This is the view from the cheapest seats of the City Recital Hall. Pretty good and, in my opinion, better than right at the back of the theatre. Possibly not the best for theatre but for music, absolutely fine.

City Recital Hall

This is the City Recital Hall, one of the newest performing arts spaces in Sydney. Its tucked down a lane and you wouldn't know it was there unless you were looking for it. I hadn't been inside until last week.

I really like these two sculptures in Barack Street. There were placed there as part of Art and About last year. I don't know if they are going to stay or not.

Theme Day - Festival of the Belly Button

This is one of the photos from my very first City Daily Photo post on this blog on 10 May 2008.  This was taken with a little, red, Olympus point and shoot camera without manual mode. I also had a Canon 400D but was only using that on the "P" setting. I could still get lucky and take a good photo but I didn't know why it worked.

Since then I have learnt to use a camera, taken various courses in different aspects of photography (I know what makes a good photo even if  I can't always do it) and upgraded the Olympus to a Canon S90 which is pocket size but has full manual operation (and is due for a further upgrade), and the 400D to a 60D. I have also gained the confidence to photograph people, particularly street photography, and love playing with black and white conversion, particularly learning what will and won't work.

Street art in the mall in Hobart.

Its a hard job

but someone has to do it. One of the distillers at Lark Distillery tasting the new batch of whisky to decide whether it should be bottled at 43%, 46% or 58% proof.

If you are ever in Hobart and are appreciative of a good single malt, I can highly recommend the guided tasting at the Lark shopfront and cafe. Its very easy to find - right next to the Tourist Information Office.

Hobart from Mt Wellington

Not a perfect merge by any means, there are a couple of very strange things going on if you look closely, but it gives you an idea of the magnificent view from the top of Mt Wellington which overlooks Hobart, the capital of the island state of Tasmania. It was quite hazy the afternoon I went up there, would really be stunning if it was clear.
