Random rant about religion and stuff
Wow.. the Harold's comment section has turned into a forum.. =)
This was meant to end up on Harold's comment box as well but was thinking since my blog hasn't been touched for a while I might as well..
Plus no blog is complete without a random rant about religion and stuff right? =P
I really don't think much about predestination. Like all things to do with religion, you can dispute about it for an eternity and you'll still not be an inch close to "the truth" as Joshua puts it. Basically I just get the "hah! I knew you'd do that!" feel whenever I hear talk about predestination. Like the same way Neo wonders if the Oracle knew if he would take the sweet or not. If you take it, she would've known that you would. And If you think about the fact that she would know, and decide not to take it, she can just say "hey, I knew you wouldn't take it". It just annoys the crap out of me to believe that my life is set out for me already, and there's nothing I can do about it. But my point of view is supported purely by what I want to believe in this case. =P
Anyway, predestination as stated by Christianity doesn't really make sense at all.. whether you're gonna look at it in terms of absolute freewill, freewill within boundaries or whatever. Take the city of Sodom for example. If everyone is Sodom was predestined to be a bunch of useless monkeys that deserved to be smited down... then why did God predestine that for them then get pissed and destroy them after that? Even if it was just the end that was predestined and not the whole thing, the scenario doesn't make sense... And if they have absolute freewill to change their ways but all of them failed... what's predestined at all? Right now I can practically hear the fundamentalist screaming "God works in mysterious ways!" into my ear. >_>
I never thought I'd actually agree with Joshua on religious matter (no offense Josh =P) cuz I've always saw him as a fundamentalist up till now. =) In terms of standpoint about religion, I don't really differ from him at all too much. Except that he takes Christianity as a base of his beliefs perhaps. I believe in God, but not really in religion. Religion does well as guidelines, but many people fail to see that and end up blindly following something that they don't even really understand. I've lost count of the number of people who claim to be Buddhist but pray to Taoist Gods.. and had quite a few differing explainations as to how Christianity works out.
Me: So.. basically Noah fit every single species of animal into an Ark that he built.. o_O
CG(Christian Guy): Err... yeah
Me: that's a lot of animals.. what did he feed them?
CG: Dunno..
Me: So how did the animals move from the ark to all over the world after the flood?
CG: Dunno lar.. apparently only part of the world was flooded.. not the whole thing..
Me: So what exactly was the point of the ark if there are animals everywhere else?
CG: .....
Well of course there's a possibility that there were only a few major species that later evolved into different... oh wait.. they don't believe in evolution.. Hmmm..
End story : Noah's ark is just a fairy tale larrr... not part of the REAL bible..
And what is it with heaven and hell anyway? How does one even begin to believe in it? Imagine.. if heaven was a place only for saints, then we sure as heck aren't getting there... and if heaven is a place for Christians ONLY (no matter how naughty or nice they've been), then wth.. you're gonna be spending an eternity with people who might very well be sinners, no exclusions.. Think of the population count to boot.. you go in, but you don't come out.. Welcome to heaven! Slogan :It's just like earth... only more crowded!
Ok.. maybe the view is great and all.. and you float around with a lil' halo over your head and watch over the world.. but an ETERNITY... quite a long while... and eternity of floating around and feeling good... Erm.. riiight.. no matter how I think about it, an eternity of anything is Hell... >_< You'd definately get bored or something.. what's the point of existing if you don't have anything to do.. nothing to challenge? no obstacle to overcome? But that is thinking about it in the worldly needs point of view.. then again, even if say you bask in God's greatness, not in a physical form or anything... err.. and then? it's about the same thing as non-existance.. you don't do anything. Hell is a little bit more believable.. But I think even Satan would cease to see the fun in burning human souls for an eternity after the 1,000,000,000,000,000th soul to go down just to be tortured forever.. I know he held a grudge against us but still... that's a lot of souls..
Reincarnation is a lot more believable =) but the whole repent by being an squishable ant/ugly toad/poor beggar in your next lifetime.. erm.. well maybe.. but if you don't remember why you're in the predicament.. then what exactly do you regret?
*Imitates evangelist* "Aiya... of course larrr.. Heaven and Hell is beyond human understanding! you're still tied down by your worldly desires! For that you will BUR... err... heheh" =P
There's ALways more to say about religion, but I'll save it for another post/comment perhaps..
Disclaimer : No, I do not have anything against Christianity or any other religion for that matter.. I'm just justifying why I don't believe in them. Ok... maybe just a bit.. but that's only because of that occasional air of superiority and glances of pity (it's the OMG.. poor kid is going to burn in hell look) I get from some 'strongly religious' people.. or maybe they just think I'm malnourished... >_> either way... =P
note: A lot of substance got lost in translation between my brain and my hand.. Blame it on my crappy english. =)
