The impromptu night stay at slope point backpacker only $40 for both pax, was a good recharged after many days of sleeping in the van. Again, we have missed the sunrise.-_-

The drive from Catlins to Dunedin was interesting. We met with a bunch cyclist- BIGWHEEL cyclist along the Southern Scenic Route. I'm not sure if it's easier, or more difficult to cycle with a big wheel, but im sure for up slope it's definitely not gg to be easy! It's the first time we are on a highway on the way to Dunedin, and I was the 1 driving. Cars were faster and more lanes, which was a lil overwhelming for me. :z

Passby a beeeeauuutiful forest, color pencil forest.

15th Nov 11

5 more days and I will be back to SG which i certainly am very upset abt it.
Invercargill is a small quiet town. The main reason for dropping by here, is for the Southern Light, but we didn't see any. But this was "compensated" later at Lake Tekapo! =)

The guide book recommended the Queens Park at Invercargill, so we went there to check it out. A small park it may be, we spend about 2 hrs there.

We didn't spend too much time here, mcD for lunch and we proceed down to Bluff.
Bluff, not really exciting, more like a historic place to visit but noth fanciful.

We took abt 1 hr and we finish most of the things to see on the guide. So we decided to continue our journey towards Dunedin via the southern Scenic Route. We reach Catlin, stop by the coast, which is also the most Southern Point of NZ, Slope Point.
It's funny how the trees along the coast are all having their bad hair day. haha

The 1 night stay at the the hut, was freezing.
We woke up early and prepare breakfast and pack up to descend to the control gate. Weather was good today, no rain! Going down was much faster. Track was muddy due to the rain yesterday but everything else was good.

Once, there's this woman who was walking pass us, and she say to us" If you see my son later, please tell him to hurry up."

haha....5 steps down the track, we saw her son, trying to catch up with her, out-of-breathe LOL.

3 hrs down, we finally reach the beach ard Dock bay. I was so tempted to jus jump onto the boat that fetch us back to the Lake Te Anau. :( After another hr, we reach back to our big guy! We drive straight to our holiday park, freshen up and subway for lunch.

The rest of the day was slow drive to Invercargill. :)

Weather was better near the south, unlike the Fiordland area, 200+ rainy days in a yr. We saw many "window wallpaper" scenic view along the way, everything was fab.

One of the attraction at Riverton was the oddly spherical rocks, but we saw many pebbles instead. And finally a chance to get real close to the sheeps without the fence!!!!!

13th Nov 11.

Next task on the list, Kepler Track.
The whole trip to complete is about 3/4 days, but we onli choose to do a 2d1n trip.
This is probably the first "major" hike for me so was pretty excited and unsure what to expect.

First 1.5 hrs was merely walking in the forest near Lake Te Anau. We reach the dock bay for the first toilet break/rest. It started to get warm and I have to remove my fleece.

The next 2 hrs....was tough. :/
Going uphill is no joke. Esp with that backpack. i HATE slope. Argh. Every few steps that i took i feel like resting for 5 mins. Dear was patient and stop frequently with me! =)

Along the way we saw many trekkers, some were old but really fit! It's another 2 hrs of walking before we finally reach the top!!!! =D no more slopes, but I was pretty exhausted already. The feeling was good to be at top of the world, and it's my mini achievement. 27 km return trip.

The next one, will be Milford Track.

omgoddess Y.H.L. NZ adventure 12/11/11 Day 6

We jump out of bed this morning when we wokeup at 655am, as the meeting time is 7am!
With the faster speed to change and wash up, and 20 steps away from the meeting place, we r, on time. :D

We booked a half day kayak with Rosco Milford Sounds Kayak. Was deciding whether to take their night cruise or kayak at Milford, n thought kayak will be sth quite interesting. Nv regret! It was really fun, with penguins swimming near us. :) Would be able to see dolphins swimming ard us if we have picked the correct day.

Weather is awesome.

I miss NZ.

omgoddess Y.H.L. NZ adventure 11/11/11 Day 5:
We woke up to a very nice sunrise!!! =D
Amaze that we are able to wake up quite early despite we slp late last nite. And last night was a tough night! Our gray water level is full, so full that when we on the tap there will be water flowing out from the bathroom. So we gotta empty the dirty water. The camper ppl taught us how to drain them away but we still forgot how to do it and spend quite a bit of time to see hw to do it. Yes we did succeed to drain the water away, but it’s definitel not the correct way. Only on the 2nd last day of the trip, we ask and we realize how to do it.haha!
While HL was out taking photo I prepare the (same) breakfast. Today we have ham and cheese, French toast, sausages. *happy*
After breakfast, wash up, we continue our journey to Queenstown/Te Anau.
Today, we gotta stay at Milford Sound area, as we will be gg for a kayak down the Milford Sounds. =DDD
The plan is suppose to reach QT and go to Glenorchy, but with out stop and see see take photo pattern, we had no choice but to skip Glenorchy. Sob, seems like a nice place.
Upon arriving to QT, we stop by the Kawarau Gorge. They had a nice café there and we take a coffee break there. =)
Drive down another 15 mins or so, we arrive at Kawarau Bridge, the first bungee jump in the world! HL got super excited and wants to have a try!!!!! -_-||| We decided to go for lunch first then we come back again if we wanna go for it. (my good plan…haha!)
Queenstown is a beautiful town. Houses there are so nice. We had a very nice lunch at Cow restaurant there. We ordered a pizza to share and it was soo good! It’s one of the recommended place to pop by when we are doing our research. Very nice deco too.
It was drizzling(again) when we are done with lunch, but we went ahead to walk ard the streets. Bought the first new Zealand ice cream-Pistachio. Not too bad, but I prefer ours! Haha.
THe rain gets heavier so we went back to our car and continue the journey to Te Anau. As usual, stop-see-take photo is the standard procedure, so 2 hrs become 3 hrs. Top up our fuel at Te Anau before continuing to Milford Sounds.
Milford Sounds.
The best part of the trip. The best drive of the trip.

omgoddess Y.H.L. NZ adventure -10th Nov 11 Day 4

We missed the sunrise at Lake Matheson as we were so tired. Cooked a good breakfast, wash up and we left for Lake Matheson.
It's a very nice place for hot chocolate and just relax to do nothing. If only we got more time!

Our destination was to Wanaka or Queenstown area. It was a slow drive there, as we stop by many beautiful places to enjoy the scenery.

Happy Anniversary!

Lunch and dinner was anywhere. As the weather is reallly cold, we got hungry many times. but we also snack alot! 3 packets of chips, tim tam, jelly beans, chocolate.
From the west coast (Fox Glacier), we drive pass Mt Aspiring national park, Haast before we finally reach Wanaka. Wanaka is a quite small town, known for bungy too and the puzzling world. We arrive there pretty late, only took pictures outside the puzzling world!

Continue our journey down nearer to Queenstown, arrive to a campsite next to a river, we had our dinner under the bright moon!

omgoddess Y.H.L. NZ adventure 9th Nov 2011 -Day 3

The day that everything seems wrong. :(

Woke up around 5am, wash up was relatively easy since its one step from the bed to basin and 2 steps into the bathroom. teehee.
We had a good night rest despite the low temp and heater-less.
Another 3 hours drive from Arthur's pass to Fox Glacier.
Today's activity will be a full day hike at Fox Glacier.

Weather was rather gloomy. With on/off light drizzle.
We reach the carpark ard 9 and went to their office for briefing. Get our fleece, water proof panys, beanie, gloves and the crampon- the FG guys taught us how to put the crampon on to our boots.
Glacier is about 10 mins drive from the office. 12 of us in a group.
THe guide started to explain how glacier was form, the history of the glacier blah balh balh…pretty interesting!
But before we started walking on the ice, it’s a 1.5hr mini hike up the starting point. Shag.
The crampons make ice-walking much easier, otherwise prob we will jus be sliding down everytime we stood up…haha…
The temperature seems to be lower when we hiking up the glacier….plus the rain….yes the rain….they kept our cameras really wet (depite putting it in our bag with water proof cover) and HL dear’s cam was unable to on. Boohoo. How could this happen on the 2nd day of the trip!?! Lucky he brought his 40D along...:/
We hike for about 2 hrs and the guide found a place for us to have our lunch. Roast chicken with cheese sandwich. So yummy. We even bought a coke up with us, and used the ice to chill it…haha
After lunch, we hike for another 2 hrs , very near to the glacier wall, then start to walk down back to the ground.
Feeling wet and cold and tired, we really need one onsen! And thank god there’s one at the Franz J Glacier( abt 20km away), so we head down there right after we return the gears.
That’s when it happen. Jus as we were to turn out from the lot, our BumbleBee scratch the back light of the other car.Juicy car. Damn. Light was broken for them, back door can’t open.
Oh no.
How.shit.
And they were asian(we tot they were sporean.). So, take pics, write details n etc.
After everything was done, we proceed to the hot pool. Wow. Gorgeous figures the angmo have. I saw floating boobs. O.o
After staying about an hr at the pool, with wash up, we left and went to look for a accommodation. Our water level was low so we wanted to find a place where we can refill our fresh water. Yes, with a bit of luck, we found the Fox Glacier Holiday park. We had a good hot bath and cook something good for diner. Dear was, stoney and lost in space. He had a long day.

Omgoddess Y.H.L. NZ adventure 8th Nov 2011 Day 2

Flight to Auckland was a pretty good 1, not much Turb, smooth landing. :D
Happy to be in NZ finally, but 1 more transit flt to CHC.
Rem, going to Aust/NZ, DECLARE whatever u need to declare.
SO happen, we did not declare out hiking boots.

NZ officer looking at the declaration form.

NZO: any xxx, xxx, xxx you have in your luggage?
US: Nope.

*clearing the custom*
NZO: you have your hiking boots inside?
US:yup.
NZO: are they new or used?
US: er....used...
NZO: open up your luggage pls.

-_-

The fine was $400.....X_X!!!
Thank god we onli got a warning letter...prob cos we told him we gota connecting flight to catch to CHC.

While waiting for our luggage, there have doggies coming ard to sniff sniff too! N they actaully detected our fried rice with pork meat ball! haha..but sorry boy, we ate them all up, it's jus the container with the lingering smell to temp you. lalala~~

With poor vision and we have to rush to take the airport express bus to go to the domestic terminal for our connecting flight....at least we made it... zonk out when the flight takes off...so tired...

finally at 2pm, Kia Ora CHC!!!! Airport was rather old, seems like they are donig upgrading...we called our campervan company to arrange for the pick up., n 10 mins they arrive!

Campervan trip has been 1 of the to do list, so was really looking forward to it! :)

After some documents processing, we are brought to our mighty car FREEDOM and they give us a quick guide to the facilities. Like how to empty our big n small business. I just cant wait to hop on and head down to our first destination-Arthur's pass.

Went down to the nearest supermarket-New world to grab some necessities and grocery for the next few days..

Arthur's pass is about 2~3 hrs drive from CHC. our plan is to stop around that area for the night before we head down to Fox Glacier the next day early morning. Along the way, we stop by some places, including the castle Hill. The thing about NZ is, every drive is so scenic! The blue sky with fluffy white clouds, the grass with many sheeps and cows.... =)

There's little vehicles on the road, hardly any traffic light cos it's not necessary! And at juction they replace with round abt....

We stop by a random i-site(info site) for lunch/dinner break. Kinda skip lunch so were famish by then! So transformation of the car begin....we lift up the cushion seats, took out the table support, then the table top and fix it, n tadaa~~ Weather was getting chilling near the evening, i'm glad i got the north face powerful fleece jacket!

After dinner we just continue to drive down, till it's dark and we just find a place to rest. It's not a holdiay park, not a campsite. So transformation starts again; lift up the supporting board, lay the cushions, put on the bedsheet n tadaa~~ we have our bed for the rest of the trip! Can be quite tiring to do this everyday so we decided to jus keep the bed permanently there...haha!
