well. I talked to Ms Hong, I ranted to Mr Felix. They both encouraged me to stay.

I'm glad I didn't have a chance to pull out, if not I wouldn't have known such awesome people.

I wouldn't have known what it was like to climb over a fence into the school.

I wouldn't have tried KBOX for the first time in Chengdu and going back at 1am, way past our curfew of 11pm.

I wouldn't have eaten rabbit's head. (I know, gross but I just had to try it. I wrote about it for FA1)

I wouldn't have taken a 12 hour ride up to Jiu Zhai Gou. 九寨沟

I wouldn't have known how it felt like to be woken up by my friends, every day, every morning.

I wouldn't have known how glad to hear that there is no lessons that day the morning I wake up to knocking on my door.

I wouldn't have eaten urinating meatballs（撒尿牛丸）at Jin Li Street. 锦里

I wouldn't have eaten Smelly Toufu 臭豆腐 from a road side stall.

I wouldn't have drunk Buckwheat tea that tasted salty, oily and like sesame seeds.

I wouldn't have had a haircut and have my hair curled up like a Korean.

I wouldn't have ridden on a motorcycle behind the waterman.

I wouldn't have had milktea, eggtarts, pudding and grilled pig trotters given to me free by the man who delivers water to our dorm. (Aka The Waterman 丘金城, he gave it to me on the day we had to go back to Singapore.）

I wouldn't have gone to a Tibetan shack and eaten a Tibetan dinner.

I wouldn't have drunk rice wine of 50% alcohol.

I wouldn't have visited a pub and watched as Douglas play the keyboard on stage. (he was half drunk)

I wouldn't have drank 7 times in the course of 5 weeks.

I wouldn't have to tend to drunk Gloria.

I wouldn't have experienced the fast reckless driving of the cabs.

I wouldn't have seen little kids peeing and shitting on the floor, anywhere in the city.

I wouldn't have seen red pandas and baby pandas and giant pandas.

I wouldn't have shared stories about a particular friend with my dorm mates.

I wouldn't have smoked a puff of cigar from Zhuning.

I wouldn't have eaten skewers late at night. (quail eggs, brinjals, li3 ji1, mushrooms)

I wouldn't have raced with Jerome and made him crash into a roadside stall and we had to lie that he was drunk.

I wouldn't have wished that I could stay longer than 5 weeks in Chengdu.

The Chengdu trip was good.
Priscilla, Douglas, Faiz, Kimying, Gloria, Wanteng, Atika, Dennis, Nadine, Yeechun, Parthi, Nishan, Justin made it awesome.

Late nights

After weeks of late nights and early mornings, I can't seem o break the habit of staying up till the wee hours.

I really ought to be sleeping and studying for my two content heavy exams that's just next week.

Gosh, someone slap me now.


About the T-ara issue, people are still being very prejudice about it.
There are like angels and devils and the ostrich fans.

At least they are going to be appearing again, on camera.
Soyeon just recently had an interview for a new show Hyundae Lovers and obviously got asked about the whole incident. Shed tears and all.

She got into an accident a few days ago, it was a car that slipped on the wet road.
People are actually claiming that it's a set up.

Comeon' I won't deny that a set up like this is impossible but do you have to be so anal?

Just give them the benefit of doubt, it's not like you actually know them personally.

It was about 2.25am when the house phone rang thrice.
I was in the toilet minding my own business.
But the unusual phone call in the dead of the night set off all dreadful thoughts that flooded my mind.

I waited in silence for the slightest noise that could sound from my parents' room.
Nothing.
Was that talking that I hear? Did they pick up the phone?

I took a breath deeper than usual and stepped out of the toilet.
Nothing.

Holding on to that string of hope, I walked cautiously out of the kitchen, my ears pricked and my heart thumped in tandem.
Before I could heave a sigh of relief, I saw my mum.

She had stopped me in my tracks just before her room.

With teary eyes she told me, "Your grandma passed away".


She was 89 years old.

Assignment periods always get me thinking more than I ought to be.

I was pretty excited about the Cheng Du trip until I found out that there's a possibility that I will change class NEXT SEM because of this stupid trip.

Did I even tell you about my Chengdu trip? I will be going to China for 5 weeks. Imagine that.
Spicy food and squat toilets are not really my sorta thing.

I will be completing 2 of my modules in Chengdu so I will be free from two modules in my next semester of year 2.

Perfect Fifth

Tell me about it, this is the umpteenth time I have gone for VJC's annual guitar concert; Perfect Fifth.

Saw Audrey, Yanyou, Zhixin Zixing(thanks yanyou for correcting), Cheryl Ang, Celeste allllll seated at the front row of the ensemble and I felt really proud :) like a mother watching her daughters (wts)

But really, to see your juniors mature and have accomplishments, somehow I feel really really really glad for them.

Audrey's a student conductor, Cheryl's a treasurer, Yanyou's the president and Zixing and Celeste are section leaders.

Gosh, I am sooooo impressed and so proud of them.

Everytime I attend such events, my heart travels back to where it all began; Anglican High Secondary School.

Then I become emo again. emo. This is such an old school term; emo.

Had a mini belated celebration for Pearlyna and I.

Went to Nakhon Kitchen at Bedok for a Thai meal.
The first time I had a Thai cuisine, the pandan chicken is damnnnnn nice.
I'm so gonna bring my family there :)

Yunxuan bought a birthday cake and we kind of decided that in future we should just buy one bithday cake and celebrate everyone's birthday together, since Corinne's in March, Pearlyna's in April, Yunxuan and I are in May.

Went to Yunxuan's house to sing birthday song and cut cake, then we had a big chitchat session :)

Then the who came and finally xiao chen (pea's boyfriend) has someone to talk to ahahahah.

It was a great time, really hope to see those girls again :) sooooooooon

I Will Keep Trying

I have kept calm but I haven't move on.
If you guys have noticed, my blog has almost always had the headline

I guess it's also time to move on from that.

Reason? I have been awesome and keeping my calm for many things.

It has always been said in the past that T-ara's Jiyeon resembles Kim Tae Hee. Some people even refer to her as little Kim Tae Hee.

Titanic Exhibition Singapore 2012

It was 2nd April 2012, an exact of 100 days after the maiden voyage of Titanic on 2nd April 1912.

I went to the Titantic exhibition at MBS with Yunxuan yesterday.
We paid $25 each. $20 for the entrance and $5 extra to watch a documentary on the simulation of Titanic at the bottom of the sea. It's your choice whether you want to watch it or not.

Coincidentally, on the day of this exhibition, it was 9th September 2001, the day 911 happened.

The Titanic exhibition's really cool, I love how detailed the exhibition is, this is making me want to go to the Harry Potter one that will be coming after this!

Talk about coincidental, (well we forgot to ask the staff later on) before entering the exhibition we were given a boarding pass where we will be able to check if we survived or died at the end of the exhibition, coincidentally Yunxuan and I are are mother and daughter.
I'm the 46 year old mum and she's the 16 year old daughter.

Yunxuan and I had a fun time hopping to the music that accompanied us during the whole walk through the exhibition.

Besides artifacts that were displayed, they also brought in structures that look like part of the ship.
Showing us clearly how the grand stair way looked like, windows, the third class rooms, the corridor of first class decks. The promenade deck, where they had made pretend stars in the black sky and the shimmer of water over the deck.

These third class beds were given real mattresses, in other liners, third class rooms were only given straw as beds.

It was really beautiful, not forgetting the large slab of ice that resembles a miniature iceberg.
Yunxuan and I only had to place our hands there for less than 5 seconds and we were freezing already.
Imagine all those 1500 people who fell into the -0.5 degree celsius of the cold North Atlantic ocean.

The prices of the tickets were also revealed, Third Class tickets were about $900 today, First class about $103000 today. There were even millionaire suites that was so huge with their own fireplace.

I also loved the background stories of passengers that were provided, telling us how and why they had chosen to board Titantic. But for some it wasn't a choice.

A couple of passengers that we read about were made to transfer to Titanic due to the coal strike that happened on the Oceanic and the Majestic.

There was this case that was truly a blessing in disguise:
Man A was supposed to board Titanic with his friend, but he was kidnapped before he managed to. His friend brought all of Man A's luggage up on to the ship thinking that he will board it at the last minute, as usual. But Man A did not manage to board Titanic, leaving his friend all alone on board. Friend died in the sinking, but Man A was safe and sound because he didn't board it due to the kidnapping.

In my case, as Mrs Hippach and my daughter Jean Hippach, we were on board Titanic to let loose our emotions because of the loss of my two sons in the infamous Chicago Iroquois Theatre fire. If we had died, it would be really a tragedy.

(Edgar Samuel Andrew is a passenger who stayed in England and had to go to United States, he was scheduled to board another steamship but due to the coal strike he had to board Titanic instead that leaves earlier than the former steamship. His friend had wanted to come visit him in England but since he had to leave earlier, he would be missing his friend's visit, thus he wrote a letter to him.)

It really seems unbelievable that I have to leave a few days before your arrival but there's no help for it I've got to go. You figure, Josey, I am boarding the greatest steamship in the world but I don't really feel proud of it at all, right now I wish the Titanic were lying at the bottom of the ocean.

Isn't this so..... I don't know how to describe it, he actually wished that the Titanic was lying at the bottom of the ocean because he would be missing he's friend's visit. But indeed it had happened, that Titanic hit the iceberg, broke into two and sunk to the bottom. I wonder whether he had these thoughts in his mind when he sunk with it.

I personally feel that Joseph Bruce Ismay (director of White Star Line) was the greatest at fault for causing so many people to die.
There were 2228 passengers and crew on board but only 705 were saved, leaving 1523 people to die.

It was all because of the reduction of lifeboats during the building and designing of Titanic.
In the initial design there was 32 life boats. But the board decided to reduce it to 20; 16 life boats and 4 inflatable floats. Which could only save half the capacity of the Titanic.

And even so, each life boat can contain about 67 people, but during the saving, there were only 3 life boats that managed to maximise the number of people on board, the rest were only half filled. Although this was also due to the reluctance of some passengers to board the lifeboats because they didn't want to leave their loved ones behind. But it was also because of the lack of lifeboats. If there were enough lifeboats no one would have to be left behind and there will not be so much chaos. Many children were left fatherless and wives widowed because they only allowed women and children to board the lifeboats at first.

The exhibition team that went down to the bottom of the ocean were debating about whether the half filled lifeboats should have turned back to save the other people, two of the crew were about to quarrel because one said that they made the right choice because there were 1500 people in the water, if they headed back they would jeopardise the lives of people already on the lifeboat because there would be 1500 people competing to board the lifeboat.

The other crew however said that they should have gone back to save them.

The third crew member simmered the heat with this:

"The act of heroine does not exist within the group but in individuals."

Which is true and it makes sense, I think the lifeboats made the right choice to not turn back. It was all too risky. In the first place the lives on Titanic have already been jeopardised due to the lack of lifeboats. They were the lucky people who could board it and rowed away.

I had a hell lot of mixed feelings as I walked through the tour and watched the documentary which not only showed the remains of Titanic but also super imposed scenes that could be seen when Titanic was "alive" people dancing, having dinner, playing cards.

During the crash and Titanic was sinking, there were card gamers who continued to play cards, resigned to their fate, playing the very last game.

There were telegraphers who stayed by the machine so they could continue communicating with other ships. It was said that due to atmospheric causes, the telegram signals could be picked up 5000+ kilometres away from Titanic. There was the band who continued playing happy cheery music to keep up the atmosphere of cheerfulness and to calm the people.

The captain of Titanic is the one of the utmost right, with the white beard.

His name is Edward Smith, he was well liked by White Star Line passengers and so much so that some passengers would only board a ship that was sailed by him. His 30 years of career was well established and he wanted to retire but White Star Line persuaded him to oversee the maiden voyage of Titanic. He promised his wife and daughter, Helen that he will retire after the well anticipated voyage of Titanic.

None of the crew members survived the sinking.

Such professionalism, and devotion to their jobs, made me feel ashamed in myself somehow.

Aye, to the Titanic crew. Who worked to their best till the last second of their lives.

I wouldn't say that my parents never supported me in the things that I do, I would like to say that I'm a sheltered strawberry.
Strawberry generation they label us, I don't deny that I believe most Singaporeans are strawberries.
Well, we are if you compare us to those kids in poorer countries.
It's a fact.

I was spurred on to do some good deeds by my teacher.
She wanted to submit my name for being a good student or something but she needed some background information about me, and she wanted some really concrete ones.
My two other friends that were chosen had really good stuff like organising charitable events; collecting sacks of rice from Singapore and bringing it over to the needy people in other countries.

I want to do something like that. It actually didn't occur to me that I ought to do something like that.
The submission of name whatever wasn't exactly of special meaning to me.
But when my teacher asked me about anything I had worth mentioning, i had nothing to say.

Even as I thought about the things I slogged hard for in AHS, I didn't have anything to mention at all, mainly because all those things I did were for the school, and I was just following instructions like a well carved puppet.

That one question that my teacher asked hit rock bottom of my conscience.
What . have . I . done?
These 19 years of my life.

All I had to think of was myself, my future and even so I didn't do well at it.

I had this spur of ambition to do something, something that can be fulfilling not only for me but for someone else as well.

But to do all I want to do, I think I need some cash. I don't think it's really really essential and necessary but I feel more backed-up to have a good amount of electronic bills in my bank.

I had enough of floating around. I want to do something.
Really. :/

.Dream High 2

I have been watching Dream High 2.

Jiyeon is starring in Dream High 2 that's why I watched. I didn't even follow Dream High 1 though Eunjung acted in it.

The fact that I'm talking about Dream High 2 is not because I am fan girling.
It's because I wonder about what goes on the minds of people.

In Dream High 2, Jiyeon's character, Rian, is an idol from a trio female group called HERSHE. She's popular because of her ravishing looks and is the undeniable flower of the group. However in terms of singing she doesn't pass the mark. On the other hand, the other two members of HERSHE, Ailee (2012 debut singer Ailee) and Nana (Hyorin from Sistar) are the ones with the better vocals. In the show, in order to portray her popularity, fan boys stash her gifts in school and Rian herself claims that majority of HERSHE's fans are hers. She is really interested in acting and she wants to try many things, even learning how to play the piano and taekwando so that she can land herself an acting role. But her acting skills are so bad that the entertainment company pulls her out from filming. She herself is aware of her weakness and she is worried of her future also due to the complication of family issues.


It just makes me wonder really, how and why did the director? choose Jiyeon to act as Rian. I am a T-ara fan, and I am Jiyeon biased. It is definitely true that every idol will have anti fans even the most popular ones and Jiyeon is no other. Many a time she has also cried on variety shows over the experience with anti fans. I may not know what she had experienced because she has never gone into detail but a simple scroll on a youtube comment box can tell a lot.

Leaving the true blooded Jiyeon fans aside there are the anti fans who criticize her like no tomorrow; horrible singing skills, claims she's ugly, don't understand why she is the most popular out of T-ara, hates the way she acts cute, attitude problem, can't act etc etc etc.

I wonder if the director had chosen Jiyeon to star as Rian for the exact same reason?
Because he thinks that she is most suitable for the role because she has the "qualities" for it?
How scary can that be if this is real; if the director really thinks that way.

Although Jiyeon biased but I don't deny that I used to think that she was the flower of T-ara. The visual of T-ara. She can't sing THAT well, but she can dance and she's the prettiest. Oh and the youngest.

This opinionated idea can't be helped when she gets the least lines in songs but stands in the centre of dance formations and gets the most screen time(even when she's not singing).
She gets to be the first in sequence on photo books in their albums, she has the coolest and most fanciful costume. She has more individual modeling shots than her fellow group mates. Individual advertisements, more invitations to variety shows and collaboration performances.

When their song "Why are you being like this" (from Temptastic album) came out, I was utterly shocked to hear that Jiyeon has only one solo line. Oh I'm sorry, two words, oh my bad- it's just one word but said 8 times over. "Knock Knock Knock Knock, Knock Knock Knock Knock!"

After numerous performances, finally, they decided to cut Qri's already very short line and give a part to Jiyeon. Fans were happy of course but the decision to make Jiyeon sing ONE word but 8 times over in the very first place is insulting to someone who is supposed to be a singer.

Is it really true that Jiyeon is labelled only as the flower of T-ara? Just a pretty girl who can dance but can't sing? Is it so evident in the eyes of the company and even possibly the director of Dream High 2?

I think the possibility holds but I dare not say much because I will be digging my own grave.
I do hope that the distribution of lines can be more fairly done in T-ara's songs. It's infuriating to each individual's fans to see their idol getting a pathetic share of lines.

I'm just going to go on a lil' rant here.

"Cry Cry" (from Black Eyes album) was almost Soyeon's solo performance, this time round Jiyeon fans are dancing in joy because she got to have more lines than usual. But it was only Soyeon and Jiyeon's show.
Boram and Qri hardly uttered a word. Eunjung and Hyomin acted more like harmonizers. Hwayoung only had her rapping nearing the end of the song, but it's actually fine because she's a rapper.

"Lovey Dovey" (from Funky Town album)  is a song that distracts you from noticing who gets what lines but the most noticeable is Boram. Not only does she get half a line but the moment she steps out to the centre formation for 2 seconds she slinks back to allow tall Jiyeon take the centre stage.
The only 2 seconds of limelight. Boram. Did you know she had her own album back in 2008? She's supposed to be recognised for her dancing skills as well as she was talent spotted after dancing to one of BOA's song.

"We were in love" by Davichi and T-ara is a beautiful song. But I am again speechless when Jiyeon only has 9 seconds worth of lines within the first 40 seconds of the song and after that she just stands there with a rueful expression. Even Hwayoung has 17 seconds of RAP. Poor Jiyeon.

As a fan, my heart really goes out to Jiyeon. I am sure she has a rough idea of where she stands in T-ara in terms of looks or popularity but I find it insulting for her to appear in a song of 3minutes and 32 seconds when she only has 9 seconds worth. Does it mean that it is well approved by the company to simply chuck her a line and leave her standing there so that she can be involved in the song and garner more viewers, supporters and album sales?
