JS1101E Introduction to Japanese Studies
This module aims to introduce students to the subject of Japanese studies from a multi-disciplinary approach. It has three main components. The first component is humanities, covering art, philosophy, history and literature. The second component is social sciences, which includes sociology, anthropology, politics and economics. The third component is linguistics and language development. Students will learn about the methods and theories the various disciplines contribute to the study of Japan. Audio-visual materials, fieldwork, guest lectures, study tours, projects and debates will supplement lecture and tutorials.

SE1101E Southeast Asia: A Changing Region
Description Southeast Asia has been described as one of the 'crossroads of the world' - a place where people from many cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds meet. The intermingling of people, the exchange of ideas and international commerce have been part of Southeast Asian life for centuries. This module surveys the broad currents of conflict, change and continuity across the region from a multidisciplinary perspective. It looks at how Southeast Asian societies and political systems have changed over time in response to the pressures of ecology, colonialism, nationalism, urbanization and globalization. The module also looks at the way ethnic, religious, national and regional identities have been constructed, used and altered over time. The overall objective is to provide students with an introduction to different ways of exploring Southeast Asia and different experiences of living in the region.

SW1101E Social Work: A Heart-Head-Hand Connection
This module introduces students to the enriching experience of being in social work education. Learning includes both cognitive and experiential knowledge on the needs of individuals, families and society, and the social work response in meeting these needs. Included are the mission, values and principles of the social work profession and its roles and functions in contributing to human well-being. As an integral and compulsory part of this module, students will visit social service organization. The module is open to all NUS students.

HY1101E Asia and the Modern World
This module introduces students to the field of history, with a focus on East, Southeast, and South Asia. Among the topics to be discussed are interaction with the West, various forms of nationalism, and the impact of globalization. Students are encouraged to think comparatively and to formulate their own opinions and positions on historical issues based on what they have learned in the module. The module is intended for students from any faculty who are interested in learning more about the history of the region.

Been slacking at home and was jumping for joy when I realised that I passed my QET. I was really surprised because I had the thought that I misunderstood the question and wrote plain rubbish. But it turned out the opposite so I was pretty happy.

Just finished watching both seasons of Bloody Monday.. Awesome show that makes you want to anticipate what will happen next. Haven't watch a show that made me swear and have goose bumps at the same time. It also kind of made me think about us, taking our safety and our love ones for granted. Better treasure the ones you love before they disappear...

Been thinking alot over the weeks as well.. it still hasn't hit me yet that I'm entering NUS until I had to bid for my modules today. I guess I'm still trying to figure out if I made the right choice of choosing FASS over business. I really hope that I won't screw up for my modules. AHHH.. snap out of this, Hui Li... Just do your very best in whatever you do and be firm with the path that you chose....

I went to attend the NUS JSS Camp (Japanese Studies Society) from 13th to 16th July. Initially I didn't wanted to go for the camp because I had to take the QET on the 15th and had to send Eveline off to Melbourne on the night of 14th. After thinking about it, I decided to go for it because going for this camp will be the best chance to meet new friends; especially those who are interested in Japanese culture.
The first day, we had to meet at the central library at 12pm and we were assigned groups according to the names of food (Udon, Ramen or Soba). I was allocated in the group Udon. We were introduced to our OGs and mingered around. We played ice breaker games and were given an introduction of the club and their subclubs Sado and Buyo. We also had a tour around the central library in NUS which was really huge (6th storeys). They even have a section dedicated to Japanese books, magazines, newspapers etc.

Were taught some Buyo Steps..

Cheryl and I dressed up in Yukatas..

We went back to the lecture hall where we played some quiz game and music station. The quiz game was divided into 5 catagories and one of which was my favourite and that was the "Name the JE boys". It was quite easy for me since I support JE but I felt like hitting myself for not knowing Sakurai Sho's Major in University!!! <--- Deserved to get shot!! T_T! Music Station was pretty fun as we needed to guess the artists and song titles of the songs. Our team managed to get alot of points XD. After that, we went to check in to our chalet which is the Aloha Changi Fairy Point. We played "Hummingbird" where we suppose to either sing or hum the songs. The night walk was not scary; thank god.. 2nd Day we woke up at 9am. For our breakfast, we had a choice of either banana nut crunch, bread with spreads, chicken stew etc.. After breakfast, we had an obstacle course challenge. The first part we had to race with our sleeping bags to the other end; then use a spoon to balance a ping pong ball and then complete a task. Our team clinched number 1 again. The amazing race started at around 11 plus and the positions of setting off was determined by answering "Jian Da" questions. My team was the last to set off.. Haha probably because we weren't "Jian Da" enough. The race was pretty relaxing and we didn't really run or anything. We had to visit places like sunshine plaza around bugis, the Japan creative centre, ion orchard etc. I also managed to try out KOI bubble tea at Iluma.. Omg, it taste so good!!! It was heaven!!! We also had certain task to do at each station like answering the quiz given by the station masters, finding stuff... I had to leave in the midst of the race to send off Eveline. After that, I headed home and slept early to have enough energy for my QET in the morning.
Group shot !!

I woke up pretty early and had to go to the multi purpose hall for my QET. I was surprised that there were so many people taking the test. It was probably the longest test I had to take because seriously, when I saw the question paper, I was stunned. I did not know what the question was about and in my mind, I told myself that I will fail. But nevertheless, I continued writing and when the time was up, I heaved a sigh of relief. I met up with Shi qi and 2 of the other members and headed to Tampines to find our respective groups. They were shopping for the making of Character Bento. We all reached back to the chalet at 2.45pm and had our lunch. We went straight to making our bento and our group decided to make a "Usagi" bento. The result turned out more than what I had expected and it was really cute. We had to present our bento to the judges.

In the midst of making our bento..

Udon group presents... Usagi Bento!!

Following the presentation, we had time to plan out our skit before commencing the BBQ. We lost in the Janken and had to go first. The skit was enjoyable as my team acted out a host club where the guys had to serve the ladies. Each of the guys acted out a funny character which made everyone laughed. I too, was having a blast looking at the guys performed. The other 2 groups were also great and overall, that was probably one of the best parts of the camp.
After the skit, we played human poker where you were given something to act out and you had to freeze. Those who had the same pose will score the points. One of the most hilarious poses was for Paul the Octopus... seriously how do you pose for that in the first place??
The night was just getting started. I took a quick shower and went downstairs to watch some ARASHI videos with my friend Rindy. We also went for a photoshoot where we could make special effects with the camera which I thought was awesome. I only managed to sleep at around 5am.

UDON!!

CHIDORI AND RASENGAN!! How cool is that!!

The last day drew by.... Our team was awarded first and received a hamper. We also had a group photo with a photo frame as a present. I really enjoyed this camp!!

I guess it's pretty weird to finally see a "2" in front of my age after seeing a "1" for a decade. But nevertheless, being 20 proves to be significant to me in many ways. Aside for ARASHI's Nino sharing the joy together with me and Toy's Story 3 the movie being aired in the cinemas, the age 20 symbolises adulthood for me.
As I looked back at my life, I must say I led a pretty decent life. I didn't have the best of childhood memories during my primary school days but I enjoyed both my secondary and poly life alot. Now being 20, my next chapter of life will be University. Going in NUS has always been a dream for me since secondary school as I wanted to enter to any of the local universities here. I was offered FASS which I felt was good because I get to do something I really interested in for a change.
The road seems endless for now... but for now, let me enjoy my present with my family, friends and my love for Japanese idols...
Happy 20th Birthday, Hui Li..

Finally after 3 years... I have been waiting for this day... GRADUATION DAY! Looking back over the 3 years, I gained many good memories and friends. I remembered my Secondary School friends asking me why I chose to study at SP instead of a JC but I told them JC was not for me. And true enough, after 3 years studying banking in SP, I can say proudly that I made the right choice.

I have alot of people to express our gratitude to...

1) My Gang - What can I say? They are the best people to be with. I will like to say thank you to them individually...

Eveline: From Rivals to classmates to Best Friend. We kept on bumping into each other as we moved along from Secondary to Poly. Thank you Eveline for always being there for me; listening to my whines and troubles. Thank you for putting so much effort in our projects; planning for birthdays or outings; going shopping with me etc. Having you so close to me, I will DEFINITELY miss you alot once you leave to Melbourne University. But I wish you all the best; my best friend. I hope to see you soon in Melbourne.

Wan Ling: Miss Yamapi!! You always cheer me up whenever I feel down and being with you is such a joy. Thank you for always listening to me talking about ARASHI and Sakurai Sho. (Well i do listen to you talking about Yamapi too XD) Learning Japanese with you in SP for 2 years was really fun and I hope that someday both of us will be proficient in Japanese. Let's hope we can go for a concert soon!! Shuuji X Akira Forever!!!

Zhi Min: Mr Joker! 3 years in the same class as you.. you never fail to amuse me. Always calling me "Pang" till everyone calls me that liao!! (Even call me "Fake Pang" and accuse me of watching "Porn"... T_T!!) Haha.. I enjoy talking to you about soccer and being with you I can act cranky and get away with it... Thank you for cracking funny jokes and being the mood maker of our gang....

Benjamin: My Brother!! Why you go NS so early!! LOL! I suppose to call you "Kor" but I end up calling you Ah Ben like I'm your big sister.. Haha... I hope to see you transform into a Men and I can proudly call you my Kor Kor!! Thank you for being my Kor and I won't forget the Wondergirl dance you did!!

Hayati: My very first friend I met in SP! OMG.. I still remember that I asked you about how to fill in the form when we have to register for our course or something... I met you again in SPSU camp and there you are.. being my classmate for 3 years. Fated I must say. Thank you for confiding with me when you have troubles. I am really glad that you persevered and graduate together!!

En Tong: Miss Wu Niang! Our talented dancer and crazy korean fangirl in our gang!! Thank you for being my seon saeng nim during Maths class!! You really helped me alot!! You bring joy to the gang! I hope I will have the chance to see your performance in the future!!

Jeraine: Miss Sunshine! Didn't really get to talk to you during year 1. I guess I became closer to you in year 2 during our elective classes and even more closer during our taiwan trip. Didn't know you are a shopperholic!! Congratulation on getting your driving license!!

Jun Hao: Ah Pek! Haha.. I will always remember the 4 of us working together for our FOM Levis project! It was really the "best team"! You never fail to amuse me with your straight forwardness about things. I always say you are the living example of a typical Singaporean!

Julia: Julia Jie! Thanks for organising our gang chalets!! I really enjoy the time we have during the chalet. Being the ah ma in the gang, you always do things that make us laugh! I wish you success in the working force...

Shu Fen: MADAM! I'm very proud to say that I have a female police friend! Congrats on realising your dream to protect our nation. Your strong will and motivation will definitely inspire me to work hard to follow my dream.

William: Our Mr Microsoft Excel. Although you always seem to glue to the computer 24-7, you are probably one of the most kind person I have met. All the best in creating a software for Microsoft. I can see you doing big things in the future.

2) Japanese Culture Club - Although I joined in year 2, I was thankful to be given a main committee position as a treasurer. I enjoyed being with you guys and my only regret was not being active in JCC since year 1.

Luqman: PAPA!! Thank you for always putting JCC as your 1st priority. Thank you for organising events and taking all your efforts to make JCC a better club. I apologise for not being able to help you write proposals and easing your burden. Thank you for being my papa!!

Sheng Yang: MAMA!!! Thank you so much for sending all the emails to update us on the latest JCC events and proposals!! You and Papa really put in alot of effort to grow JCC into a better club. Both you and Papa's effort will not be wasted!

3) BD Gang

Ryan: Bellboy!! Thank you for putting so much effort during our marketing phase of our BD project. You really work your ass off during that phase and truly deserve an A for this module. You always surprise me with your grades and achievements. I can see you in the top in the future!

Wei Xian: Onion!! Thank you for always thinking of creative ideas for our BD project. Without them, our BD idea will not be as good and interesting as it is.

Darren: Driver. I will always remember your video of you losing your "car"! Always makes me laugh whenever I recall that scene of you. Thank you for being our Mr Cool and collective guy in the group!

Zeng Liang: We only became really close during the 3rd phase of our BD project. Hi-5 Man U supporter! You and Ryan always make us laugh with your jokes on "your fellow group mate" Haha.. Thanks for joining our BD group!! XD

I will also like to extend my thanks to all the lecturers who have guided me through my journey in SP.

*I dedicate EXILE's Michi to everyone that I mentioned*
