Baby Lila Pharis
I feel so blessed to have such a healthy baby girl in my little family. There is something so special about having a little spirit so sweet and precious in my home, I feel as though there is much more reverence in our house. I want to record my delivery experience so that I will be able to remember it the way that it was. I thought a good place would be on my blog where I record most of our family events.
At 38 wks, when I went in for my doctor appointment, my doctor had told me that my baby was in a transverse position, meaning she was sideways, head on one side of my belly and bum on the other, her back curving up under my ribcage. Well, of course I thought this no big deal but then my Doctor preceeds to tell me that if by the next week she hasn't headed down then they would need to turn her externally and then induce me right away to prevet her from flipping again on me.
Sounds fun right?! So I was figured that when this little baby was ready and things got closer then the baby would "drop" and head down to prepare for her birth. I went home feeling fine but then when I started reading up on it I started getting a tad bit of anxiety. It turns out this is a very common experience that women have and most end up being turned and then induced or having to have a c-section. My other births went just fine, I couldn't imagine having to go through all that for number three... anyway, the boys were so sweet to pray that the baby's head would go down in our family prayers and with a blessing and temple attendence, (it was all I could think of to help the situation) after a whole week of stressing out, I went in form my 39 wk appointment. Guess what...HEAD DOWN! Good girl! I didn't know she was a girl at the time but I almost cried with relief.
So I went home not having to be induced and just hoping that she would continue to stay in that position. I then just had to wait for labor to begin on its own. I thought it would be great to have the baby come on April 2nd because that is my half birthday...kind of fun, but the 2nd came and went and nothing was progressing. Then I thought, Okay how about 4/4/11...Kolby's birthday is 11/11/06....4/4 and 11/11 that would be cute...Monday the 4th came and nothing at all...until....
I laid the kids down for their naps at 12:00. I felt pretty tired so I too laid down to take a nap. During my nap I woke up to a very strong Braxton Hicks contraction that lasted longer than usual. I Thought to myself "Hmmm, maybe?" nope, I wasn't going to get my hopes up. So when the kids woke up shortly after we all loaded up and went over to my mom's house. I then had a few more contractions with a tad bit of feeling in them...still I wasn't going to say anything because if I had, I know they would dissappear. Okay by 5:00 that night I told mom I was contracting but it was nothing painful, so she sent me out to the trampoline to jump. Well that is really awkward to do at 39 1/2 wks prego so I gave up. I took the boys out for a walk while they road scooters, I walked the curb (it has never failed me) One foot on one off the curb boncing up and down the sidewalk throughout the neighborhood while the boys scooted along. By the time I got to the corner and back they were serious contractions...Yes! I knew labor had begun, but if I wanted to make it 4/4 I was going to have to push it. So My mom got out her timer, and started timing the contractions. I would tell her when one would start and she would start the time, when I had finished she would say " That's not good enough only 30 seconds." And she would send me down the street again.
I now had no idea what the boys were up to, I was trying to consentrate. That next time I went up the street I could no longer walk through the contractions they were too intense. I called Andrew to let him know what I was doing, he said he had some homework to finish up and then he would be home. I thought that would be just fine. I went inside and sat down to watch a movie with my boys while I contracted, they were coming every minute and lasting a minute, then my mom started to panic. She thought for sure I was going to deliver at her house. But Andrew barely made it home before my mom was going to take me to the hospital herself!! Andrew and I then went to the hospital and every time I contracted I felt soooooo much pressure on my tailbone that it was unbarable to sit through it. The drive to the hospital was terribly uncomfortable. Andrew was trying to stay calm and he was saying...Why didn't you tell me you were having a baby right now!!! Haha, I had to laugh who knew it would go that fast? At the hospital we got ther around 8 i think, I couldn't walk around through my contractions because it was too much pressure on my tailbone, so i did labor on the ball. it was much more comfortable to sit on.
After I got on the bed to be checked I could no longer move the contractios came to often and there was still that horrific pressure. I decided not to get an epidural because I was handling things just fine. I was still calm, it was just intense. Andrew repeatedly told the nurses that I go pretty fast so to stay on gaurd. Well, it was a busy night for the nurses and so they would be in and out. When one would leave that seemed to be when things would happen. The nurse and docter just left and I said andrew I feel that urge... So he immediatly got the nurse back in there. The doctor checked me he said I was dialated to an 8, and then my water broke. He said it was just a little bit of fluid that came out and then he left the room. aT this point I was asking for pain medication because the pressure was unbearable, my nurse said we didn't have time for that...I was thinkig YIKES what have i gotten myself ino. Okay right then I said "I have to push" The nurse caught the door before it had even closed and told the doctor to come back in. He came in and started to get robed and gloves on and I started to push with my contraction, he told me that was okay, but with that push she crowned and while he was still trying to get his robe on he said okay try not to push anymore! YEAH RIGHT! I pushed again and her head was all the way out. The docter quickly ran over just in time for her to flop onto the bed. His fingers were only half way into his gloves and he couldn't use his hands, his robe was falling off of him and all he could do was use his body to barricade the end of the hospital bed to prevent her from falling off. She of course wasn't breathing and the docter couldn't hold the bulb so the nurse suctioned out her nose and mouth and then rubbed her back until we heard her cry! The sweetest little sound. The docter handed the clamps and sissors to Andrew to clamp and cut the cord since the Docter couldn't use his fingers yet...what am I paying him for? They finally put hr onto mt tummy and said its a girl!!
I couldn't believe it! I wanted a girl so bad how is it that is whatwould come to me? Oh and she was so sweet! Her lips were all swollen and stuck out so cute! they took her and measure her and weighed her while i got a few stitches! Over all I was tramatized by the fact that she came so fast and when I was pushing my docter was across the room...I was sad she had to fall onto the bed instead of into sturdy arms so she would know she was safe, but we both made it through healthy and happy. Andrew did great throuh the whole thing keeping me as calm as possible he is so experiencd i think next time when the doctor is paying attention andrew will be ready to catch!
Welcome little Lila you bring us such joy!

What's with us Lately
We spend at least one morning at the library and listen to storytime and do puzzles. Great way to get out of the house and still be able to use our "quiet voices"
March snow. Lovely. It seems to take 20 minutes just to get these guys into this attire but it is so worth it. They have so much fun making their tracks in the snow and of course eating it.
Finally made a snow man this year. Kolby was a big help!! He rolled all the parts and then we assembled him together. Kolby was quite proud of his accomplishment and couldn't sleep because he was worried Frosty would melt that night. Well Frosty made it to the next day but with this being Idaho, all the snow melted that day.

Turkey Fun!
Food crafts are always tricky with the little ones. They can always stuff their mouths much faster than we can decorate a cookie. Jaxon especially was more interested in how these turkeys were going to taste than actually building a turkey.
Kolby and Dad worked very hard on theirs and it turned out quite cute!
The finished products! Happy Turkey Day
Kolby's Birthday 2010
Preparing Kolby's cake was a lot of fun. Jaxon had a great time getting his hands dirty to help out. He is preparing the "dirt" (crumbled chocolate cake) for the construction site.
Blowing out the candles! I think we did that at least four different times. It really is the most exciting part!
We did a giant dirt cup cake, the bed of the truck was filled with chocolate pudding and gummy worms, then topped with the crumbled cake. The best part was I found the sweetest candles at Zurchers. They were construction truck candles. There was a little cement truck, bulldozer, excavator, and dump truck. I was totally stoked for these candles. Anyway, this years cake equaled success! Happy Birthday Kolby!!
