Decided to go on a strike and not do any marking today, cos my nose told my brain that it is allergic to paper...enough crap haha...had a bad cold and didn't feel like marking cos the mucus just flow non-stop.

I enjoyed my English lesson with 2E5 today. Other than witnessing a drug addict-look-alike Kia Dong with his blood-shot eyes and bad eye bags, we had a good laugh, a few good laughs indeed. Wonder what is wrong with Kia Dong? Is he on pills or has he been working 24 hours at macs ever since macs announces that they are going to be open for 24 hours at some of its outlets. This boy really needs help, especially with his uncivilised habit of spitting and his tiredness.

We had oral presentations and our dear Weilun was having a fun time teasing his friends. In the end, it's a case of me pitting my wits against his. Hence, he was teased several times with the girl that he didn't like and yet ended up helping her and expressing his "love" for her with "Oh my love, my darling". But I interrupted him before he can sing further. Poor Weilun! I didn't know he was so popular in class until he told me. He has secret admirers of different races...a good icon for racial harmony ar??!!

Weilun is quite a good-natured boy, as in he does not mind being teased at. Not petty and sporting, he will play along with the jokes and remarks made about him. Some boys would mind and cringe at the mere mention of Lirong. Picture Terence when he's associated with Lirong, he would rather associate himself with his 'potato' friend.

Time to give some credit to my EL rep =). He is unpretentious and he came across as more earnest compared to his F4 gang. He can share about anything under the sun and doesn't feel restricted at all. He does misbehave at times, especially shouting whatever and whenever he wants. But he's quite a righteous person as in he would point out if somebody has done something wrong and he won't go too far with his misbehaviour and he knows where his limit is and when he has to stop. He is receptive to comments and will make the effort to change if he is in the wrong. Enough of praising, in case he reads this and be complacent. Haha!

1E4 is quite noisy these days, and some of them are real talkative. What is it that is so important and urgent that they have to share with their friends? Or they will get bad breath if they don't open their mouth for 5 seconds? Evelyn and company especially, when you scold her, she can still be sarcastic and say "thanks". Other than that weird habit of hers, she's quite a nice girl. But it's really wasted.

I happened to witness one parent tearing for her son last Thursday, felt so sorry for her. The son was crying too. I can see that the family bonding is really strong and the mum really cares for the family and puts in a lot of effort for her children. The son isn't that incorrigible, but perhaps mischievous. But the mum really seems disappointed with what her son has done, and she blames herself for the things that he has done. It's not entirely her fault really. He chose to disappoint his mum by having like that. If I were the boy, I would shoot myself if my mum has to cry because of the silly things that I have done. But for boys to cry, I think they are really sad and sorry, as in you don't see boys who cry that often. At least for my form class, the sun would rise from the west if you see my boys crying. Let's hope that the boy is really apologetic for the things that he has done, and would not do such things to disappoint his mum again.

All right, time to end this grumble session. Till then when there are more things to add.

Last week was a hectic week. I had to spend my afternoons at Swiss Cottage for oral. 3 more afternoons to go next week. After that, i'll be free. Other than earning $30 per afternoon, i don't see any advantage of that. Imagine having to rush like mad to leave school when the clock strikes 1.45. Then if u don't collect the oral passage by 1.30, the school will make announcement for you to report to the general office...so embarrassing. Then had to be seated from 2.15 to 5.30 to listen to the students. It's really a torture...but not that bad exactly, must give some credits to the students cos some of them spoke quite well and that it was an air-conditioned room.

But out for orals for 10 afternoons will mean that my marking will pile up soon. No time to mark or check SW or CR or Grammar books, no time to punish students who didn't do their work or were noisy during lesson, no time to supervise students for my CCA who are taking part in NJRC. Hmm..wait till I'm done with my orals, then they will get it....haha (evil laugh). Swiss looked nicer now that they have completed PRIME. It looked so much bigger compared to what it was when i was there from 1993-1996. I saw some familiar faces there, teachers whom i've seen before but they didn't teach me. Some of the teachers who had taught me were no longer there, either they had been promoted or they had asked to transfer to another school or that they had quitted the job.

During one of the oral sessions, one of the topics for the conversation section was "Talk about one teacher whom you admire". Then one of the girls talked about her form teacher in her primary school, Mrs Khan. It turned out that she was also my form teacher when i was in primary 4 in South View Primary. What a pleasant surprise!! The girl didn't mention the school actually, she only mentioned Mrs Khan, who was teaching Maths and PE. There were too many similarities that I can't help it but ask her if she was from SVPS. Bingo!! Then we laughed about the coincidence. Mrs Khan was my form teacher when i was in P4, and that was in 1990, so it's like 15 years ago. Oh man, that is very long. Will i still be in the teaching profession after 15 years? Hmm...that's a big big question...very challenging though.

I was at Macs on Friday night with my friend. Surprisingly, i saw some students from Chua Chu Kang Sec. It was almost 10pm and there was quite a number of them in school uniforms. I saw one of my ex-students there. I was teaching at CCKSS for my contract teaching and practicum 3 or 4 years back. I had quite a good impression of Pipat cos he could write very good compositions. He's from Thailand and yet he is very good in English. Not only English, he was first in class for Sec 1 and 2. He's a very motivated student, quiet and charismatic. He reminded me of the fond memories i had when i was still a new teacher, and his class was my first English class before becoming a trained teacher. Time has really flown and he's in Sec 4 now. Terence shared some resemblance to him though, a foreign student who is smart and motivated in his studies and writes good composition too. But after i discovered the mischievous side of him, the good impression that he is a charismatic boy has changed drastically. The Terence that i see now would always be there to disturb Davis and his 'potato' friend, and would 'fuss' at the slightest mention of Lirong. That is a classic example that first impression is always wrong.

Oh, I have changed my vice-chairman. He is dishonest and doesn't set a good example as a responsible vice-chairman. The recent incident was the last straw for me and I felt that i had to sack him from the post. But he didn't show any remorse for it, instead he was rejoicing over the sacking. He didn't feel embarrass that he was sacked.

What happened was that I had treated some of the students to Mac for doing well in the road relay, so I ordered macs to be delivered to school. While Faheem was distributing the food, it turned out that one of the girls was left without any meal at all. When Ashiq found out that he had taken 2 big macs, he was so happy and did not bother to return it at all. When i questioned the class the following day, he did not even have the courage to admit and denied it even though his friend had given him away. How can someone be so dishonest? He's finding happiness at the expense of somebody's suffering. Then Benjamin from another class, to be precise, a sec one boy, also conveniently got away with taking a can of coke and he actually denied that too. Fortunately, Jun Yong is honest enough to say the truth.

What is the world coming to when we have so many dishonest boys? Moreover, with the increase of the discipline cases, I start to question about the upbringing of the students. What have the parents been doing? Some of the parents could remark that they couldn't do anything to control their children at all. Are there some flaws in the upbringing of the students? In the past, when our teachers called our parents, we were be so worried that we would get a scolding or beating. But right now, when we said that we were going to call their parents, they would say arrogantly, "You call lor, I also not scared of my parents! They can't do anything to me also." Then, parents would be at their wits' end and have no idea what to do with their delinquent children.

If I can't be around to teach the proper values to my children in future, i would rather remain single than to contribute one more pest to the society and cause so much inconvenience. But, thankfully to God, not all the children are beyond hope. I do see some well-behaved and well-mannered students around. One student that I wish to highlight would be Yuxiang. One thing that impressed me was that he would always be sitting up straight for all lessons, I'm serious although it sounds impossible. Compared him with Kiadong and you can see the vast difference. For the 8 months that I've been teaching him, never have i seen Yuxiang slouching or putting his head on the table. He would always be so attentive in class. As an English rep, he's very responsible, courteous and helpful.

One incident that I can remember clearly took place at the beginning of the year. I asked Haojie and him to follow me to the HOD room to collect the SR books for the class. Both of them were carrying a stack of 20 books each. By right, I should be holding the door for both of them since I was not carrying anything. Haojie walked in front and I was waiting for Yuxiang to walk out too. Instead, he used his leg to hold the door and offered to let me go first. That was really a gentleman act. To think that a 13-year-old boy would have the courtesy to hold the door and allow the teacher to go first, when there are cases where men, i mean adults, who did not even hold the doors for ladies, and just dashed out of the door as if they were rushing off to somewhere.

If only there are more Yuxiangs around, the world would be a better place.

Time to get on with life instead of harping on the issue. I'm not going to be upset over a few childish boys, over-protective parents and a 'heck-care' teacher.

I'm glad that Mrs Tan was quite understanding and supportive. I've learnt a lot from the talk with her regarding this incident.

Initially, i was thinking that i'm really a big fool to get myself into this shit, but at least I'm true to my conscience. I'm not the type of person who can just sit there and do nothing when I see that something is wrong. At least, i did my part as a teacher and made sure that bullies did not get away with their cowardly acts and not close both eyes to the issue.

I must thank Patsy too for her help regarding this matter, her relentless help in pursuing the matter. At least I know I can count on her to seek justice.

As for those people who still want to protect their classmates even though he knows they are wrong and feels that what you did is right, I don't see any point in explaining anything to you. To me, you are just another senseless boy who condones the act of bullying but do not dare to speak up for justice. If one day, you are being bullied and you needed people to speak up for you, but they didn't, then you would realise how helpless you will be.

I always believe that God is fair, what goes around comes around. If you are true to your conscience, God will be there to help.

Had to start this long-outdated post with an disillusioned note. I'm disgusted at some students' inconsiderate behaviour. It's going to be a long post, so don't continue if the introduction doesn't appeal to you.

Let's start with the latest incident. Names are not mentioned, not with the intention of protecting those who are involved, but the mere mention of those names spoiled the good impression that i had of those students, and only reminded me of their cowardly actions.

K, D and M did not like G. In an unscrupulous way to seek revenge, they threw G's pencil case into the dustbin and broke the stationery in the pencil case during recess when they were supposed to line up at the carpark. When G told me about it, i questioned the whole class about it and that the four of them, including C, were the main culprits because they stayed in class. Logically, they were the main suspects and nobody else was in the class. The four of them could still lie through their eyes and come up with silly excuses to get themselves off the suspects' list. Silly excuses that people from other classess could have come into class and meddled with G's stuff, or it's not fair for them to pay for the damaged items because they were really innocent. Believe me, i really thought I might have wronged them because they had those "It couldn't be me because I'm really innocent" look on their face. Then J knew something but he refused to say anything for fear that it would jeopardise his friendship with the cowardly four boys, instead of having the moral courage to pinpoint his friend. He rather suffered the humiliation of being labelled as another coward then to lose those worthless friendships.

Then it dwelled on me that things were not that simple, but I've already wasted an English period, no more time for me to question them. I'm sure there must be some loopholes somewhere. Maybe it's God's will that they should be punished cos i invigilated that class for common test. After the common test, i decided to hold those four cowards, plus two witnesses back in class. I told them I would want to settle that matter in class, if not, i will leave the matter to the school to investigate. 5 minutes was all it took for them to reveal their true colours. K looked so flustered, M kept looking at K, and D was trying to divert his attention on other things. J still stood by those cowards who would stoop to underhand means to get their revenge and refused to speak the truth. Now W came into the story. He knew something from D but he's another insensible loyal friend. When the whole truth was out, i was disappointed to learn that D was actually the mastermind. And all those things that they had said in class were all NONSENSE. K can still tell me that G better change his bad attitude and they did that because they couldn't stand his attitude. But K's attitude isn't any better too. Who is he to comment on that? really can't believe that they could still lie so blatantly. D had this innocent look and would be attentive in class. To think that he's the mastermind. Never judge a book by its cover, never judge a person by its look too, how very true that is.

All along C was in class with them. Although he did not had a share in throwing the pencil case, he was considered an accomplice as he stayed back in class with them. When I questioned the class about it, he didn't even have the courage to pinpoint his classmates nor speak to me discreetly. Given the above condition, Mr Leng punished him as well. What I'm really angry about was that he complained to his father that i was biased against him and that was the reason he was punished even though he's an accomplice. To think that he has the audacity to complain.

Even in the case of a bank robbery, the person keeping watch for the police is considered guilty as well even though he did not point the gun at the bank teller to empty the cash till into the robber's bag. His father did not even see the point and wish to talk to the Principal about it or even to MOE. To think that the dad would say that we have to be flexible to a 13-year-old as he was really afraid to pinpoint his friends. Not only was he a coward, he's timid as well.

If the school has to be flexible about the school rules, then what are the school rules for? His dad might as well run the school. To think C's Form teacher can tell the dad that he can relate to him and felt the same way that C should not be punished. How come he didn't voice out his opinion to the DM or the P? Isn't this double standards? So now, he's the angel and i'm the devil. The boys should be caned for bullying classmates and they were in cahoots, and the Form teacher actually defended them and asked for 2 weeks DC instead. Canning and 2 weeks DC are vast difference. Does sitting outside the HOD's room for 2 weeks serve any use to them? They will continue to play pranks on their classmates, and the FT will continue to close one eye or maybe even 2 eyes to that.

Can you believe that boys sitting at different corners of the class can all crowd behind the class during his lessons and throw chalks at their classmates? One of the chalks hit G and G told the teacher about it but he didn't scold the boys for it because he didn't see them in actions and not even when the chalks were clearly visible on the floor. What joke! They were a few other incidents as well when he should have done something but he didn't, and his students can tell me "Oh Mr so-and-so don't care wan". So why should the DUMB me bother to do anything when it got me into more shit? Then during one of the recesses, two Sec 3 girls went into his class and ransacked the students' bags and he didn't know anything about it. He was outside the class with G and the girls bypassed him and told him that they were going to help him empty the recycled boxes in his class and he actually believed it? Why would anyone be so nice to empty the recycled bins for you if they don't have a motive?

CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE!!! I can't believe that a teacher can be so heck-care about everything. It's a waste actually. That class is a good class but they didn't have a "not-so-hecked-care" teacher to put anything into place. What he only care was interrupting the rest of the subject teachers' lessons with all the not-so-important issues.

What should i care so much about that class? Why should i bother if they are students with character or integrity or not? Why should i waste my time and fuss over such redundant issue and be labelled "unprofessional teacher" by a "I'll complain to MOE" type of parents the minute they don't see eye-to-eye with you. If not for the case that I've been with them for almost 2 years and that there are really nice students in that class, If not for the case that i do not want those good students to be bullied by those childish over-grown pri 5 students who were still playing with rubber band and paper bullets, If not for the case that i don't want those students to be one of those society's leech, I wouldn't waste my time and be hecked-care too.

IRRITATING BUNCH OF PEOPLE!!!

Too angry to continue typing in case my keyboard gave way to my forceful typing. Need to take a break from cowards and heck-cared people!!!
